WHICH GROUP OF PROTESTORS IN PORTLAND IS ATTACKING THE POLICE?

This report from CBS News doesn’t say if it’s anti-fa or the white nationalists.

But this Portland Police tweet certainly does.

From the tweet, at 1:19 pm:

Antifa is throwing irritant smoke and projectiles at police.

The tweet identifying the attackers pre-dates the tweets CBS News quoted.

CBS News in Portland needs to explain why this earlier tweet was not in the later story. It is a very fair question. Was the earlier tweet incorrect? Was the CBS editor unaware of the earlier tweet?

PATRIK JONSSON: As hurricane Irma hits Florida, evacuees try to keep ahead of the storm. “We have top-down institutions like FEMA and law enforcement, but then we have bottom-up phenomenon too, like the market and civic engagement, so people can flee feeling secure that they can find a hotel room, that there will be a church that can help, or friends will reach out, even if they’re dealing with survivor’s guilt.”

JIM GERAGHTY ON PARASITIC PROGRESSIVISM AT ESPN, MARVEL, AND THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI:

Notice that the progressive-minded revolutionaries in these three cases did not seek to found their own university in Missouri, their own cable sports network, or their own line of comic books. That would require a great deal of patience and effort and risk of failure. They moved into preexisting, relatively apolitical institutions and steered the ship in a new direction, aligned with their political and social goals.

And then they hit the rocks.

Read the whole thing, which fleshes out (pardon the pun) this classic Iowahawk tweet:

UPDATE: Link was initially broken; should be working now.

TWITCHY: THE CAPTIONS FOR THIS SHOT OF MRS. CLINTON ARE SIMPLY HILLARYOUS!

Based on her collar choice, Hillary is still going for the United Federation of Planets ambassador look, I see. As I predicted in September, “If Hillary loses to Trump in November, her future as a galactic ambassador is assured” – though even the worst Federation ambassadors usually kept a cooler head about them in a crisis.

BRUCE BAWER ON WHITEWASHING ANTIFA IN THE ATLANTIC:

Of course, we’ve heard all this before. In his determination to whitewash Antifa, Friedersdorf is playing the same old rhetorical games that the Western Left employed for decades to defend the Soviet Union and Red China. Yes, Stalin and Mao weren’t perfect; yes, the Gulag and Holomodor and Cultural Revolution were unpleasant; but Communism was still better than Nazism – because its claims for itself sounded so much nicer.

Who but a fool, a knave, or a prisoner of ideology could seriously make such a contention? What ordinary American could possibly be expected to buy it? And why is The Atlantic, a once-distinguished publication founded in 1857 under the editorship of James Russell Lowell, trying to sell it?

Forget it Bruce – it’s Atlantictown.

GERMS: Guinea pigs may harbor a hidden health hazard, researchers say. “The bacteria, Chlamydia caviae (C. caviae), normally causes pink eye in guinea pigs. But three adults in the Netherlands wound up hospitalized for pneumonia after contact with guinea pigs resulted in their infection with C. caviae.”
