THIS WILL PLAY WELL: Oregon Gov. Decrees Residents in Closed Counties Cannot Shop in Open Counties.
THE IRONY OF GLENN GREENWALD CRITICIZING OTHERS FOR NOT BEING FAIR AND OPEN-MINDED: I’ll give this much to Glenn Greenwald: he’s smart, and doesn’t desire to play the role of Democratic Party apparatchik. That, and his far-left outlook, makes him a useful source of criticism for those who are apparatchiks. But when, as in Glenn’s link below, he accuses other journalists of not being fair and open-minded? Well, that’s just a lack of self-awareness. Here he is arguing that pro-Israel sentiment in the U.S. is at least as bad for freedom of speech as Islamist terrorists murdering cartoonists. And I discussed here an occasion when he made ridiculous allegations of racism against John McCain. And here are a couple of other occasions in which I called out Greenwald for rather blatant disregard for the truth. Greenwald is all moral outrage, all the time, and attacks anyone who doesn’t share his idiosyncratic priorities, a group that includes mainstream Democrats. Caveat emptor.

WHAT, ME HELP? AOC Discovers America. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s suggests Americans choose a “different path” and try something unprecedented during a disaster: voluntarily helping their neighbors. As usual, her ignorance is appalling, but to be fair, helping someone else is probably unprecedented for her and her comrades.

KAREN HAS SPOKEN: Oregon Gov. Decrees Residents in Closed Counties Cannot Shop in Open Counties. “As we approach the tail end of the pandemic, and as Oregon has consistently ranked in the bottom five states in terms of infections and deaths, [the] scattershot approach [of Gov. Kate Brown (D)] to the virus has raised more questions than answers.”
NOT JUST NO, HELL NO: Some law professors think that administrative agencies should be encouraged to play a greater role in developing American constitutional law. I discuss the role agencies have played, more or less under the radar, and why giving them even more of a role is a bad idea, in this article.
HOW TO FILL THE SEATS AGAIN: Ticket to Cancel. To lure their customers back, airlines and theaters and arenas need to offer fully refundable tickets.
DON SURBER: Cavuto takes the vapors. I remain amazed at the complete abandonment of reason on the subject of hydroxychloroquine. It either works or it doesn’t. There’s decent evidence that it works with zinc, and that it doesn’t work very well without zinc. It could still turn out not to be very helpful, though if I were Trump I’d be taking it too after exposure. But pretending that it’s somehow highly dangerous when it’s been routinely taken by millions for longer than I’ve been alive is outright crazy. I swear if Trump endorsed Vitamin D, half the country — and 90% of the press — would be wearing burkas over 100X sunblock.

WHEN HE’S RIGHT, HE’S RIGHT. Ben Smith’s NYT Critique of Ronan Farrow Describes a Toxic, Corrosive, and Still-Vibrant Trump-Era Pathology: “Resistance Journalism.” “Journalists are now not only free, but encouraged and incentivized, to say or publish anything they want, no matter how reckless and fact-free, provided their target is someone sufficiently disliked in mainstream liberal media venues and/or on social media.”

DECOUPLING: Apple to Make New Headphones in Vietnam in Shift From China. “Apple has tapped factories in Vietnam to make its own forthcoming over-ear headphones, a new phase in its effort to diversify manufacturing away from China amid political and trade tensions between Washington and Beijing, The Information has learned. The move would be the first time Apple has used factories in Vietnam to produce an entirely new product, instead of relying on them to supplement manufacturing of an older model already produced in China.”

OCEANIA HAS NEVER BEEN AT WAR WITH EASTASIA: Ben Smith’s NYT Critique of Ronan Farrow Describes a Toxic, Corrosive, and Still-Vibrant Trump-Era Pathology: “Resistance Journalism.”
Related: Byron York on “The era of resistance journalism:”
Here’s the odd thing. Smith goes through a number of Farrow stories, as well as Farrow’s book, but never mentions his role in one of the most appalling stories published during the Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court confirmation battle. In September 2018, Farrow and the New Yorker’s Jane Mayer published the tale of Deborah Ramirez, who claimed that 35 years earlier, when both she and Kavanaugh were 18 year-old freshmen at Yale, there was a small dorm-room party at which Ramirez — drunk, ‘on the floor, foggy and slurring her words’ — remembered Kavanaugh exposing himself to her. Ramirez admitted she only recalled the incident after consulting with her attorney. Farrow and Mayer could not find any eyewitnesses. Nor were there any real witnesses at all. Later reporters tried to substantiate the story and found a bunch of “witnesses” who had heard something from somebody who might have known something about something they heard might have happened. The story was embarrassingly weak.
It was “resistance journalism” at its worst. And it should not be forgotten.
But pointing that out might upset the Gray Lady’s more delicate readers. Sweeping it under the rug is best for all concerned.

OCEANIA HAS NEVER BEEN AT WAR WITH EASTASIA: Feminists Who Now Claim They Never Meant ‘Believe All Women’ Are Gaslighting Us.
For a perfect example, see the journalist Susan Faludi in The New York Times: “‘Believe All Women’ Is a Right-Wing Trap,” reads the headline on her article. Faludi accuses conservatives of inventing the idea that feminists were demanding that all women be believed. According to her, “the preferred hashtag of the #MeToo movement is #BelieveWomen. It’s different without the ‘all.’ Believing women is simply the rejoinder to the ancient practice of #DoubtWomen.”
“Good luck finding any feminist who thinks we should believe everything all women say—even what they say about sexual assault,” Faludi continues. This directly contradicts her earlier admittal that she had in fact “encountered some feminists who seemed genuinely to subscribe” to the more extreme interpretation of the hashtag.
Faludi is narrowly right that “believe women” was the more popular phrasing among #MeToo activists, and that contrarians were more likely to introduce the word “all” as a means of pointing out how silly the concept was. But whether the phrase contains “all” is unimportant: It means the same thing, regardless. The command to believe group X is straightforwardly and obviously a plea to have faith in the entire collective entity. Faludi claims in her piece that “believe women” is actually the opposite of “believe all women,” but this is absurd. She is, to use a term beloved by victims’ rights advocates, gaslighting her readers.
Those #metoo torpedoes were supposed to take out Trump and Kavanaugh, not circle around and blow up our people!
