NAVY FAST TRANSPORT: The USN’s newest Expeditionary Fast Transport (EPF) vessel, the USNS Newport, successfully completes its integrated sea trials tests. Photo taken July 30, 2020. This second photo shows three EPFs moored at Virginia Beach. Here’s an article from 2015 discussing the development of High Speed Vessels (HSVs) for sea transport. This second article, also form 2015, discusses the introduction of the designation “Expeditionary” — why Joint High Speed Vessels became Expeditionary Fast Transports.

DYSTOPIAN THOUGHTS: Urban Criminal Gangs in the Civil War to Come. “Although murders in Chicago seemed to level off in the 2005-2010 period, the percentage of murders attributable to gangs actually went up significantly. Nearly two thirds of murders in Chicago are committed by gang members. This has happened because of the close working relationship between gang leaders and many Chicago aldermen and City Hall functionaries. Major gangs have enjoyed substantial if not complete official protection from the Chicago police and prosecutors for at least twenty years.”

DECOUPLING: Samsung reportedly cutting off chip sales to Huawei. “Samsung and SK Hynix will reportedly stop selling components to Huawei as the Trump administration tightens sanctions on the Chinese phone maker. According to Chosun Ilbo and other Korean news outlets, the companies will suspend trade on September 15th, the day a new set of rules limits dealing with Huawei.”

Related? Huawei planning to produce far fewer phones in 2021. “This is a 74% drop compared to projected shipments in 2020.”

IT’S GOOD TO BE THE NOMENKLATURA: Biden Surrogate Builds Wall, Makes Michigan Taxpayers Pay For It. “Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has long questioned the effectiveness of physical barriers, but is asking Michigan taxpayers to foot the bill for a seven-figure project to keep out uninvited guests.”

SLAVERY OR FREEDOM:  THE CONCEPTION OF AMERICA:  This sounds like an interesting program.  A number of great people will be participating, including Bill Allen, Chuck DeVore, Peter Kirsanow, Wilfred Reilly, Peter Wood, and Cathy Young, all of whom are very much worth listening to.  Here’s the program description:

How should we teach American history?  The New York Times’ 1619 Project and associated curriculum disseminated by the Pulitzer Center teaches a polemical narrative of oppression, shorn of nuance, context, or historical accuracy.  Yet this narrative has had success in persuading minds across the nation and beyond that the “America the exceptional nation” story is wrong,  misguided and fails to tell the whole truth. …

This webinar conference will address how we understand and teach America’s founding:  should we place the ideals of liberty or the institution of slavery as the foundation of American history?

It takes place over the course of five days, September 14-18 and it sponsored by the Alexander Hamilton Institute, the Texas Public Policy Institute and the National Association of Scholars.  Watch a little or a lot.

OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE BASED ON SYSTEMIC HATRED OF BOYS AND BOYHOOD: Joanne Jacobs: Zero tolerance for boys’ toys.

In Colorado Springs, Colorado, a teacher glimpsed a neon-green Nerf gun, labeled “ZOMBIE HUNTER,” as Isaiah Elliott, 12, moved it from one side of the couch to the other. She told the principal that it probably was a toy, but she wasn’t sure. Nobody called the parents. Instead the principal sent sheriff’s deputies to the home for a “welfare check” and suspended the student for five days for violating school policy on bringing a gun look-alike to school.

CUOMO THE KILLER:

I feel a Neil Young parody coming on.

NEW FRONTIERS IN COMMUNITY POLICING:

UPDATE: From the comments: “I love how there’s also a demonstration of ‘the police are there to protect the criminals from the citizens.'” Also? I’d say that demonstration was the main event.
