WITH DNC IN MIND, CITY BANS CARRYING URINE, FECES: San Francisco dome dining has already returned, with some modifications. “The modifications ended up being quite simple: The bones of the domes are still intact, but the staff cut off the bottom 4 feet of the plastic cover — effectively creating a rounded tent that’s open on the sides. ‘It kind of defeats the main purpose of why we had it up in the beginning but it is doing it some justice. It’s better than nothing,’ said Hashiri manager Kenichiro Matsuura, noting the modified domes don’t adequately block the wind…The restaurant is located on Mint Plaza, a SoMa gathering place with many homeless encampments nearby, and Matsuura said people had stuck their fingers in diners’ meals, spit in their food and defecated next to tables. The structures were a way for the restaurant to control the dining environment.”
