THERE’S STUPID LEFT, AND THEN THERE’S THIS: Our social betters in Arlington are promoting “People Before Cars” and I’m starting to think they don’t know how cars work.
To quote Mister Obama’s favorite opening: Let me be perfectly clear, flatworms are smarter than this. There are types of rock that are smarter than this. When I was a kid in Portugal it took two to three hours, on a good day, on a bus, to make it to the beach. Now when we visit, we often go for a walk on the beach after dinner, which depending where we aim is either ten or fifteen minutes away by highway. Which didn’t exist at that time. Nor could our family afford a car.
I really don’t give a hangnail… No, wait. I don’t give one of Obama’s hangnails what the greenies have to say about cars and how eeeevil they are. Cars are freedom, connection and the ability for normal people to reach into the unknown. Which is actually why these evil people hate them. They couldn’t care less about the environment. They want their serfs limited and powerless.
It’s time to show them what we think of them by pointing, laughing and disobeying. Pretend it’s the fourth of July and fireworks are banned. Now apply that principle to everything they tell us to do or not to do. We go!

WE ARE SO OUTRAGEOUSLY LUCKY: It is not that many generations ago that Americans had to use corn cobs, leaves, wood shavings, snow or other ghastly things, instead of modern toilet paper, to take care of business. Toilet paper is said to have originated in China, perhaps as late as the sixth century, but … well .. it wasn’t exactly the stuff we know today. Here in America, Joseph Gayetty is credited with creating the first commercial toilet paper in 1857. Still, it wasn’t until the 1930s (in the lifetime of my parents) that “splinter free” toilet paper came available. Cogitate on that the next time you’re feeling sorry for yourself.

The truth is, the Democrats were caught with their pants down in 2016, immediately vowed to never let it happen again, and then set about their four-year task of battlespace preparation. You can read all about how they did it in this by now-notorious piece in Time Magazine, which includes the following victory lap:
“There was a conspiracy unfolding behind the scenes… They got states to change voting systems and laws and helped secure hundreds of millions in public and private funding. They fended off voter-suppression lawsuits, recruited armies of poll workers and got millions of people to vote by mail for the first time. They successfully pressured social media companies to take a harder line against disinformation and used data-driven strategies to fight viral smears.”
All the supererogatory Trump rallies in the world couldn’t compete with that. Because while the president was jibing at the media and Joe Biden’s pathetic and infrequent public appearances, the real action was taking place at the state level, right under the Republican Party’s noses, and the principal battlefield was the media environment.
The corporate media has been drifting left for decades, self-selecting in its hires for progressive radicalism: overly credentialed, poorly educated, and rabidly partisan young reporters who weren’t smart enough to get into law school, but wanted to change the world anyway. Traditional notions of objectivity and even-handedness had been vanishing for years but in 2016, the New York Times abandoned all pretense to fairness and issued a call to arms:
“If you view a Trump presidency as something that’s potentially dangerous, then your reporting is going to reflect that,” wrote Jim Rutenberg in August 2016. “You would move closer than you’ve ever been to being oppositional… Do normal standards apply? And if they don’t, what should take their place?”
Once absolved by the Mother Church of Progressivism (and now Wokism), “journalists” everywhere went to work on Trump with a pair of pliers and a blowtorch. Although they failed to swing the election that year, their opposition only intensified during the “resistance” as they unabashedly allied themselves with the Democrat Party and gleefully functioned as anti-Trump propaganda outlets 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
And that’s where the battle was lost. Enough suburban white wine moms were trained to recoil at Trump’s “mean tweets” and to gravitate toward a clearly senescent Biden in the name of civility.
Which civility never appeared.

Disproportionate force is how you end wars for good. If Israel had used disproportionate force, this would be over.

HMM: Newsom and the Calif Dems may have outsmarted themselves by pushing up the recall election from November to September 14. “The voting will be done completely by mail, which allows ballot harvesting (legal in California) and that may do the trick for Newsom, especially if union members (unions run the state government for their own benefit knock on enough doors and collect enough ballots.) But the ballots will be mailed out in mid-August, a time when many people are away from home and are not focused on politics. JONATHAN TURLEY: New Emails Raise New Allegations of Influence Peddling By Hunter Biden And Direct Knowledge Of President Biden.
As in the past, Americans interested in such stories have had to rely on the foreign press or a couple domestic sites for such information.
The new emails include references to the use of Air Force II by Hunter Biden to pursue the deals — a similar pattern revealed with regard to the China dealings. The emails detail a number of visits to Mexico, including a February 2016 flight on Air Force II with his father. On the plane was his business partner Jeff Cooper, who ran Illinois-based SimmonsCooper. That is one of the largest asbestos litigation firms in the country and Hunter was given 3 percent of Cooper’s venture capital firm Eudora Global, according to emails. President Biden’s brother (who featured in past controversial deals) was also reportedly involved in some of these efforts.
These dealings continued into 2018 as Hunter pushed for deals with Slim. One text message from July 24, 2018 reads “Spoke to my dad about ‘Slim ask” and Cooper responds “Oh that sounds SO F’ING GOOD.”
