GOOD AND HARD: Oregon sheriffs reject feckless governor’s call for assistance in Portland.

Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts said, through a spokesperson, that in Portland “it’s about changing policy, not adding resources.” Truer words have seldom been spoken.

Roberts explained:

The same offenders are arrested night after night, only to be released by the court and not charged with a crime by the DA’s Office. The next night they are back at it, endangering the lives of law enforcement and the community all over again.

Why should Roberts put the safety of his men on the line in a jurisdiction not his own that operates so stupidly?

Washington County Sheriff Pat Garrett (a famous name in sheriff history) also declined to send his people to Portland. He promised to support the Portland police in “indirect ways, like analyzing risks associated with social media, air support, assisting with a specific criminal investigation, etc.” In other words, his department will assist in ways that won’t expose his folks to the physical risk inherent in Portland’s lax approach to dealing with thugs.

More from John Sexton at Hot Air:

In short, no one wants to volunteer for abuse and potential injury when it’s clear the support for police from elected officials is minimal at best. The real question is why anyone would want this job. That lack of community support must be very clear to Mayor Ted Wheeler. Saturday progressive leaders in the city demanded his resignation… Here’s my prediction: If Mayor Wheeler resigns, nothing will change. The mob claimed victory after federal police left the city last month. Since then the number of riots has increased to one almost every other night. If they force the mayor to resign they will claim victory and the riots will continue, targeting the police and anyone else who opposes them. At the moment, elected leaders in Oregon just aren’t willing to do what it takes to stop the revolution.

Meanwhile, a CNN correspondent shrugs and asks, what revolution?

BILL DE BLASIO CHEERS AS NEW YORK’S TAX BASE FLEES:

The exodus will tank city revenues, but de Blasio’s stuck on his old, old tune: “Help me tax the wealthy. Help me redistribute wealth,” he told WNYC’s Brian Lehrer last week.

De Blasio’s actually doing an excellent job of redistributing wealth: New Yorkers Flee for Florida and Texas as Mobility Surges.

Better get going fast on Glenn’s Welcome Wagon proposal, lest those fleeing New Yorkers bring with them the socialism that led to their electing Bane the mayor of Gotham City.

CHARLES LIPSON: Joe Biden’s Three Risky Choices. “That Biden was willing to leave home on short notice, fly to a swing state, and speak out about the rioting is the clearest indication yet that the election is tightening. Discussing the violence is one of three big, difficult decisions Biden faces as the campaign heats up. Each entails significant risks for a candidate who must hold together a fractious coalition and avoid major gaffes.”

Lipson has some sharp analysis, but I’m still left with one question: Big decisions?

Biden can barely read other people’s words off a teleprompter.

SPREADING PANIC HAS BEEN THE ONLY THING AT WHICH THE MODELS HAVE EXCELLED: Modeling panic in Austin.

ANNALS OF LEFTIST AUTOPHAGY: San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo’s Home Vandalized By BLM Protestors.

Neighbors of San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo quickly banded together after his home was vandalized following protests Friday night.

According to witnesses, someone spray painted the front of the mayor’s home, which had a Black Lives Matter sign in the window, with phrases that included “BLM,” Jacob Blake, along with profanities.

Liccardo said he was away visiting a relative at the time of the incident. The mayor said the vandalism does not detract from his support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Flashback to 2016: San Jose Mayor Justifies Mob Violence.

Thousands of Americans participated in that most benign of civic rituals in San Jose, California, on Thursday night: seeing a presidential candidate speak. Of course, that candidate was Donald Trump, so as these engaged citizens streamed out of the arena, they were subjected to astonishing levels of violence. An angry mob pelted eggs, tomatoes, and bottles at the spectators—as well as the police, who tried (and failed) to maintain some semblance of order. Other Trump supporters were set upon and punched. One was left with blood streaming down his face…The mayor of San Jose, Democrat Sam Liccardo, reacted angrily to the events. Not that he was particularly upset at the violent mob that attacked innocent Americans, of course. No, his ire was directed at Mr. Trump. “At some point Donald Trump needs to take responsibility for the irresponsible behavior of his campaign,” the mayor said. Apparently it was downright “irresponsible” of Trump to even set foot in California’s third largest city.

It’s all fun and games on the left until the mob comes for you.
