IDENTITY POLITICS HAS NEVER BEEN MORE IRRELEVANT: The Covid-19 crisis has exposed just how self-indulgent the identitarian left has become.

True, but expect them to ramp up even more online as the Big Shutdown grinds on. As Woody Allen said in Manhattan, people “are constantly creating these real unnecessary neurotic problems for themselves, because it keeps them from dealing with more unsolvable, terrifying problems about the universe.”

Related: Orwell & SJWs: “Of course [Social Justice Warriors] going to find ways to use this crisis to their advantage. They go around inventing problems or dramatically exaggerating or misinterpreting small problems to push their agenda; why wouldn’t they do the same in a situation where there’s so much chaos and thus so much going wrong. My experience so far is that people are really underestimating how much of this there will be and how much of it will be institutionalized while we’re busy doing other things like tending to the sick and dying and trying not to lose our livelihoods and/or join them ourselves.”

CORONAVIRUS INFECTION FATALITY RATE ONLY 0.66 PERCENT? Estimates of the severity of coronavirus disease 2019: a model-based analysis.

This is a more complicated mathematical model for what people have been reading in the medical literature if they read past the headlines. See, for example, Anthony Fauci in the New England Journal of Medicine:

If one assumes that the number of asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic cases is several times as high as the number of reported cases, the case fatality rate may be considerably less than 1%. This suggests that the overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%) or a pandemic influenza (similar to those in 1957 and 1968) rather than a disease similar to SARS or MERS, which have had case fatality rates of 9 to 10% and 36%, respectively.2

THE HISTORY OF SOAP: Now that we’re all washing our hands repeatedly throughout the day, check out The History Guy’s account of how we got soap. Did you know archeologists discovered a recipe for soap in the ruins of ancient Babylon, circa 2200 BC? BTW, is The History Guy Tucker Carlson’s older brother?

USNS COMFORT ARRIVES IN NEW YORK CITY: The Military Sealift Command hospital ship USNS Comfort arrives in New York City in support of the nation’s COVID-19/Wuhan virus response efforts. In 2010 the USNS Comfort deployed to Haiti. Here’s a snapshot of the ship anchored off Paita, Peru (taken in 2011).

RELATED: From 2006, a post discussing the USNS Mercy‘s deployment to Indonesia and the diplomatic pay-off. Here’s a photo of the USNS Mercy and one of its “band-aid boats.” The photo was taken in 2008 in Nha Trang, Vietnam.
