SNOWFALLS ARE NOW JUST A THING OF THE PAST: Chicago gets its earliest snowfall in 30 years as cars crash on slick roadways, homes lose power and residents reschedule Halloween trick-or-treating.
In September, NPR’s Chicago affiliate suggested “10 Things Chicago Mayor Lightfoot Can Do To Combat Climate Change.” Perhaps she needs dial her efforts back a bit.

A BRAVE DOG ISN’T THE ONLY ANIMAL HERO THIS WEEK: Meet the goats who helped save the Reagan Library from fire.
ALL-IN FOR MEDICAL GADGETS: Apple hires another prominent cardiologist as it makes heart health a big area of focus.
All is proceeding as I have foreseen.

HOWIE CARR: “If I ever get jammed up with the law, I ask for no special treatment. Just treat me like an illegal immigrant.”
A DECADE OF FIGHTING FAKE NEWS: Congrats to W. Joseph Campbell on the 10 year anniversary of MediaMythAlert. Joseph This post from 2011 has received the most views over the years: Yellow journalism ‘brought about Spanish-American War’? But how?
JIM TREACHER: Trump Tweets Meme About Hero Dog, Journos Lose Minds.
Now, I’m no expert on photographs or photography, but I took one glance at that and concluded it’s obviously not a real photo, and obviously not meant to be mistaken for one. See the “@realDailyWire” watermark in the lower-right corner? That’s Ben Shapiro’s site. Somebody at the Daily Wire took an old picture of Trump awarding somebody a medal, and then crudely Photoshopped in the picture of the dog that helped track down al-Baghdadi. Everybody loves the hero dog, so here’s a meme about the dog. Hooray for that awesome dog! It’s not meant to deceive. It’s meant to be enjoyed.
Trump thought it was funny, so he tweeted it. And I agree with him. It’s funny. It’s silly. It’s a goof. It’s harmless.
Or so I thought.
As Treacher asks, “What happens when they decide the real scandal isn’t a POTUS eating dogs, but being Photoshopped into a picture with a dog?” You get this:

Of course, the “objective” media’s response to Photoshops and political memes (laughing and promoting them versus amped-up-to-11 childish freakouts) ultimately comes down which party issues them: ‘A tale of two memes’: Peter J. Hasson notices that the NYT has quite a double standard when it comes to tweeting doctored images [screenshots].
SO YOU’RE ADMITTING THAT LOCAL GOVERNMENT IS INCAPABLE OF PERFORMING BASIC FUNCTIONS: Firms like Facebook should resurface San Jose streets.

IF YOU KNOW WHO ‘SAMMY SOIL’ IS, YOU ARE ONE OF THE FEW: Sammy Soil is the name of the mascot for the Department of Agriculture to promote its Natural Resources Conservation Program. He’s one of 18 mascots costing more than $250,000. The mascots are part of the $1.4 billion federal bureaucrats spend annually on SWAG, which Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) wants to end.
TRANSGENDER BATHROOM CASE HEADED UP TO THE FOURTH CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS (AGAIN): Remember the Supreme Court case of Gloucester County School Board v. G.G.? In 2017, the Supreme Court dodged the issue by remanding the case to the lower courts. Judge Arenda Wright Allen (an Obama appointee) recently held that schools do indeed have to allow transgender students to use the bathrooms, locker rooms and showers used by the sex they identify with rather than their anatomical sex. So the appeal process is starting up again.
Here is the amicus brief that Peter Kirsanow and I filed when the case was before the Supreme Court. All the arguments still apply except the one about deference to an agency’s interpretation of its own rules. Because the Trump Administration withdrew the Obama Administration’s interpretation, there is no longer any need to worry about deference.
TODAY’S NON-SHOCKING NEWS: One Of Erdogan’s Biggest Allies Contributed To Ilhan Omar’s Campaign. “An official with a Turkish-American advocacy group contributed $1,500 to Rep. Ilhan Omar last month, campaign records show. He also met with the Minnesota Democrat. Omar was scrutinized over votes she cast Tuesday that are seen as favorable to the Turkish government.”
AND, SAY, SAUDI ARABIA SO FEW? Why Does Israel Have So Many Startups.
BUT TRUMP’S THE ONE WITH THE DANGEROUS EGO: Hillary Thinks God Put Her Here To Be President? Heaven Help Us.
COLD CIVIL WAR UPDATE: A transnational elite racing its way to a revolution. In America and around the world, a transnational elite postures for itself and despises the people it rules. This is a recipe for a bloody revolution.
Back in 1992, when I was a Democrat, I remember that one of cheers that Bill Clinton liked to use at his rallies to get the audience revved up was, “It’s time for them to go” — with “them” referring to the Republicans who had held the White House for 12 years, to America’s tremendous social and economic benefit.
I don’t look back fondly on the Clinton years, and regret my votes at the time, but I like that theme. Across the world, as weary, beaten-down people look at a ruling class that sees them as despicable, dirty deplorables, these ordinary people, these normals, need to rise up and say, “It’s time for them to go.”
And here’s a word of warning to the ruling class: You managed to keep a lid on things for seven decades after WWII. The people’s discontent, though, is boiling. Bad things happen when the pressure from that boiling finally blows off that tightly pressed lid. I suggest that the Western world’s ruling class, as well as the ruling class in China and the Middle East, gracefully backs away from the levers of power before its members get their greedy, smug little hands blown off of those same levers.
