HEH: Everytown’s Sham Gun Training Program Caused a Fight Within in the Org Because It Admits There’s a Place in Society for Gun Ownership. “A revealing article in USA Today last week reported that Everytown for Gun Safety’s new ‘firearms training’ program, Train SMART, ‘met stiff opposition from [Everytown’s] own members and longtime supporters.’ The reason, as the article made clear, is simple. Gun control advocates don’t want ‘harm reduction’ when it comes to gun ownership; they want ‘abstinence.’ In other words, they see Everytown’s firearm safety training as a betrayal, because it tacitly acknowledges there is a place for firearms in America. What Everytown’s supporters want, however, is to put an end to gun ownership, period.”
DISPATCHES FROM THE INTERSECTION OF RADICAL CHIC AND THE EDUCATION APOCALYPSE: The Chicago Teachers Union Is Exactly Who You Thought They Were.
If you spend any time on social media, you have likely heard about the latest outrage from my city’s Cthulhu-like public sector behemoth, the Chicago Teachers Union: On Friday afternoon, to note the death of radical left-wing Sixties terrorist Assata Shakur (born Joanne Chesimard) in Cuba, the CTU’s X account issued the following statement:
Rest in Power, Rest in Peace, Assata Shakur.
Today we honor the life and legacy of a revolutionary fighter, a fierce writer, a revered elder of Black liberation, and a leader of freedom whose spirit continues to live in our struggle.
Assata refused to be silenced. She taught us that “It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love each other and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains.”
Keep in mind, as Noah Rothman eloquently explained yesterday afternoon, that Shakur was a cop-killer who escaped from prison to live the rest of her days in a totalitarian country. My readers tend to be a fairly savvy bunch, so I suspect many of you are asking yourselves why a teachers’ union would have felt the need to celebrate the passing of an infamous American terrorist murderer. (For those wondering — because it occurred to me to check — Shakur was never a teacher herself, unless her job was to instruct people in criminal undertakings.)
But while this question may puzzle out-of-towners, it makes all the sense in the world to us locals. The Chicago Teachers Union is (as I have explained many times in these pages) arguably the single most radical major union in America, a throbbing, graft-bloated parasite attached to Chicago city government the way a tick burrows deep into a pig. And much like a tick, the CTU isn’t content merely to suck money out of the city’s taxpayers. It gives back as well — in the form of Mayor Brandon Johnson, former CTU lobbyist and current laughingstock of America.
Sure, but they’re just crazy radical chic-obsessed Chicago teachers. It’s not like America would ever have a president who palled around the Chicago area with an unrepentant former terrorist who eventually went into education himself…

JAMIE K. WILSON: DEI vs. Story, Part 3: The Market Disconnect.
According to the American Time Use Survey, the share of Americans reading for pleasure has collapsed by about 40% in the past two decades. In 2003, more than a quarter of adults read on a typical day. By 2023, that number was down to 16%.
Even among people who do read, the intensity is falling. Gallup reports that in 2016, the average American read 15.6 books a year. By 2021, that number had dropped to 12.6. The National Endowment for the Arts found that fewer than half of adults read even a single book in 2022 — down from more than half a decade earlier.
And most new releases don’t sell at all. In 2020, a shocking 98% of books published sold fewer than 5,000 copies. Those numbers would be fatal in any other industry.
Meanwhile, revenues keep sliding. Trade book sales were down 7.5% in May 2025 compared to the year before. Publishers Weekly has reported similar drops month after month, with fiction and nonfiction alike shrinking in double digits.
Yet even in this shrinking market, certain books break out. What do they have in common? Not what the industry insists on.
A Part 4 is here.
FINALLY: Biden’s Abusive Anti-Gun Small Arms Export ‘Pause’ Is Now Finally a Thing of the Past.
Remember the 90-day firearms export “pause” that whoever was pulling the levers of power during the Biden presidency put in place in March of 2024? The 90-day pause that was yet another thinly-veiled shot at America’s firearms manufacturers? The 90-day pause that lasted until the decrepit cadaver was finally wheeled out of the White House?
Yeah, well, after a change in management at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and a lot of bureaucratic rearranging of deck chairs, the “pause” is finally history. And now, nine months after the Trump administration began to dismantle the infiltration of the Gun Control Industry into the last administration’s policymaking and its “whole of government” assault on gun rights, that “pause” is now — finally — history.

