GOTTA ADMIRE THIS MAN’S SPUNK: Pastor John MacArthur says he will start a jail ministry if California authorities arrest him for holding indoor services at Grace Community Church in Los Angeles County.

Once again, it’s time for the socialists nationally to ask themselves, “Are we the baddies?”

Related: “A video posted to Twitter shows a crowd of nurses and doctors in personal protective equipment gathered outside a hospital, a location of NYU Langone Health, cheering as a group of protesters pass through the street. Many of the protesters, almost all wearing face masks, can be seen cheering the hospital workers in return, with some shouting ‘thank you.’”

AS I JUST SUGGESTED IN A TV INTERVIEW, THE FACT THAT DEATHS AND HOSPITALIZATIONS AREN’T TRACKING CASES THE WAY THEY DID IN MARCH SUGGESTS THAT RESPONSES THAT WERE REASONABLE IN MARCH AREN’T ACCEPTABLE NOW: Covid-19 case mortality data from ICE facilities and the knuckleheads thing.
The agency has found 5,810 cases of Covid-19, for a “positivity rate” from testing at an ugly 16.6%. That is the sort of rate that gets journalists screaming at governors, fun banned, and schools firmly virtual.
But only 6 detainees have died of the Covid. That is a case-fatality ratio of… 0.1%. Compare that number to the observed case fatality rates in various countries, which are massively higher. The Covid-19 case fatality rate in ICE detention centers is right in line with the seasonal flu. That made us curious.
But read on for a positive take on America’s younger generations, and yes, I’m serious.
UPDATE: Nashville Mayor’s Office, Health Department Concealed Low COVID Numbers Tied to Restaurants, Emails Show. “Officials in Nashville, Tn. concealed from the media how few coronavirus cases had been traced to bars and restaurants in the city, according to emails sent between the mayor’s office and the city’s health department. Emails obtained by FOX 17 News appear to show that the two offices seemingly conspired to conceal data showing that while construction and nursing homes led to more than a thousand cases each as of June 30th, only 22 cases had been traced to bars and restaurants.”
On those numbers, you can’t really justify closing the bars and restaurants. Nashville, by the way, is run by Democrats.
ANOTHER UPDATE: InstaPundit, August 5: “That’s right, the science — contact-tracing, etc. — doesn’t support bars as a major source of infection, yet they voted to close them anyway. This was met with defiance, and now they’ve changed the rule. The curfew, I suspect, is mostly just a face-saver. And let me add, where’s the science? We’ve been doing testing and tracing in Knox County for going on 5 months. If they don’t know where people are getting it and where they’re not — and they’re still making health regulations based on guess-and-try rather than the data they should have in hand — then they should expect more resistance in the future.”

COLORADO: Police Stand Down Twice To Avoid Arresting Violent Felon. Guess Why. “The situation was so far out of control that the police believe it might result in someone winding up dead, but they were told to ‘stand down’ and walk away. Twice. So what led to that decision? The Deputy Chief admitted that the choice made by the police was influenced by the death of Elijah McClain in police custody last month.”
THINGS YOU’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO TALK ABOUT BECAUSE REASONS: Thanks, Fox News, for reminding us of the Soros role in creating America’s riot-coddling DAs.
It wasn’t really news. Nor was it controversial. It’s been reported in detail by conservative outfits for years. Fox News itself, news division, reported it. What was strange was that bizarrely unprofessional reaction from this one show, and from hosts whom most viewers have trusted and respected, such as Harris Faulkner and Melissa Francis. The leftist flak for the Obama administration, Marie Harf, no journalist, could be dismissed, given that she is no stranger to boldface lying for her bosses to sing for her supper. But why was Francis the first to bring it up, only to have Harf as her growling dog backing her up with her absolutely adamant call not to engage Gingrich? What did he say that was so evil and unfit for TV? Note that Harf was unable to cite any reasons — she has none; she just wanted to play commissar censor and, like all commissar censors, had a whiff of fear of those above her. Note that booming, croaking, dead-toned angry adamant voice, like that of an upset socialite or desperate high school principal. Shut up, she explained. It really was remarkable. She really didn’t want any discussion or even mention of Soros. But why did Faulkner coolly move on after cutting Newt off?
The strange behavior of Francis and Faulkner actually drew more attention to the issue because we expected better.
Fox has disappointed lately. Here’s the video:
The behavior is quite noticeably strange, and I think Fox owes Gingrich — and its viewers — an apology. And an explanation.
LARRY O’CONNOR: Stop Lowering Expectations for Biden’s Debate Performance. “I know it’s fun to point out all of the stupid, meandering, and incoherent ramblings Biden exhibits on a nearly daily basis, but could we please stop playing into this narrative that President Trump is going to clean his clock at the presidential debates later this month?”
Indeed.
Ann Althouse last week: “He is reasonably nimble. He can evade. He’s very evasive. You’ve got to give him that. He’s old and often seems confused, but when cornered, he’s quick to evade.”
If Biden can manage two hours of the rote fallback answers he’s been using since the 2012 campaign, it will be spun as a win.
Trump’s job — because the moderators won’t do it — will be to force Biden off-script.
The total cost of damages from the riots sparked by the death of George Floyd surpassed the cost of the 1992 Rodney King riots, according to estimates from insurance claims throughout the United States.
The string of riots that followed Floyd’s death from May 26 to June 8 are expected to cost between $1 billion and $2 billion, according to Axios. The protests took place throughout 140 U.S. cities, with some of the demonstrations devolving into violent riots filled with vandalism, arson, and looting.
This year’s riots surpassed the destruction that took place in 1992 in Los Angeles between April 29 and May 4, following the acquittal of the officers who had beaten King. Those riots cost $775 million, or roughly $1.4 billion when adjusted for inflation.
Likely much more than $2 billion: “And that’s all without even considering the long-term economic impact rioting has on a community. We must also remember that riots leave a lasting shadow on a city that haunts its economy for decades. The afflicted areas face higher insurance rates, lower property values, higher prices, reduced tax revenue, and decreased economic opportunity.”
QUESTION ASKED AND ANSWERED: America’s allies don’t like Trump. So what?
Item: 86 percent of Germans ‘had confidence’ in Barack Obama. Any sane person, I submit, should close any report that contains that statement and back slowly away. Barack Obama was a disaster as a president. Not a passive disaster like a bombed out building but an active one, like an irradiated garbage dump or an outbreak of foot and mouth disease.
Obama was bad in his policies and bad in the example he set. Bent on fundamentally transforming the United States of America, he made us poorer, less free and less secure. He weakened our military, opened our borders, and injected the toxin of identity politics into tissues of American life. He will never be held to account for it, but he was also the spider at the center of the effort, first, to deny Donald Trump the presidency and then, when that failed, to delegitimate and ultimately destroy his administration by weaponizing the police power of the state against him.
