BEIJING IS PARTYING LIKE IT’S 1939: China’s Xinjiang Crackdown Reaps Millions of Dollars in Assets for the State.

Chinese authorities have seized and sold at auction tens of millions of dollars in assets owned by jailed Uyghur business owners amid a broad government campaign to assimilate ethnic minorities in the country’s northwest Xinjiang region.

Since 2019, Xinjiang courts have put at least 150 assets—ranging from home appliances to real estate and company shares—belonging to at least 21 people and valued at a total $84.8 million up for auction on e-commerce sites.

The listings were compiled by the Uyghur Human Rights Project, an advocacy group partially funded by the U.S. government, and were corroborated by The Wall Street Journal, which reviewed court documents and corporate records. The Xinjiang government didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Since 2005, I have been studying how the National Socialist regime systematically destroyed and looted businesses owned by Jews in Berlin, as well as the ways that Jews responded to this persecution. Despite the enormous concentration of “Jewish businesses” in Berlin, no comprehensive study on the topic existed before my team and I published our study in 2012. In particular, the small- and medium-sized companies that formed the backbone of Jewish commercial life had been neglected in the research.

I wonder if Xi ever asks, “Are we the baddies?”

SHOCK VIDEOS: What’s happening to Australia?

The Aussie government insisted afterward that the rioters were the aggressors, even scolding them for urinating on Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance. Is that the truth or just part of the state’s PR effort to keep the balance of popular opinion on the side of lockdowns by demonizing those who resist them?

The most disturbing video circulating today has no violence in it. It’s this scene of police officers in another part of the country interrogating a man in the interest of “public safety” about whether he knows of any protests coming up. I can’t tell if that’s because they’re worried about a riot in their jurisdiction too or if they’re really willing to go this far to prevent people from congregating in public for fear that they’ll spread the virus. Australia has lost very few people to COVID thanks to their lockdown strategy, but they’ve lost other important things in the process.

All the more reason in America to: Thank God for Rednecks.Who else could keep us from turning into Australia?

As bad as things are getting here in the States, we can’t fathom how much worse things would be without these down-home heroes. Sure, they might carry their paranoid anti-government theories a little too far. But their paranoia is far from unfounded, and even if they sometimes over-react, they keep America from falling into the opposite extreme: creeping tyranny, Aussie style. You can’t boil a frogs if he flips out every time you reach for the knob.

Like them, I’d prefer the burdens of liberty to a warm, sterile despotism. And that seems like an old-fashioned, all-American instinct to me. I can’t see Davey Crockett “sheltering in place” because the Department of Public Health asked him to. I can’t see Teddy Roosevelt triple-masking. I can’t see Johnny Cash stanning Dr. Fauci.

So, my apologies to those anti-maskers in Virginia. I rushed to judge you last summer, and that was wrong.  May you continue to resist any whiff of conformism with righteous fury. May you give no quarter to the elite “consensus” of elite “institutions.” And may you never stop being pissed off. It just might save this republic.

Except for certain quarters: College campuses are becoming insane COVID-19 security dystopias.

But then, as Iowahawk said, long before “COVID-19” became a universally known phrase:

OPEN THREAD: They told me to shovel more coal in the boiler, but that don’t do no good. I need your love to keep away the cold.

CLAIMS ABOUT AN INSURRECTION CONTINUE TO EVAPORATE: “But statements from the informant appear to counter the government’s assertion that the Proud Boys organized for an offensive assault on the Capitol intended to stop the peaceful transition from Mr. Trump to Mr. Biden.” “On the eve of the attack, the records show, the informant said that the group had no plans to engage in violence the next day except to defend itself from potential assaults from leftist activists…. Then, during an interview in April, the informant again told his handlers that Proud Boys leaders gave explicit orders to maintain a defensive posture on Jan. 6. At another point in the interview, he said that he never heard any discussion that day about stopping the Electoral College process…. According to the records, the informant first began to tell the F.B.I. what he knew about Jan. 6 in late December after a pro-Trump rally in Washington that month turned violent…. [T]he records contain no indication that the informant was aware of a possible plot by Proud Boys leaders to purposefully instigate those normal Trump supporters — or what members of the group refer to as ‘normies’— on Jan. 6.”

Plus: “My hypothesis has been that if there had been a plan, the FBI would have known about it and it would have been defended against. If the government has evidence of a plan now, my question is why didn’t they know in advance and defend the Capitol properly? The simplest answer is that there was no plan.”

And, from the comments: “The narrative being fed to us is that the FBI had an insider of a far-right group feeding information to the FBI but given the repeated lies fed to us by the FBI and federal officials it seems more likely the FBI had people undercover inciting a protest group to riot.”

ANALYSIS: TRUE.

FOLLOW THE SCIENCE: CDC Overrules Own Advisors on Pfizer Booster for High-Risk Workers. “In a rare move, CDC overruled the recommendations of the agency’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) regarding who should get a booster of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine (Comirnaty). In a statement released early Friday, the agency said those at high risk of occupational exposure, such as healthcare workers, may receive the Pfizer booster shot at least 6 months after the two-dose primary series, based on their individual benefits and risks. On Thursday, the ACIP voted 6-9 against recommending a booster in this population.”
