NEW JERSEY: “U-Haul full of guns and bomb-making materials, they get cornered by the cops, and their first response is to shoot the cop, then drive to the nearest Kosher supermarket, popping a Hasidic pedestrian along the way, and run in and start shooting Jewish shoppers? This pretty much narrows it down to Jihadis or Nazis and, frankly, if it were Nazis, their names and faces would be all over the news while the talking heads wrung their hands about the dangers of white supremacy. So if I were going to place a bet right now…”

I DON’T KNOW WHO DECIDED THAT SLEEP-DEPRIVED MEDICAL STAFF WERE A GOOD IDEA: Sleepy nurses could affect patient care. Personally, I want everyone who’s taking care of me to be rested and refreshed.

DON SURBER: Peggy Noonan struggles with reality.

What struck her is no one is talking about the impeachment.

She wrote, “On my way to Waterloo I realized: We’re about to have the third impeachment of a president in American history, and the day it happens it’s not going to be Topic A in America. It will barely be mentioned at the dinner table. It is a coastal elite story, not a mainland story.”

Why would people in Iowa care? Impeachment is an elitist wet dream to turn the clock back to 2016. Hillary came so close. So close, and yet so far away.

People move on.

Heh. All the most sophisticated people were so eager to move on from impeachment in 1998, they even created an organization with that name.

I MEAN, IT’S NOT LIKE BERNIE HIRED PROMINENT ANTISEMITE LINDA SARSOUR AS A CAMPAIGN SURROGATE OR ANYTHING! OH, WAIT. And can’t Bernie’s speechwriter be more… articulate? [UPDATE: Turns out this is the same guy who waxed poetic a few years back about Venezuela’s “economic miracle.”]

AND YOU THOUGHT THE SCIENCE WAS SETTLED: “The ongoing debate about postmenopausal hormone therapy and breast cancer risk may have turned even more muddy: A large, new study suggests that two different types of hormone therapy have opposite effects on women’s long-term risk of the disease. The researchers found that combined hormone replacement therapy — with estrogen and progestin — increases the risk of breast cancer, with effects that last for years after women discontinue the therapy. On the other hand, women who take estrogen alone appear to have an equally long-lasting decrease in their breast cancer risk.”

What I find interesting is that there’s far more expressed concern about the side effects of hormone therapy — for both men and women — that’s designed to help them feel normal, but virtually none about the much less natural doses of hormones used in sex transition treatments.

DAME MARY BARRACO:  A heroine has died at age 96 in Virginia Beach.  May the heavens receive her joyfully.

ALL THIS AND WORLD WAR II: Old and Busted: Can Greeks Become Germans? (As asked by Thomas Friedman when, “unexpectedly,” Greece needed a major financial bailout in 2011.)

The New Hotness, via WaPo? Analysis: If Britain had Germany’s electoral system, Boris Johnson may have lost the election.

I’m pretty sure that the period of 1939 through 1945, which the Times’ Paul Krugman defines as the economic “miracle of the 1940s,” and the EU as “the European Civil War,” helped to ensure that Britain avoided having Germany’s electoral system.

ROD DREHER: Why Boris Won — And How the GOP Might:

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I have no idea why the Republicans are so damned silent on wokeness, including the transgender madness. No doubt about it, the American people have accepted gay marriage and gay rights, broadly. But the Left will not accept this victory in the culture war. They cannot help bouncing the rubble, and driving people farther than they are willing to go, or that they should have to go. It’s the elites — and not just academic elites. Every week I get at least two e-mails from readers sending me examples of transgender wokeness taking over their professions — especially big business. People hate this pronoun crap, but nobody dares to speak out against it, because they are afraid of being doxxed, cancelled, or at least marginalized in the workplace. Surely there is a big common-sense vote to be energized here. Boris Johnson is not a cultural conservative in any meaningful sense that I can see, but he’s not that lunatic Jo Swinson, and he’s not like these militant cultural Jacobins of the left-liberal elites that despise as bigots anyone and everyone who doesn’t affirm their rancid orthodoxies, and who want to persecute all dissenters.
