THAT’S DIFFERENT, BECAUSE SHUT UP:

Remember, in the WaPo’s world only the “far right” cares about brown people being murdered in church on Easter Sunday.

UPDATE: Arthur Chrenkoff:

This effort to use language as a cudgel has several sinister implications. It delegitimises perfectly normal political ideas through guilt by association. It also creates the impression that the (genuine) far right is much bigger, more influential and more threatening and dangerous than it actually is. This in turn is used to downplay and minimise the dangers of Islamist and far-left extremism and terrorism. But perhaps the scariest aspect of it all is that the left, by manufacturing the far right monster, are actually genuinely contributing to the growth of far-right extremism. The relentless flood of identity politics, grievance and victimhood, and shaming and guilting entire sections of population based on their skin colour and culture is genuinely radicalising some misfits into fascism, like the Christchurch terrorist, for example. For every action there is eventually an equal and opposite reaction. The left might think it’s courageously defanging the fascist dragon but instead it’s just sowing its teeth.

It’s more than that. When you call perfectly reasonable things — like being upset over an Easter church massacre — “far right,” you convince people that “far right” maybe isn’t so bad.

HOW MUELLER AND THE DEMOCRATS GAVE RUSSIA WHAT IT WANTED: “What could possibly sow discord in the U.S. political system more than suggesting the president broke the law and stole an election by treacherously teaming up with a hostile foreign power? This was the essence of the charge made by former F.B.I. director James Comey, former CIA Director James Brennan, and their subordinates using the scandalous Steele dossier. This incredibly corrosive tale converted what were run-of-the-mill hacking and public relations operations, similar to those undertaken by many other nations—including the United States—into an act of war.”

HMM: A Mystery Agent Is Doxing Iran’s Hackers and Dumping Their Code.

Since March 25, a Telegram channel called Read My Lips or Lab Dookhtegan—which translates from Farsi as “sewn lips”—has been systematically spilling the secrets of a hacker group known as APT34 or OilRig, which researchers have long believed to be working in service of the Iranian government. So far, the leaker or leakers have published a collection of the hackers’ tools, evidence of their intrusion points for 66 victim organizations across the world, the IP addresses of servers used by Iranian intelligence, and even the identities and photographs of alleged hackers working with the OilRig group.

“We are exposing here the cyber tools (APT34 / OILRIG) that the ruthless Iranian Ministry of Intelligence has been using against Iran’s neighboring countries, including names of the cruel managers, and information about the activities and the goals of these cyber-attacks,” read the original message posted to Telegram by the hackers in late March. “We hope that other Iranian citizens will act for exposing this regime’s real ugly face!”

ONLY IF IT LOOKS LIKE THEY’LL WIN: Will 2020 Democrats Spook The Stock Market? “‘Political risk’ used to be something American investors worried about in connection with foreign countries.”

CORN, POPPED: Ocasio-Cortez targeted by mystery multimillionaire donor.

Just three months after taking office, the Democratic socialist congresswoman’s challengers include an Egyptian American journalist, who has already tossed her hat in the ring, and an NYPD cop-turned-high school civics teacher and conservative talk radio producer, both of whom are seriously exploring a run against her.

And the fledgling challengers could get help from a wealthy New Yorker committed to backing an Ocasio-Cortez opponent, a GOP big said.

“There’s definitely national energy and money on this race,” Bronx Republican chairman Mike Rendino told The Post, adding that he has been in touch with a mega-bucks donor hell-bent on getting AOC tossed.

Rendino wouldn’t divulge the donor’s name but said the individual is “worth over $200 million, plus [has] connections to raise money in Manhattan.”

Tom Doherty, a former deputy to former Gov. George Pataki, said a Republican challenger to AOC would be able to “raise real national money.”

The real fun will be seeing if she gets primaried.

OUR ARROGANT, INCOMPETENT RULING CLASS: The Mueller Report Exposes the Absurdity of the Governing Class: Despite decades of egregious errors, a group of “leaders” remains steadfastly in place, waiting to take charge again.

Plus:

Now let’s think about part one of the Mueller report: the finding of no collusion. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Zero. It was all a hoax — paid in part by the Hillary Clinton campaign. And yet . . . and yet! A vast concatenation of journalists, public officials, and public intellectuals have been screeching from the top of their lungs for more than two years about the dire threat to the republic. They even managed to jawbone the tech companies into restricting speech on social-media sites to combat this insidious threat.

Have they ever been more wrong?

Why yes! Yes they have!

The Russia hoax was only the latest in a long chain of grievous errors. In the past 20 years, the number of times that our civic betters have royally screwed up is astounding. They missed 9/11. They wrongly thought Saddam Hussein had chemical weapons. They didn’t see that Iraq was sliding into chaos by late 2005. They allowed Julian Assange, Chelsea Manning, and Edward Snowden to steal our secrets. They didn’t see the 2008–09 economic crisis coming until it hit them square in the jaw. They missed how a vast array of government policies and decisions contributed to it. They told us that the stimulus would reduce unemployment. They assured us that if we liked our health care we could keep it. They couldn’t even get a website running. They let Libya and Syria fall into chaos.

That works out to be about one massive screw-up every 20 or so months. That is insane. The array of mistakes is bipartisan, and it has been committed collectively by journalists, bureaucrats, and public intellectuals. There is one, abiding constant: The people tasked with the day-to-day management and oversight of our government have an arrogance-to-excellence ratio that is shockingly high.

Yes.

WHAT COULD GO WRONG? Dallas DA says he won’t prosecute ‘low-level’ crimes like theft and felony drug possession.

Creuzot, a Democrat, has angered local and state officials, and importantly police unions, with his decree that his office will no longer be prosecuting what he has non-technically referred to as “low-level” crimes. As a recent Dallas Morning News op-ed put it, “shook” the people tasked with law enforcement and government. Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say he has them “shook.”

The new agenda for the new district attorney is, he says, aimed at ending “mass incarceration” and jail time for “technical” violations which aren’t a threat to public safety. That includes a lot drug offenses, and although his letter informing the county residents of his overall plan was only published a week ago, he’s already dismissed more than 1,000 drug possession cases since taking office this year.

I’m all in favor of decriminalizing drug use, but refusing the prosecute theft seems like a very bad idea.

HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE UPDATE: An Idea for Student Loans: Get Rid of Them. Student loans aren’t a subsidy for students. They’re a subsidy to the academic class, and mostly to administrators.

ON THIS DAY IN 2014: The Supreme Court decided the absurdly named Schuette v. Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action, Integration, and Immigrant Rights and Fight for Equality By Any Means Necessary. In it, the Court held that it’s not unconstitutional for Michigan voters to prohibit the State of Michigan from engaging in race discrimination. Yes, it took the Supreme Court to decide that.

FLORIDA BUNNY: “Video of an Easter bunny brawl in Orlando is going viral. It is not known who was inside the big, white bunny suit but he looks hopping mad as he is seen in the video throwing several punches at a guy in downtown Orlando near Tier nightclub Sunday night. An Orlando police officer eventually stepped in to break up the fight.”
