PETE BUTTIGIEG: ABORTION EXTREMIST.

[Meghan] McCain: So if a woman wanted to invoke infanticide after a baby is born, you’d be comfortable with that?

Buttigieg: Does anybody seriously think that’s what these cases are about? If this is a late-term situation, then by definition it’s one where a woman was expecting to carry the pregnancy to term. Then she gets the most perhaps devastating news of her life. We’re talking about families that may have picked out a name, may be assembling a crib, and they learn something excruciating and are faced with this terrible choice. And I don’t know what to tell them morally about what they should do. I just know that I trust that her decision isn’t going to be any better, medically or morally . . . because the government is telling her to do it a certain way.

Somebody’s prepping for a run at the Virginia governorship if the presidential election doesn’t work out.

WHERE’S JOE? His campaign on the line, Joe Biden goes missing in New Hampshire.

Outside the castle-themed Radisson Hotel where Joe Biden has been staying, his campaign bus was parked and ready for events.

But on Thursday, just five days before the crucial primary here, the candidate was nowhere to be found.

Biden spent Thursday gathered with his top advisers at his home in Wilmington, Del., seeking a reset and perhaps a last-ditch effort to save his candidacy, beginning with a debate Friday night. He held no public events.

Following dismal results in the Iowa caucuses that have rattled many in his orbit, his campaign is now simultaneously trying to lower expectations here — with some suggesting they would consider a finish as low as third place a victory — while also bracing for a second straight difficult Election Day.

His campaign isn’t dead; it’s just resting.

JONATHAN TURLEY: Nancy Pelosi should resign.

What followed was an utter disgrace. First, Pelosi dropped the traditional greeting before the start of the address, “Members of Congress, I have the high privilege and distinct honor of presenting to you the president of the United States.” Instead, she simply announced, “Members of Congress, the president of the United States.” It was extremely petty and profoundly inappropriate. Putting aside the fact that this is not her tradition, but that of the House, it is no excuse to note that the president was impeached.

Such an indignity was not imposed on President Clinton during his own impeachment proceeding, and anyone respecting due process would note that Trump has been accused, not convicted, at this point in the constitutional process. Pelosi proceeded to repeatedly shake her head, mouth words to others, and visibly disagree with the address. It was like some distempered distracting performance art behind the president.

Pelosi, like her predecessors, is supposed to remain stone faced during the address even if the president leaves her personally enraged. Indeed, House speakers have been the authority who kept other members in silent deference and respect, if not to the president, then to the office. However, Pelosi appeared to goad the mob, like a high schooler making mad little faces behind the school principal at an assembly. It worked as members protested and interrupted Trump. Pelosi became another Democratic leader, little more than a twitching embodiment of this age of rage.

What a nasty woman, if you’ll allow me to borrow a famous phrase.

WHAT IS CONSISTENT ABOUT MITT ROMNEY? “Once the subject turns to politics, law, and morality, the things Romney says and his actions don’t quite match, or his reasoning doesn’t cohere. Unable to understand him, I’ve found him impossible to believe. And on two subjects in particular it has been impossible to reconcile his words and actions: abortion and Donald Trump. Exploring the first can help us illuminate his approach to the latter.”

If you understand Romney as a man who doesn’t want to receive dirty looks from the women at his country club, he’s entirely consistent.

RIPPLES: Wine and Seafood Pile Up as China Virus Ripples Reach Chile. “Chinese purchases of Chilean food items have slumped 50% to 60% since the outbreak of coronavirus, according to government export promotion agency, ProChile. Cherries, wine and seafood are among the most affected items. About a third of all Chilean exports go to China.”

IF THE GOP DOESN’T FOLLOW THE DEMOCRATS WHEN THEY MOVE LEFT, THAT’S “EXTREMISM.” DUH.

KILLING THE GOLDEN GOOSE: Northern Virginia has been mopping the floor with DC’s Maryland suburbs, because Virginia’s business climate is so much more favorable. The new Democratic majority in the state legislature, however, seems determined to reverse that, starting with a new, radical antidiscrimination law.