MAYBE THIS IS HOW AI FINALLY BECOMES PROFITABLE: OpenAI Lets Users Buy Stuff Directly Through ChatGPT.
The San Francisco-based AI company said Monday that U.S.-based ChatGPT users will be able to buy goods from online marketplace Etsy’s domestic sellers, as well as some merchants on Shopify’s e-commerce platform. The service, called Instant Checkout, currently only supports single-item purchases.
OpenAI also unveiled an open-source technical standard for merchants to build integrations with ChatGPT, called Agentic Commerce Protocol, which the company hopes will draw more merchants onto its chatbot platform. The protocol allows merchants to make their products shoppable inside ChatGPT.
Amazon and Walmart, the nation’s two largest digital retailers, aren’t currently using the protocol, OpenAI said.
OpenAI’s announcements come as the company continues expanding the capabilities and reach of its flagship chatbot, which ignited the AI boom in late 2022. Over one in 10 people who use ChatGPT have some intent or interest in making a purchase, said Michelle Fradin, OpenAI’s product lead for commerce in ChatGPT.
That makes ChatGPT an ideal place for users to actually complete their purchases, rather than needing to leave the platform to finish buying something, OpenAI said.

THE NEW SPACE RACE: Firefly Aerospace’s Alpha rocket explodes during preflight test.
We’ll likely have to wait a while to see Firefly Aerospace’s Alpha rocket take to the skies again.
The first stage of the rocket that Firefly was prepping to make Alpha’s seventh-ever flight exploded on Monday (Sept. 29) during a preflight trial.
“During testing at Firefly’s facility in Briggs, Texas, the first stage of Firefly’s Alpha Flight 7 rocket experienced an event that resulted in a loss of the stage,” the Texas-based company wrote in an update on Monday afternoon. “Proper safety protocols were followed, and all personnel are safe. The company is assessing the impact to its stage test stand, and no other facilities were impacted.”
It’s another setback for Firefly, which suffered a failure during its most recent Alpha launch this past April.
Better luck next time, fellas.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK: Without Adams, Should Mamdani Be Worried?
What complicates Cuomo’s path are his own significant weaknesses as a candidate. He is a lackluster campaigner with a thin field operation. The scandals of his administration—nursing home deaths in the pandemic, sexual harassment allegations that drove him from office—are well-remembered. In the primary, he was able to benefit from enormous super PAC spending and the backing of many politicians and labor unions, only to finish a distant second. Though frontrunner Zohran Mamdani has struggled to unify the full Democratic establishment behind him due to his socialist politics, he has far more support than he did in June. Many large labor unions have abandoned Cuomo to coalesce behind him, and enough top Democrats, including Governor Kathy Hochul, have offered endorsements, if Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries have been stubbornly neutral. (Disclosure: In 2018, when I ran for office, Mamdani was my campaign manager.)
What matters more, though, is that Cuomo won’t have such a sizable super PAC behind him and institutional Democrats would rather stay on the sidelines than support him. The city’s wealthiest donors, meanwhile, are mostly keeping their powder dry, waiting to see if Cuomo gains momentum or Mamdani runs away from the rest of the field. There’s also no guarantee all of Adams’ vote heads to Cuomo. There are Adams supporters, Black voters especially, who regularly back Democrats, and could be courted by Mamdani because he is the Democratic nominee. Cuomo, as an independent, is at a significant disadvantage.
Orthodox Jews are another wild card. Adams maintained strong relationships with Orthodox leaders in Brooklyn and Queens. These voters despise Mamdani, who is pro-Palestine, but they are largely wary of Cuomo because he was the governor who imposed Covid lockdowns on their neighborhoods. In the primary, they reluctantly supported him, and they may just prefer Sliwa now, since many do vote Republican in general elections. Certain Hasidic leaders, especially in Williamsburg, may even be open to backing Mamdani, since they are both anti-Zionist and they will want to cultivate ties with a Mamdani City Hall.
What will matter, if Mamdani wins, is what margin he finishes with.
Nah. If Mamdani wins, he’ll attempt to govern as though he won by a supermajority. He has big plans, and intends to deliver them to NYC voters, good and hard.

GOOD-BYE TO THE ABA?: Supreme Court of Texas Likely to Remove ABA as ‘Final Say’ on Accreditation.
That’s great. The ABA has been an absolute horror on diversity issues. If Texas has any viable plan for doing without it, I will support it. But I believe we also need federal legislation. The ABA isn’t the only horrible accreditor out there.
