SOCIAL JUSTICE WARRIORS ARE GARBAGE PEOPLE: Karol Markowicz: The Times’ obscene attacks on the Apollo program. “‘Cosmonaut diversity was key for the Soviet message to the rest of the globe,’ the writer, Sophie Pinkham, wrote. Her piece reads like something from an old issue of the Soviet newspaper Pravda boasting of the achievements of the Soviet space program.”

Or maybe she’s a closet alt-right operative, comparing the failed-but-diverse Soviet program with the white-male-dominated American program that actually landed men (!) on the Moon. Best to un-person her just in case.

ANNALS OF LEFTIST AUTOPHAGY: Far Left Prepares To Throw Barack Obama Into The Dustbin Of History.

That’s already begun, as I mentioned in March, when Ilhan Omar attacked Obama’s policies both at the border and in the Middle East. Bernie was trashing the economy of the Obama era while Obama was still in office. AOC’s “Green New Deal” is premised on the notion that Obama’s own green-obsessed “New New Deal” (as Time magazine dubbed it) accomplished nothing. And since Joe Biden is running on Obama-era nostalgia, that encourages all of his opponents to point out all that went wrong during “the most scandal-free administration in history.” (Just ask them.)

THIS WEEK IN CALI MADNESS: Saving the Planet from Natural Gas. “Are you tired of paying too little for clean-burning energy that reduces carbon emissions? Then has Berkeley got a deal for you!”

MALTHUS IS DEAD, PAUL EHRLICH WAS WRONG, AND EVEN THE VERY FUNNY COMMENTERS ARE ASSUMING THAT CENSUSES IN AFRICA ARE REAL AND THE POPULATION IS EXPLODING THERE: I don’t know whether to pat them on the head for their trust in governments that are net recipients of aid per-capita, or be in awe of their confidence that tribal, screwed up Africa could get an accurate count if they wanted to (note, we don’t, and pad the censuses with all sorts of “uncountable” people).  And that’s before I ARGH at the fact they don’t seem to notice the massive deaths from AIDS (which was actually an heterosexual disease there, for various cultural reasons and an epidemic) were never shown in the count.  But overall, their hearts are in the right place.  You can have our burgers when you pry them out of our cold, dead hands.

AT LEAST NO ONE HAS TO EXPLAIN TO THEIR LITTLE KIDS — NOW — WHY ALL ADULTS BLUSH AT THE MENTION OF CIGARS AND BLUE DRESSES:  Trump is Teaching Our Children All the Bad Things.

Note that the presidents I used (and only parts of their bios) as role models for my kids were George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and the more expurgated parts of Benjamin Franklin (Until they got old enough to savor double entendres.)  And that as a libertarian my response to the Clinton mess was “Aye, very good. It’s only sex. And if the president submits to his private life being on pay-perview he can just sex as much as he wants. And we can pay the national debt.” It’s the hypocrisy that annoys me.

ANALYSIS: TRUE. Ilhan Omar Happened Because Media Chose to Lie to You. “Three years ago, most American newsrooms picked Ilhan Omar — despite her crawling Jew-hatred and evidence of an extensive criminal past — to be the transcendent face America needed to fight bigotry and federal corruption. Reporters apparently chose to lie about Omar to help birth a more trusting country.”

OPEN THREAD: Knock yourselves out.

EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN: “Gendered Language Like ‘Manhole’ Will Soon Be Banned From Berkeley’s City Codes,” CBS’s Sacramento affiliate reports.

The city voted Tuesday night to replace gendered terms in its municipal codes, like “manhole” and “manpower,” with gender-neutral ones like “maintenance hole” and “human effort.”

The item passed without discussion or comments and was not controversial, said Berkeley City Council member Rigel Robinson, the bill’s primary author.

“There’s power in language,” Robinson said. “This is a small move, but it matters.”

The revised city documents also will replace instances of gendered pronouns, such as “he” and “she” with “they,” according to the ordinance.

Berkeley’s municipal code currently contains mostly masculine pronouns, the office of the city manager said in a letter to the mayor and city council.

“Having a male-centric municipal code is inaccurate and not reflective of our reality,” Robinson said. “Women and non-binary individuals are just as entitled to accurate representation. Our laws are for everyone, and our municipal code should reflect that.”

That topic was mentioned in passing during Ronald Reagan’s very last radio address before announcing his candidacy for the White House way back in 1979:

In Woonsocket, Rhode Island, the City Council has ruled that from now on those metal-covered holes in our streets we’ve long called manholes will henceforth be known as person holes.

And in Missoula, Montana, a Peeping Tom ordinance is now a `Peeping Person’ law.

No one will benefit from Berkeley’s dip into the Newspeak Dictionary, except for the city’s uber-woke bureaucrats. They’ll now have yet another reason to chastise the blue collar workers who have to go down what will now be called “maintenance holes” to help keep the city’s infrastructure running. And Gaia forbid that a sewer worker slip and call them manhole covers when dealing with his boss, who is more interested in pronouns than keeping the city’s plumbing working.

Or as Victor Davis Hanson wrote a few years ago when asking why Sacramento was increasingly beguiled with high-speed rail, even as its own highways were crumbling, “It is almost as if California answers back: ‘I am too bewildered by your premodern challenges, so I will take psychological refuge in my postmodern fantasies.'”

WAR ON SCIENCE: Protesters continue to block telescope construction in Hawaii. “The number of protesters daily blocking access to Mauna Kea in Hawaii and thus prevent the start of construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) grew to more than 2,000 yesterday. The police arrested 33 people, but did nothing else to clear the road. Meanwhile, Democratic governor David Ige finally took some action, albeit mild.”

UPDATE: From the comments: “So on the 50th anniversary of the manned moon landing, we have pagans protesting an astronomical observatory on land sacred to a volcano god. Stupid people. They’re everywhere.”

This didn’t happen in 1969 because it would have been mocked and punished. It happens now because it is indulged. But it’s just some grifter angling for a payoff.

IRAN: “Defensive action”: We took down an Iranian drone, says Trump. “This isn’t Trump in boastful rally mode, spiking the football after a show of American military strength. This is Trump sounding subdued because he knows that incidents like this might draw a response that will change the course of his presidency in an instant. He doesn’t want war — he’s made that clear and there’s every reason to think he’s telling the truth.”
