KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEF: Dems Circle the Wagons for Crazy Joe the Wonder Veep. “The message is clear: establishment Democrats are still buying the ‘Biden electability’ argument, despite his increasingly erratic and mistake-prone behavior on the campaign trail. That they’re willing to throw in with a candidate who can’t go an hour without making an incredibly stupid mistake rather than rally behind Bernie indicates that they think socialism is a losing issue.”

GENTLE TOUCHDOWN: An F-35B Lightning II lands on the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS America. This post from December 2018 has some background on F-35 variants and their capabilities.

REALCLEARINVESTIGATIONS: Buried: A Bad Faculty Report Card on College Sex Abuse. “College officials are trumpeting their new core mission of protecting female students from male student sexual aggressors. But academe is strangely silent in the face of professors or administrators themselves allegedly crossing the line by leering, making lewd comments, groping students or worse.”

HMM. A mission of “protecting female students from male student sexual aggressors” sounds like a per se Title IX violation itself.

HEH: These suburban white women are ‘mortified’ they voted for Trump. But they’ll do it again.

There are lots of these women in North Carolina, which holds its Democratic primary this week on Super Tuesday, the single day when more voters head to the polls than any other this primary season. Winston-Salem is a progressive university town in the northwest part of the state, but considerably more conservative than nearby Durham or Raleigh. As one woman said, it’s a place with roughly equal numbers of “tattooed, pierced hippies” and people for whom “What church do you go to?” often immediately follows “What is your name?” Most people, multiple women noted, seem to identify as some brand of “moderate.” While the city itself went for Hillary Clinton in 2016, if you drive 15 minutes out in any direction, you’ll find yourself in a light pink precinct that voted, ever so hesitantly, for Trump.

With Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) now the clear Democratic front-runner, many centrist women in Winston-Salem find themselves in a tough spot. They hoped they’d be able to vote for someone other than Trump in 2020: Biden, maybe, or Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.).

But if Sanders is the nominee, they say, “No way.”

Murphy doesn’t regret voting for Trump: She was never going to support Clinton. She will always remember the “60 Minutes” appearance Clinton made when Bill Clinton was running for president in 1992. Responding to a question about her legal career, Clinton said, “I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies.” To Murphy, that comment felt personal: If the two of them met at a party, Murphy says, she feels sure Clinton would not bother to talk to her, a marketing specialist who took years off to raise her kids, educated far from the Ivy League. Many of her friends feel the same way, she says.

“We’ll talk about how horrible Trump is, how embarrassing. We’re mortified. But then we’ll look at each other and be like, ‘Not having Hillary Clinton as president — worth it.’”

Indeed.

KATIE HILL’S REHABILITATION TOUR IS A FAILURE OF MEDIA ETHICS:

We have had two years of the #MeToo-oriented media warning us about superiors leveraging their positions of power to exploit underlings. Now the same media has thrown any learned lessons out the window in order to appease a young attractive Democrat. Part of the reason is because conservative media were the ones to blow the lid off the story. They can’t abide that, and they’re prepared to shred what’s left of their credibility to get revenge.

ROLLING STONE: Democrats Have a Turnout Problem.

The article keeps insisting that Democrats will turn out in yuge numbers in November, just to oust Trump. But that seems like a slender reed when Trump voters are already energized, and Democratic voters aren’t.

So many candidates, so little enthusiasm.

GOOD POINT:

WELL, GOOD: West Virginia Abandons Blockchain Voting in Favor of Paper.

West Virginia’s decision to ditch Voatz comes following a recent security audit conducted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) that was published on Feb. 13.

The report found that “Voatz has vulnerabilities that allow different kinds of adversaries to alter, stop, or expose a user’s vote.” While West Virginia had used Voatz during its 2018 midterm elections, no malicious actors were found to have exploited its vulnerabilities.

MIT’s findings were shared with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency prior to publication. They were then forwarded to state and local electoral officials who had planned to pilot or use Voatz during the 2020 election cycle.

I had been assured by all the brightest people that blockchain was tamper-proof.

JOEY BATTENFELD: What to watch for on Super Tuesday.

The big question heading into Tuesday’s contests in 14 states is whether Biden, fresh off his impressive win in South Carolina and now with Amy Klobuchar and Pete Buttigieg endorsements, can win over enough last-minute voters to block Bernie from a Super Tuesday rout.

The Vermont socialist should win the biggest prize — California — and that could give him hundreds of delegates to make him the clear front-runner heading into the next round of contests next week.

But the Democratic establishment is quickly coming together behind Biden in a last-ditch bid to keep Sanders from winning other competitive states from Texas to Massachusetts.

How desperate are they? They’ve wheeled out John Warner to endorse Biden in Virginia. A guy who makes Biden look young and sprightly; how many Virginia voters even remember who he is? Not many, the Dems probably hope. . .

SO, I’M STILL FIGHTING POST-VIRAL SYNDROME (HAVING BEEN SICK MORE OR LESS SINCE NEW YEAR’S, WITH UPS AND DOWNS) WHICH IS WHY I’VE BEEN SOMEWHAT IRREGULAR ON MY SHIFT HERE.  THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER THINGS HAPPENING IN THE HOUSEHOLD THAT THIS MORNING PROMPTED MY HUSBAND TO SAY SOMETHING ABOUT A RAIN OF FROGS OVER THE BREAKFAST TABLE.
