TIME TO GET READY: Part One: Consequences of America Losing a War to China

In July The National Interest published an essay entitled “Can America Lose to China?” written by Kishore Mahbubani, a fellow at the National University of Singapore’s Asia Research Institute and a former Singapore UN Ambassador.

The essay focuses on the China-U.S. political, economic and social competition. Mahbubani begins with an observation: Americans believe “an open society like America has many natural advantages” over China’s autocracy. By assuming inherent advantage, “Americans cannot even conceive of the possibility of losing out to China.”

That may well be true, though not quite in the way he frames the problem.

More:

It is foolish to believe an intense war involving China and the U.S. would be confined to the Taiwan Strait and end with Taiwan’s loss. In the scenario, missiles hit regional U.S. bases –meaning Japan, South Korea, Guam, perhaps Australia, Singapore and Hawaii.

Go a step farther. What keeps this western Pacific war from escalating to a war for national survival?

Part Two (next week) will examine several very uncomfortable consequences of America losing a war to China. Stay tuned.

ANALYSIS: TRUE. Desperate Democrats Aren’t Making Sausage, They’re Dropping Live Pigs Into a Woodchipper. “While Biden needs to get something, anything passed to try and prevent becoming the nation’s only first-term lame duck, the most radical House members of his own party have taken an all-or-nothing approach. It’s even funnier on the Senate side, where the Wall Street Journal reports the Democrats are scrambling to raise taxes without raising taxes to pay for a bill that Democrats also say costs nothing.

TO BE FAIR, I DON’T THINK BIDEN SEES HIS AFTERNOON PUDDING CUP COMING EITHER:

VA GOV CANDIDATE TERRY MCAULIFFE GETS CAUGHT LYING ABOUT CHILD COVID HOSPITALIZATIONS:

The Virginia gubernatorial race between Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe and GOP challenger Glenn Youngkin is heating up. Polls show the two closely matched just days before the November 2 election. They’re pulling out all the stops—but for McAuliffe, that apparently means lying about the risks COVID is imposing on children in Virginia.

And very likely lying about other things as well:

Exit question: “Clayton Bigsby, is that you?

MUST-SEE: Here’s an impassioned speech in defense of the fossil fuel execs who testified before Congress.

As Twitchy reported, the House Oversight Committee held a hearing Thursday on the fossil fuel industry and climate change, bringing in executives from Exxon Mobil, BP America, Chevron, and Shell Oil. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said that whole regions of the U.S. will be unlivable by 2038 (“Some of us have to actually live the future that you are all setting on fire for us.”) and Rep. Cori Bush accused the executives of environmental racism and suggested they all resign “given each of your roles in these attacks on our humanity.”

For a palate cleanser, here’s Florida Rep. Byron Donalds, who suggested the fossil fuel execs deserved an apology and that Attorney Merrick Garland should look into the intimidation tactics his colleagues were using on those who heat our homes and fuel our cars.

Seriously, give this a listen:
