FACT-CHECKING SNOPES: Website’s Political ‘Fact-Checker’ Is Just A Failed Liberal Blogger.

Each of Robert Conquest’s Three Laws of Politics apply here, but particularly his second and third laws:

1. Everyone is conservative about what he knows best.
2. Any organization not explicitly right-wing sooner or later becomes left-wing.
3. The simplest way to explain the behavior of any bureaucratic organization is to assume that it is controlled by a cabal of its enemies.

As for Conquest’s First Law of Politics, Snopes was a left-leaning but useful clearing house for wild urban legends in the early days of the Web, but traded in the good will it built up performing its core job for partisanship and social justice warfare. Which brings us to laws #2 and #3.
