ESTABLISHING A NORM: 20 States Now Have Constitutional Carry. “The number of states joining those with constitutional carry has grown quickly in 2021. On Feb. 18 Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte signed House Bill 102 into law, allowing constitutional carry for state residents. Iowa became the 19th state to enroll on April 2. The measures become effective June 1 and July 1, respectively. The other 17 states with constitutional carry laws are Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah (effective May 5), Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming. The merits of similar or nearly identical measures are currently being considered by a number of other state legislatures.”

PORKULUS II: THE REVENGE. Biden Aides Talking With GOP Senators About Infrastructure Bill. “Dollar-wise, the two sides probably aren’t very far apart. There has been talk about funding an infrastructure bill since the Obama administration. But Biden’s $1.8 trillion monstrosity has little to do with ‘infrastructure.’”

JIM TREACHER: WaPo Shuts Down Presidential Fact-Checking Database Because Biden Is Just Too Honest.
One hundred days into the Biden administration, The Washington Post is calling a lid on the presidential fact-checking database.
Glenn Kessler, editor and chief writer of the Fact Checker, tweeted late Monday that the team would continue to fact-check President Biden “rigorously” but would no longer maintain the database started under former President Trump…
The Post reported that Mr. Biden had 67 “false or misleading statements” in his first 100 days versus 511 for Mr. Trump, although the former Delaware senator makes far fewer public appearances and pronouncements than did his Republican predecessor.

DISPATCHES FROM THE HOUSE OF STEPHANOPOULOS: ABC wonders: Why haven’t we seen a dramatic drop in COVID-19 cases yet? Update: What about deaths?
This is utter nonsense. It’s true that the seven-day average sits at just over 55,000 cases a day. It’s also true that it peaked at 247,000+ cases per day as the vaccination campaign began. The CDC charts this on an ongoing basis, and it’s tough to look at this chart and not see a “dramatically” decreased daily case load:
THE DEEP STATE STRIKES BACK: Rudy Giuliani’s Manhattan Apartment Raided in Federal Investigation. “Giuliani, former President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, is the subject of a probe related to his activities in Ukraine during the 2020 election cycle.”

REALLY, NEITHER DOES ANYONE ELSE: Vaccinated Americans don’t need to wear masks in small outdoor gatherings, CDC says. Follow the science, guys!
A CONSERVATIVE IS A LIBERAL WHO’S BEEN MUGGED BY REALITY: People in Brooklyn Center feel differently about riots and looting than people in DC. “The respondents closest to the “unrest” aren’t very tolerant of the idea that riots and looting are acceptable forms of protest. In fact, they suggest the people who are doing those things are outside agitators and opportunists. Meanwhile, the folks who answered in DC repeatedly defend rioting as the last means of expressions for groups trying to make a point.”
UPDATE (FROM GLENN): And note this bit:
The subtext here is that most of the respondents in Brooklyn Center, the ones who aren’t rioting fans, are black. “When something like this goes on the opportunistic people come out and they try to dehumanize this,” a man wearing a “veteran” cap said.
Meanwhile, most of the respondents in DC, the ones defending riots, are white women.
Is anyone really surprised by this?

REVIVING OBAMA’S IRAN “NUCLEAR DEAL” MEANS WAR, NOT PEACE: But Slow Joe seems Hell bent on reviving Obama’s so-called Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA).
Incorporating “comprehensive” in the JCPOA’s name was reprehensibly dishonest, for the Obama deal was not comprehensive. Follow the JCPOA’s timeline and you discover the Obama administration gave Tehran’s bad guys billions in cash before they officially agreed to the slimy deal.
The ayatollahs used Obama’s payoff cash to wage war in Yemen and Syria.
In May 2018, I wrote that the JCPOA failed to penalize the Iranian regime’s violent troublemaking and its criminal operations, a grievous flaw. I wrote that column a week after Israel released an information trove documenting the regime’s failure to comply with key JCPOA nuclear weapons development provisions.
The economic sanctions imposed by the Trump administration frustrated Iran’s ability to finance war and terror. Trump’s withdrawal from the JCPOA was the predicate action that made the Abraham Accords possible — Nobel Prize-worthy peace treaties between Israel and the UAE and other Arab states.

STRATEGYTALK: Warships With Problems. It seems a lot of new warships have problems, including design, mechanical and crew training issues. In this latest StrategyTalk podcast StrateyPage editor James F. Dunnigan and associate editor Dr. A. A. (Al) Nofi discuss the problems many countries are having with their new warships. They also mention some successes. Dr. Nofi is one of America’s top naval historians. He also worked for several years as the Center for Naval Analyses. The link goes to the youtube version. StrategyPage’s archives are packed with updates on navies and warships from around the world. One of the U.S. Navy’s most troubled warships is the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS). Understand the USN deploy two different variants (types) of Littoral Combat Ships. Here’s a photo of the USS Fort Worth, a Freedom-variant. Note the ship has a standard monohull. This next photo shows the USS Gabrielle Giffords, an Independence-variant LCS. This type has a trimaran hull.
