THESE ARE THE POLICIES OF A LUNATIC FRINGE: Basically nobody supports cutting funding for police. Just 16% of Democrats, 15% of Republicans, and 17% of Independents support funding cuts.

This is no doubt why people are rushing forward to tell us that “defunding” doesn’t mean funding cuts, and “abolishing the police” doesn’t mean getting rid of the police.

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEF: Let Liberal Hellholes Defund Their Police and Burn. “I’ve been watching some friends I’ve known for years opine on social media about their full-throated support for all that’s going on and, I have to admit, it mystifies me. Most of my liberal friends are comedians and are near my age. They’re old school Democrats and I truly believe that they don’t quite understand that their party has been taken over by what used to be its lunatic fringe.”

WANT TO DEFUND THE COPS? MEET MEXICO’S AUTODEFENSAS: Only here in the states, they would be leftwing ideologues wielding the weapons rather than the drug cartels’ enforcers.

PAUL BEDARD: Two polls show Trump approval holding steady, but not CNN’s survey. ““During this almost exact moment at the end of Barack Obama’s first term, his job approval numbers were very similar.” Which is amazing given how the press was fluffing Obama daily, just as it’s constantly slamming Trump.

SURE: National security law for Hong Kong to boost ‘one country, two systems’ and ensure freedoms beyond 2047: top official in most candid comments yet from Beijing.

Contrary to alarmist warnings of the opposition and foreign powers eager to demonise the central government, the new legislation would target “very few” people committing the four crimes of secession, subversion, terrorism and foreign intervention, said Zhang Xiaoming, deputy director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office (HKMAO).

The vast majority of Hong Kong people, meanwhile, would have peace and order restored in the city, and their rights and freedoms better protected from negative elements, such as those behind violent protests, those demanding independence and others who colluded with foreign powers.

In dealing with such “destructive forces”, Zhang said, the new law was enlarging the space for the one country, two systems principle and this in turn would ensure the country’s leadership would support it being continued beyond 2047, when the model was due to expire.

These uncontested claims are courtesy of the once-independent South China Morning Post, which has taken more and more of a pro-Beijing line in the last year or two.

Anyway, don’t trust China. China is asshole.

WELL, OKAY THEN: We’re told not to take “defund the police” and “abolish the police” literally. “Why not use words that people can understand and that convey the meaning you want to put in our head? If your idea is so reasonable, why not use words that are effective in making people who care about peace and harmony agree with you?”

Depends on what you’re actually trying to accomplish.

“DO THE MATH … OR NOT”:  The dumbing down of college education is a frightening thing.  When University of North Carolina students failed at math and statistics at alarming rates, the administration “solved” the problem … by creating alternate “pathways” to success that are more “applicable and equitable.”  Beat your head against the wall, America.  We’re failing.

EXODUS OF US FIRMS FROM CHINA HAS BEGUN: The Epoch Times’ Emel Akan reports a strong upswing in requests for supply chain inspections from U.S. manufacturing firms with facilities in Vietnam, Burma (aka Myanmar) and the Philippines. Meanwhile, requests from China are down significantly, though the impact of the CCP Virus is a major factor.

THIS SEEMS TO BE A CONSISTENT 2020 THEME: Public Health Experts are Embarrassing Themselves:

In short, the situation we are faced with is that large pubic rallies will almost certainly kill and injure many Americans through Covid spread, and we don’t have the slightest non-speculative idea as to whether the protests will have a positive effect on public health, much less whether any such positive effects will outweigh the health harms from virus spread.

To the extent public health experts claim to be relying on their expertise, rather than faith as political activists or fortune-tellers, there is only one plausible “public health” answer to having large, public protests: based on what we can actually measure and predict, they are a significant net threat to public health.
