WELL, FONDA HAS ALWAYS LOVED TOTALITARIAN LEFTISTS: Kamala Harris to Appear Alongside Hanoi Jane. Event comes one week after Biden hosted veterans outreach roundtable. “The Biden campaign, which has bombarded President Donald Trump with attacks about his respect for U.S. soldiers, will be campaigning this weekend with Jane Fonda, a celebrity best known for fraternizing with enemy troops during the Vietnam War.”

I’M EXPECTING AN EARTH-SHATTERING KABOOM: Review: Colt Python Revolver in .357 Magnum.

Seriously, that’s one reason I’d never carry a .357. I think its crack is more likely damaging to the ears than any other handgun. Not an issue at the range, with ear protection, but as a carry gun it’s a genuine drawback.

MEANWHILE, OVER AT VODKAPUNDIT: Where’s Waljoe? Tired Joe Biden Ditching 1/3rd of Campaign, Harris Shaking Off the Press. “Presumably, Biden is so exhausted from his rigorous morning routine of plug and denture maintenance that he only has energy enough to campaign fewer than two out of every three days.”

DISPATCHES FROM THE EDUCATION APOCALYPSE: UW-Madison student newspaper fires conservative columnist after refusing to run his op-ed.

Tripp Grebe, its author, called for better pay, better training, and police union reforms.

“If we’re expecting police officers to be better, why would we be taking money away from them? When schools are failing, we don’t ‘Defund Schools,’ we give them more money and implement new plans to ensure their success,” Grebe wrote in his submission.

“The city of Milwaukee has been defunding the police department for years. This past year the city cut the department’s budget by 60 officers, and the homicide rate in Milwaukee has more than doubled,” he argued. “… As we continue to stare directly into the eyes of police brutality’s harsh existence, let’s continue to fight for solutions. Let’s increase training and funding for police while extending Act 10 to cover police unions.”

After he submitted it, he was told by the Herald’s opinion editor Samiha Bhushan via email in late August that although the piece was “well written” that it was “too much of a hot take,” and that upper management of the paper was worried it may “alienate” incoming freshmen, according to a screenshot of the email.

“Additionally,” the email continues, “we just posted an editorial board supporting BLM and another article publicly endorsing two candidates who want to defund the police. As a result, your article would cause a lot of backlash that we cannot afford right now.”

Gentlemen, you can’t be controversial here – this is a newspaper!

CAPITOL HILL BAPTIST CHURCH SUES DC MAYOR, GOVERNMENT: It’s tough to survive as a congregation when government officials bar any worship gatherings of 100 or more people, regardless if they are indoors or outdoors.

That’s why the 850-member Capitol Hill Baptist Church (CHBC) is suing Mayor Muriel Bowser and the District of Columbia government. Church leaders told the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia that for CHBC there is no theologically acceptable alternative to meeting together in person for fellowship and worship. Thus, the church has no virtual meeting capacity.

This suit could prove to be much more significant than at first glance it might appear because the D.C. government is the creation of Congress, which is itself explicitly barred by the First Amendment from prescribing what is acceptable worship practice and what is not.

There is also an element of basic hypocrisy, as the church pointed out in its filing:

“Defendants have been discriminatory in their application of the ban on large scale gatherings. For example, on June 6, 2020, Mayor Bowser appeared personally at an outdoor gathering of tens of thousands of people at the corner of 16th and H Streets, NW and delivered a speech describing the large gathering as ‘wonderful to see.’”

The church is represented by the First Liberty Institute of Plano, Texas, which has successfully defended multiple individuals and congregations that have tangled with authorities as a result of Covid-19 enforcement policies.

HYGIENE THEATER: Schools aren’t spreading coronavirus. “The new National COVID-19 School Response Data Dashboard released its first data showing low levels of infection among students and teachers. Emily Oster, a Brown economics professor who helped create the dashboard, said school coronavirus rates are ‘much lower’ than those in the surrounding community.”

K-12 IMPLOSION UPDATE: What led to Utah’s K-12 enrollment dropping for the first time in 20 years. “The biggest factor that contributed to the decline was parents pulling their kids out to do home schooling this fall. . . . A change like this, even if it is temporary, has huge ramifications.”

It probably isn’t temporary. People are realizing that public schools aren’t essential services and teachers aren’t essential workers.

All is proceeding as I have foreseen — with a boost from the pandemic.

IN THE ABOVE THE LAW RANKINGS BASED ON EMPLOYMENT, Tennessee is #41, #16 among public law schools.

POTEMKIN HEALTH MEASURES: Marriott CEO Admits Hotels are Engaging in ‘Hygiene Theater,’ Again Praises Totalitarian Measures. “It’s communicating to folks we care about what you feel and want you to stop and think about if you’re having any symptoms, and we also want to communicate to you that you’re now entering a place in which we’ve got protocols in place to protect you and others in the environment.”

It’s all about the feelz.
