THIS IS A REAL QUESTION ON QUORA:
WHY IS DENMARK DOING SO WELL, ASKS NICK KRISTOF. IT’S A MYSTERY.
For all of Denmark’s successes, its model faces challenges. A central one is that the Danish system emerged from a homogeneous society with strong social trust, and some experts wonder whether Denmark can indefinitely sustain its high-wage, high-productivity economy as less-skilled immigrants stream in from poorer countries. Denmark compiled a heroic record resisting the Nazis to save most of its Jewish population in World War II, so it surprised me to encounter strong anti-immigrant feelings, even xenophobia.
We may never know the secret of its cultural cohesion and willingness to sacrifice for fellow citizens. But we can surely achieve the same if we just empower more bureaucrats.
NEWS FROM MY NECK OF THE WOODS: Coronavirus in Tennessee: 47 active Knox County cases, 278 total. “The Knox County Health Department reported six new cases on Saturday, bringing the total case number to 278. Knox County reported 47 active cases on Saturday, down from 55 on Friday. The total number of recovered cases moved to 226. . . . There are three patients currently hospitalized due to COVID-19. Of the 278 cases, 36 of them have resulted in hospitalization at any point during the illness.” We began our reopening on Friday, May 1, so this is about the earliest any additional cases from that might start showing up, though it’ll be about a week before we can tell what impact, if any, that’s had.
A SATURDAY MEDITATION ON ‘AMAZING GRACE:’ Ironic, perhaps, that one of the best-known versions of the classic hymn was done by a radical lefty from the 1960s. If you are of a certain age, you will instantly recognize the artist. And feel free to laugh at the hair and sideburns from 1978 because that’s how we all looked in those days.
UPDATE: Thanks to all who posted other versions of the hymn in the comments. You’ve made my Saturday.
THE ‘DIRTY DOZEN’ FACTS THAT KILLED MUELLER’S CASE AGAINST FLYNN; John Solomon lays it all out in fascinating detail. I’ve been honored to know and work with Solomon and several of his sidekicks in this endeavor over the years, including Sara Carter, Byron York and Mollie Hemingway. Real journalism will survive in America because of journalists like these four.

IF ENOUGH OLD PEOPLE IN NEW YORK’S NURSING HOMES DIE, THE HOUSE OF STEPHANOPOULOS WILL HELP PIMP YOUR SWAG. “It sure is good to be a politician of the media’s preferred party:”
Earlier:
Personally, I like to wear some sweet Andrew Cuomo togs while coloring this:
“His politics might be moderate, but his appeal is extreme in Jason Millet’s Joe Biden coloring book for adults, Hot Cup of Joe.”
Narrator voice: given his support of AOC’s Green Nude Eel, California’s job-killing #AB-5 law, and his praise for Communist China, Biden’s politics in 2020 are far from moderate:
GOV. ABBOTT ISSUES ORDER AFTER TWO LAREDO, TX WOMEN ARRESTED FOR HOME BEAUTY SERVICES AMID PANDEMIC: “Though Castro-Garcia and Mata both faced a punishment of up to 180 days in jail for their violations, both were released on bond shortly after their arrest. ‘It may also ensure that other Texans like Ana Isabel Castro-Garcia and Brenda Stephanie Mata who were arrested in Laredo, should not be subject to confinement. As some county judges advocate for releasing hardened criminals from jail to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it is absurd to have these business owners take their place.’”
