BIDEN HAD BEEN COUNTING ON UNION SUPPORT TO HELP WIN NEVADA: Powerhouse Nevada Union Won’t Endorse a Democratic Candidate.
The union has 60,000 members in Las Vegas and Reno, more than half of whom are Latino. In 2016, 84,000 people participated in the Democratic caucus statewide, meaning that a successful effort by the union to convince its members to caucus for its chosen candidate could have a significant impact on the results of this year’s caucus.
A key issue for the union is its Culinary Health Fund, which provides benefits to more than 130,000 people including its members and their dependents. The union is fiercely protective of the program and has warned members that Medicare for All plans like the one supported by Sanders would eliminate that benefit.
They can’t say this, but also they’re probably enjoying Trump’s blue-collar boom.

TURNING VIRGINIA INTO CALIFORNIA, PART II: At Bacon’s Rebellion, Hans Bader points out that the Old Dominion has passed the most extreme anti-discrimination statute in the South (the bill simply awaits reconciliation between the House and Senate versions):
For example, the Virginia Values Act contains no protections against groundless or unreasonable lawsuits: It doesn’t allow employers to obtain their attorneys fees when such lawsuits are brought to shake down an employer over a meritless claim…Another flaw of the Virginia Values Act is that it provides for unlimited punitive damages, “without limitation otherwise imposed by law.” This is troubling, because punitive damages are often imposed in a random, unpredictable, and arbitrary way, and limitations imposed by law are appropriate to constrain such abuses and provide greater consistency.
Virginia is fast becoming a very bad place to do business. When Northern Virginia turned blue, it turned deep blue. It is dragging the rest of the state with it to the depths.

Senate Bill 20-083 by Sen. Julie Gonzales, D-Denver and Rep. Leslie Herod, D-Denver purports to immunize anyone “present at a courthouse or on its environs from civil arrest,” and gives judges the authority to issue a “writ of protection” that would, among other scenarios, prohibit Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests of illegal aliens.
The bill also creates a cause of action in civil court for false imprisonment that allows damages and authorizes any person so arrested or detained to “seek a writ of habeas corpus” that requires the arresting official to appear before a judge to justify the arrest.
The state Attorney General is authorized to “bring a civil action on behalf of the people of the state” as well.
If they were working on our behalf, they wouldn’t be pushing this bill.
TURNING VIRGINIA INTO CALIFORNIA, PART I: For a purple state, Virginia is sure turning blue real quick, thanks to an almost complete lack of public scrutiny about the revolution going on in Richmond. Here’s Vincent Vernuccio warning that the failure of the effort to repeal right-to-work is obscuring the effort to unionize government workers. A pretty extreme bill passed the House last week while a vaguer version passed the Senate this week. Bad things are afoot in the Old Dominion.
HAS AMERICA REALLY COME TO THIS? From Issues & Insights this morning comes a frank description that fits far too many of our fellow citizens:
“At one time Americans cherished freedom. While some still do, it’s obvious a large portion of the population prefers comfort provided by others, don’t want to hear ideas and opinions they don’t agree with, and are happy to see the liberty of others restricted, and even eliminated, if those restrictions are holding back freedoms they don’t care about, such as the right to bear arms.”
Quite a pickle we’ve gotten ourselves into, folks. But, as I & I points out, there is yet hope.

Given my life expectancy and zero percent interest, I want one of those. Too bad they don’t make them.
But she outdid herself when reporting from outside a polling station in New Hampshire when he spotted a man she thought was a Bernie supporter.

IT’S MOSTLY JUST A CASE OF THE MASKS COMING OFF: A Bernie Sanders win spells the end of America’s center-left, which is already a global trend.
Sound familiar? Sanders bears the closest resemblance to his equally aged and disheveled ideological cousin from the United Kingdom — Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
Corbyn crashed the gates of the Labour party as, essentially, an outsider. He rose on the strength of a left-wing grassroots movement and won Labor’s leadership contest in 2015 thanks to newcomers who could vote in such a contest for the first time. An unlikely icon for younger voters, he drew enormous crowds and, unavoidably himself, had a distinctive charm for his supporters.
He also, like Sanders, had a history of sympathy for left-wing thugs, a bitter hostility to Western power, a motley collection of kooky allies and an utterly fantastical domestic program.
So pretty much like the lower-key leftists he replaced, just not as well hidden.
OH, PLEASE: Liberal Media Scream: Morning Joe show says Trump ‘is now us.’ Oh, the horrors. Trump just does to Democrats what Democrats have been doing to Republicans for decades. Hence the squealing.
