TEACH WOMEN NOT TO SEXUALLY EXPLOIT THE SICK AND DYING: Female doctor, 37, loses her license for affair with ’emaciated’ male cancer patient after swapping numbers a day after his devastating diagnosis and having sex with him in his hospital bed. Making it worse is that after a while she dumped him for a colleague — and cut him off as a patient.

JOE BIDEN EMBRACED SEGREGATION IN 1975, CLAIMING IT WAS A MATTER OF ‘BLACK PRIDE:’

But 44 years ago, facing a backlash against busing from white voters, the future vice president voiced concerns not just about the policy of busing, which he had supported when first seeking election in 1972, but about the impact of desegregation on American society. He argued that segregation was good for blacks and was what they wanted.

“I think the concept of busing … that we are going to integrate people so that they all have the same access and they learn to grow up with one another and all the rest, is a rejection of the whole movement of black pride,” said Biden. Desegregation, he argued, was “a rejection of the entire black awareness concept, where black is beautiful, black culture should be studied; and the cultural awareness of the importance of their own identity, their own individuality.”

Questioning whether he might be a racist, Biden said he had asked “the blacks on my staff” whether he harbored something “in me that’s deep-seated that I don’t know.”

Based on much more recent evidence, Joe is still working through that question.

CHANGE: Google+ accounts and pages will be shut down April 2nd.

I tried Google+ when it first rolled out, but only briefly. It seemed like social media for OCD types more interested in organizing their relationships with people than in interacting with people.

BLESS THEIR HEARTS: NBC Frets Super Bowl Halftime Show is ‘Personal Affront’ to Colin Kaepernick.

[Today Show Co-host] Craig Melvin conducted a softball interview with Kaepernick’s attorney Mark Geragos, who was given a platform to push conspiracy theories about his client’s professional football career coming to an end.

* * * * * * * *

Melvin followed up by worrying that musicians agreeing to perform in the Super Bowl halftime show were offending Kaepernick: “As you know, a number of the halftime acts have taken heat for performing at the Super Bowl this year, Maroon 5, Big Boy, Travis Scott among them. Does Collin Kaepernick see their participation during the halftime show as some sort of personal affront?”

Gergagos launched into a tirade condemning the performers:

I think what it says is, number one, they do take a lot of heat, and I think rightfully so. I mean, the idea that you’re going to basically cross a picket line – because that’s what they’re doing, they’re crossing an intellectual picket line. They’re saying to themselves, “I care more about my career than I do about whether what I’m doing is right”….could cross the intellectual and ideological picket line, I think there’s something wrong with that and they should be called out.

Melvin lamented that given the “successful season for the NFL” in which “ratings are up,”  Kaepernick’s “mission” might have “failed.” Geragos rejected the notion and bizarrely tried to blame Russia for the controversy swirling around his client’s national anthem protests: “I think he opened the door to a robust discussion. And I think there’s also an element of this, there’s been quite a bit of reporting, that basically the so-called divisiveness that this caused was actually ginned up or generated by a Russian disinformation effort.”

Umm, during the 49ers’ 2-14 season in 2016, Kaepernick wore socks depicting cops as pigs embroidered on them, kneeled during the national anthem, and wore a pro-Castro T-shirt during his postgame press-conference after losing to the Miami Dolphins. Wasn’t the goal of all that SJW cosplay to gin up plenty of “so-called divisiveness?”

In any case, as a prominent employee of both NBC and Comcast, Melvin has direct access to the corporate boardroom. If he concurs with Kaepernick’s attorney that the NFL should come to a halt until his client can lace up his cleats again, shouldn’t he be publicly demanding that NBC blackout their Sunday Night Football show each week, and/or Comcast blackout NFL coverage on all their cable channels until Kaepernick has a starting job somewhere? Why is he so eager to cross the “intellectual picket line” himself?

LEARN TO CODE: Vice Media Cuts 250 Jobs, 10% of Workforce.

The move is part of a global restructuring that will affect 250 jobs. Vice Media will no longer be organizing its global business according to individual countries, instead collapsing its international divisions into regions and according to its five lines of business, the people said. These lines are Studios, News, Digital, TV and Virtue, the company’s in-house advertising agency.

The company’s weekly show on HBO—called “Vice,” and long its most high-profile brand flagship—will also be ending, though the daily news show will continue. Some staff from the weekly show will be redeployed into new documentary products, according to one of the people.

The Vice layoffs follow similar cutbacks at other digital publishers, which are reckoning with an increasingly difficult online-advertising market and investors whose backing came with the expectation of red-hot returns.

Last week, BuzzFeed said it was cutting around 250 jobs, or 15% of its workforce, as it tries to get on a path to profitability. Verizon Media Group cut staff at its HuffPost and Yahoo News units, and Mic.com, another digital publisher, laid off almost all of its employees before selling itself to Bustle Digital Group. Refinery29 cut about 10% of its workforce in October.

I can say “learn to code” here, because this isn’t Twitter. Related thoughts here.

UPDATE: From the comments: “The increasingly difficult on line advertising market is another way of saying Google-Facebook duopoly. It would be delicious to have these layoffs used as evidence in the antitrust suit.”

GODSPEED: SpaceX’s Huge Falcon Heavy Rocket Will Launch On Its 2nd Flight in March. “The rocket will loft the 6.6-ton (6 metric tons) Arabsat 6A communications satellite for Saudi Arabia, a far more conventional payload than the Falcon Heavy toted on its first mission. That shakedown flight, which lifted off from Pad 39A in February 2018, sent a Tesla Roadster and its mannequin driver, dubbed Starman, into orbit around the sun.”

WE ARE BRINGING IN EXPERTS TO TALK ABOUT WHAT WE CAN BAN:” The inevitable reaction by the University of Oklahoma after two students made an Instagram-type video where one of them put black paint on her face and used a (weirdly garbled) racial slur. The students, of course, “will not return to campus.” This foolishness must stop. There is one way to get people to stop being racist or doing racist things, and that is to convince them that it’s wrong. Black musician Daryl Davis has convinced 200 actual KKK members to quit the Klan by, get this, actually talking to them. How many racists will be persuaded they’re wrong by OU’s efforts to “ban what we can?” 200? 100? Will there even be a single one? Would banning one of your opinions convince you it was wrong?

I misspoke. This isn’t foolishness. This is cynical political and PR calculation pretending to be a sincere effort against racism. The best that can be said of OU here is that it hasn’t gone the full David Boren collective punishment route this time. Yet.

UPDATE: Well, this guy clearly has to resign as Governor of Virginia now. Right? If you think he shouldn’t resign, but that the OU student also should not be “returning to campus,” I implore you to think about what that says about OU’s response to the video.

WHY POLITICIANS HATE HOMESCHOOLING. Well, it gets people out from under their thumbs.
