CHANGE: Trump economy ‘killing it with union workers,’ the ‘opening’ to women, independents.

The humming economy is not only boosting support for President Trump among union workers, Hispanics, and even Amazon shoppers, but it is his pathway to bringing in new voters, especially skeptical women and independent voters.

In a polling deep-dive of the electorate provided to Secrets, Zogby Analytics found that the economy is Trump’s best ally in the 2020 election and an impeachment buffer.

Pollster Jonathan Zogby also found that it is edging Trump’s 48% approval rating higher than the one former President Barack Obama had at this stage in his presidency.

Which is amazing, given that the press was unabashedly cheerleading for Obama, and has had the knives out for Trump since Day One.

BUT YOU CAN STILL DO IT OUT OF LOVE:  The New York Post reports that New York City bans calling someone an “illegal alien” out of hate.   Or reporting an illegal alien to the immigration authorities out of hate.

OPEN THREAD: You know what to do. It’s not your first rodeo.

THE LATEST DISPATCHES FROM THE WORLD OF JACOBIN KNITTING. Cast off: how knitters turned nasty. However woke you are, it’s not good enough:

Activists for minority groups are almost always demonized as being unreasonably angry. Gay rights campaigners from the 20th century will point out that no one listened to them until they started making a real noise. But what’s different here is that the anger is focused internally, rather than on those opposing change. Taylor and Davies were both keen to help the fight against racism in their communities. They weren’t denying that it was happening, but felt the bad faith between knitters was unhelpful. This is not, any longer, an acceptable view. If you’re not with the angry activists of the knitting world, you’re against them — and woe betide you then. One small slip and you’ll find yourself being unpicked entirely.

GOOD, I HATE THESE: How an Ice Bath May Undermine Your Weight Workout: Cold water immersion is popular with some athletes, but it may slow the growth of new muscle. “In effect, the soakers’ muscles seemed to have become biochemically primed for slower recovery and less growth than the tissues of the other men, says Aaron Petersen, a senior lecturer in exercise physiology at Victoria University, who led the new study. Dr. Petersen and his colleagues suspect that the repeated cold-water immersions may have triggered complex metabolic reactions inside the body that prioritize keeping tissues warm over helping them to grow.”

I’ll stick with a nice hot post-workout shower.

IT’S ALMOST AS IF PEOPLE CHANGE POSITIONS DEPENDING ON THEIR PARTISAN PREFERENCES: Some of us are old enough to remember that Moveon.org was founded in 1998 to urge Congress to “move on” from impeachment and address “pressing issues facing the nation.” Times have changed.

TESLA ELECTRIC COP CAR RUNS OUT OF JUICE WHILE CHASING BAD GUY:

The police are supposed to protect and serve. But what’s the point of protecting and serving the public if you’re not protecting and serving Gaia? It’s good to stop crime, but there won’t be any crime at all if everybody gets killed by the weather. That’s why I’m glad to see police departments switching to electric cars. Unlike those dirty gas-burning cars, electric ones are powered by… magic, I think? Goodbye, boys in blue. Hello, guys in green!

In Soviet America, Cheap Trick’s “Green Police” handcuff themselves!

MICHAEL BLOOMBERG: Xi Jinping Is ‘Not a Dictator.’

Bloomberg defended China’s ruling communist regime citing its handling of pollution and environmental policy, claiming that it is responding to the needs of citizens. The billionaire’s comments come amid months of violent protest in Hong Kong and international outcry about the oppression of Chinese Muslims.

“The Communist Party wants to stay in power in China and they listen to the public,” Bloomberg said. “When the public says ‘I can’t breathe the air,’ Xi Jinping is not a dictator. He has to satisfy his constituents, or he’s not going to survive.”

“He’s not a dictator?” Hoover asked. “He doesn’t have a vote, he doesn’t have a democracy. He’s not held accountable by voters. Is the check on him just a revolution?”

“No, he has a constituency to answer to,” Bloomberg responded. “You’re not going to have a revolution. No government survives without the will of the majority of its people.”

The secret police and the Orwellian social credit system and the reeducation camps and whatnot are… the will of the people then?

DISPATCHES FROM THE EDUCATION APOCALYPSE: Prof: Tom Brady’s ‘white male omnipotence’ ‘buttresses American white supremacy.’

A University of Rhode Island (URI) professor published a book chapter in September focused entirely on New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and his supposed relationship to white supremacy.

URI English professor Kyle Kusz also dabbles in gender and race theory, as evidenced in a chapter, a full copy of which was obtained by Campus Reform, that the professor authored in a recently published book titled The Palgrave Handbook of Masculinity and Sport.

Titled “Making American White Men Great Again: Tom Brady, Donald Trump, and the Allure of White Male Omnipotence in Post-Obama America,” the chapter attempts to provide evidence to back up Kusz’s suggestion that, like President Donald Trump, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has gained popularity due to the “latest wave of white rage and white supremacy” that he says developed since the Obama presidency alongside a “disturbing racial reaction among white conservatives in response to the idea that a black man would be [president].”

In addition to Brady’s representation as the epitome of “omnipotent, white masculinity” in his various media appearances, advertisements, and movie cameos, Kusz also focuses on Brady’s public image as it relates to what he calls “American myths of meritocracy and individualism,” which he says are “commonly used in sporting adverts.”

Among other media appearances, he specifically cites Brady’s appearance in a 2015 Under Armour commercial, which he claims “would not seem out of place in Leni Reifenstahl’s infamous Nazi propaganda film, ‘Triumph des willens,’” because of its military references and red and black colors.

Kusz told Campus Reform that it was this commercial that drove him to investigate Brady’s whiteness further.

Hey, you know who were the original environmentalists…? And you know who supports “Earth Hour”…? Wake up, sheeple!

ROGER SIMON ON PEGGY NOONAN’S READING COMPREHENSION PROBLEM (Updated):

What follows is NOT the column I originally wrote and appeared on PJ Media for a few minutes and simultaneously went out in a group email.  I was alerted to a substantial error in my text thanks to the kind offices of Eugene Volokh.  In that column I excoriated Peggy Noonan for misreading the Trump-Zelensky transcript.  I was wrong. I had misread it.  I had written that Zelensky first brought up Biden in the phone call when it was the reverse.   Zelensky brought up Giuliani, which then led Trump to bring up Biden.  Originally the president had been talking about what I am almost certain was his greatest interest, the CrowdStrike company (of which more in a moment).

In making this mistake, I inadvertently proved, or at least demonstrated, the accusation I had leveled at Ms. Noonan, that we all see what we want to see.  I sincerely apologize to her.

Nevertheless, I still adamantly disagree with her column–“Democrats Set a Bear Trap”–and find it to be tendentious middle-of-the-road claptrap, excusing a movement to impeach a president for no reason other than Trump-hatred and a deranged lust for power on the part of Democrats and their media allies.

Read the whole thing.
