ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: Earth Could Be Crushed to The Size of a Soccer Field by Particle Accelerator Experiments, Says Astronomer.

In his 2018 book, called On The Future: Prospects for Humanity, he gives some pretty bleak outlooks.

“Maybe a black hole could form, and then suck in everything around it,” he writes, as Sarah Knapton reported over at the Telegraph. “The second scary possibility is that the quarks would reassemble themselves into compressed objects called strangelets.”

“That in itself would be harmless. However under some hypotheses a strangelet could, by contagion, convert anything else it encounters into a new form of matter, transforming the entire earth in a hyperdense sphere about one hundred metres across.”

That’s approximately 330 feet, or around the length of a soccer field.

And that’s not all. The third way that particle accelerators could destroy the Earth, according to Reese, is by a “catastrophe that engulfs space itself”.

“Empty space – what physicists call the vacuum – is more than just nothingness. It is the arena for everything that happens. It has, latent in it, all the forces and particles that govern the physical world. The present vacuum could be fragile and unstable.”

“Some have speculated that the concentrated energy created when particles crash together could trigger a ‘phase transition’ that would rip the fabric of space. This would be a cosmic calamity not just a terrestrial one.”

I’m expecting an Earth-shattering Cosmos-shattering kaboom.

JEFF DUNETZ: On Holocaust Remembrance Day ‘Never Forget’ Is Being Forgotten.

In most of the world, “Never Forget” was a nice but meaningless thing to say, along the lines of, “Genocide is bad, mmkay?” To the Israeli Defense Force, it means, “You’ve got to come through us,” and they take it with deadly seriousness.

IS THERE ANYTHING IT CAN’T DO? Coffee promotes DNA repair, which may be why it extends life.

Also, caffeine is a weak, nonspecific phosphodiesterase inhibitor. PDE5 inhibitors, like Viagra and Cialis, seem likely to have significant life-extension and anti-cancer properties. There are a lot of other PDE receptors whose function we don’t really know, though PDE4 inhibitors are now used to fight inflammatory diseases. And PDE inhibitors are being looked at for numerous other ailments.

So it’s possible that some of the mechanism is here, too. I’d like to see more research.

ONLINE PLATFORMS FACT-CHECKING FAIL …AGAIN: Facebook has on at least three separate occasions tried and utterly failed to “manage” or “verify” news sites posted to their platform. They tried algorithms and that was a disaster.  Then they hired a crew of Social Justice Warriors — not one with any journalism experience — and that was a train wreck. Then, with the advice of an expensive PR firm they hired failed network “journalist” Campbell Brown to manage “news partnerships.”

Now Breitbart is reporting yet another swing and a miss, this time it’s Google:

NewsGuard, which is the establishment media’s latest effort to blacklist alternative media sites, is giving its sign of approval to proven hoaxes, even to stories that have been retracted […] here is NewsGuard’s seal of approval (on the Google search page) for Rolling Stone’s 2014 hoax about a gang rape at the University of Virginia (UVA).

Needless to say, that story was not only proven false, but the reporter was found to have acted with actual malice resulting in a multi-million dollar judgment against the magazine. Worse yet, they are still giving a green check to the discredited BuzzFeed story about what Michael Cohen told Mueller.

They’ll never learn, will they?

DEVIN NUNES (R-CA): ‘THE PROCESS OF DISCOVERY IS GOING TO BE FASCINATING’ IN ROGER STONE CASE. “’I think the Mueller investigation is really at the bottom of the barrel when they’re looking at people like this because we already found in our report that Roger Stone wasn’t colluding with the Russians, which, that was the original intent of all this, remember?’ Nunes, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo.”

THE MARKETING GENIUS BEHIND STARBUCKS’ “RACE TOGETHER” CAMPAIGN WANTS TO BE YOUR PRESIDENT: Democrats figure that if he runs it will take away votes from their candidate.

IT’S A GOOD THING I DON’T LIVE IN CHICAGO ANYMORE:  Brrrrrrrrrrrr.

CAN A NEW MODEL OF APPRENTICESHIPS SAVE CALIFORNIA?: Well … I’d be very happy if all 50 states could dramatically increase the number of opportunities for apprenticeships. There are certainly many skills that are better taught on the job than in the classroom, and there are many young people who prefer on-the-job learning to classroom learning. But it may be tougher to implement than some people realize.

THE SPIRIT OF TEXAS: The B-2 bomber Spirit of Texas prepares for a training mission at at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. Photo taken Jan. 17, 2019. The name is on the wheel house. I had to enlarge the photo to see it, but the StrategyPage.com webmaster is right. It’s a stealth bomber so they hide the name.

WELL, GOOD: Saudi’s Falih sees no impact on oil markets from Venezuela turmoil.

This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. American frackers have been more than taking up the slack created by Venezuela’s plummeting production, and Venezuela’s OPEC partners are increasingly hungry for market share.

VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: Attack Of The Techno Lynch Mob. “The Covington Lie offered the perfect occasion for the electronic mob to pounce—after temporarily licking its wounds following the BuzzFeed fake news hysteria. And it did so without shame or even much regret after the fact, as Jason Leopold, the BuzzFeed fabulist, ceded center stage to a kindred serial prevaricator, Nathan Phillips. The latter in his 15 minutes of fame did not make a major statement that was not contradicted by an earlier statement or by the facts. The entire psychodrama boiled down not to what the facts on the ground showed, but rather who each party was perceived innately to be.”

Lefties prefer to operate on terms of who’s a good or bad person because those are easier to manipulate than facts.
