ROGER KIMBALL: A fresh assassination of Brett Kavanaugh’s character. Shame, shame on The New York Times and its sweaty minions for abetting the revival of this grotesque calumny:

Since we’re walking down memory lane by looking back at the disgusting effort to destroy Brett Kavanaugh, it is worth reminding ourselves about what was at stake in that perverted effort to weaponize the nomination process for partisan ends. Kavanaugh himself summarized it eloquently. Dismissing as groundless ‘smears’ the cornucopia of allegations that had been fabricated like little ju ju dolls to destroy him, he went on to note that such evidence-free allegations not only ‘debase our public discourse,’

‘they are also a threat to any man or woman who wishes to serve our country. Such grotesque and obvious character assassination — if allowed to succeed — will dissuade competent and good people of all political persuasions from service. As I told the committee during my hearing, a federal judge must be independent, not swayed by public or political pressure. That is the kind of judge I will always be. I will not be intimidated into withdrawing from this process. The coordinated effort to destroy my good name will not drive me out. The vile threats of violence against my family will not drive me out. The last-minute character assassination will not succeed.’

God bless Brett Kavanaugh. And shame, shame on The New York Times and its sweaty minions for abetting the revival of this grotesque calumny.

As libertarian Twitter user Neontaster notes today, “This is why they ran the story on a Saturday night. Fewer people will stick around to see how quickly it fell apart.” Read the whole thing.

THE CLIMATE-CHANGE DEPRESSIVES:

Some on the left are so convinced by claims of flood, drought, and fire that they now deem the problem unsolvable. Of course, if all the doomsday tales were actually true, then these climate-change depressives would be dead right. Lucky for all of us, they’ve merely been taken in by a publicity campaign gone wild.

A recent article in the Washington Post by Chris Mooney and John Muysken also suggests we’re past the point of no return: “Numerous locations around the globe…have warmed by at least 2 degrees Celsius over the past century,” Mooney and Muysken write. “That’s a number that scientists and policymakers have identified as a red line if the planet is to avoid catastrophic and irreversible consequences. But in regions large and small, that point has already been reached.”

At the Week, Noah Millman offered “4 inconvenient truths about climate change. Number 4 is a doozy: “It’s already too late to prevent climate change.”

Apparently, Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang agrees. “This is going to be a tough truth, but we are too late,” he said during CNN’s climate town hall. “We need to do everything we can to start moving the climate in the right direction, but we also need to start moving our people to higher ground.”

Curiously, former President Obama didn’t get that message: Obama Blows $15 Million on Mansion Doomed by Rising Tides He Failed to Slow.

THEY’RE COMING FOR THE KIDS:

Seldom do I read a piece about the state of education in this country without remarking to myself and my husband how glad I am to be homeschooling. There’s a remarkable piece in The Atlantic by George Packer this month about one father’s journey through New York City’s public schools that made me do it again. What’s remarkable is how clearly the author illustrates how everyone in the public school system in New York, from teachers up to the Mayor himself, have made a conscious decision to sacrifice education on the altar of Progressivism…Now in my early 30s, the most jarring thing as a parent has been to witness how mainstream that education has become, to see how many of my radical classmates became teachers themselves. This isn’t just a problem for New York City’s teachers; it is endemic across the education system. After college, graduate school and paying union dues, it’s the rare teacher who comes out without a heavy dose of indoctrination. Even among my classmates from the rural Upstate New York town I spent most of my childhood in, the teachers emerged speaking fluent Woke Progressive.

Besides, as the friendly totalitarians at Comcast/NBC tell us, your kids aren’t your own:

SKYNET SMILES: How drones are dramatically changing warfare. The attack on Saudi Arabia’s oil facility that Glenn linked to yesterday is a reminder that “Within a very few years, every vulnerable public building, sports stadium or city center will have to install some kind of drone defense,” James Adams writes at Spectator USA.

Adams notes that Heathrow Airport dodged a protest by radical environmentalists intending to disrupt the airport via a massed drone strike “because Heathrow – unlike the Saudis – has installed a sophisticated jamming system that is specifically designed to prevent drones flying inside a five kilometer exclusion zone. Such jammers are part of a huge new industry that has grown up with, on the one hand, enthusiasts able to buy drones in any electronics store and the defense industry selling systems to prevent drones flying over vulnerable targets around the world.”

Read the whole thing.

SO I FINALLY READ GEORGE PACKER’S ATLANTIC PIECE, When the Culture War Comes for the Kids. Two points: (1) The underlying problem here regarding his “meritocracy” complaints is that the New York public schools, under Democrats for decades, suck, and they suck more under DeBlasio and his “woke” schools director; and (2) Despite his reflexive passing slaps at Trump, the wokescold mobs who started ruining his experience in 2013 are the reason Trump got elected. Want more Trump? This is how you get more Trump.

UPDATE: I initially had this as “Greg Packer’s piece,” which is just proof that that guy can slip into any place, even my subconscious.

NEW YORK TIMES PUBLISHES NEW UNCORROBORATED ALLEGATION AGAINST BRETT KAVANAUGH BY FORMER CLASSMATE.

There’s also a crucial bit of information in the book not included in the article, “The book notes, quietly, that the woman Max Stier named as having been supposedly victimized by Kavanaugh and friends denies any memory of the alleged event. Seems, I don’t know, significant.”

So, Max Stier named the alleged victim of the incident, but she denies the story. Wow. Why are we even talking about this?

Exit question from Sean Davis of the Federalist: “Is that the same Max Stier who was one of Clinton’s defense attorneys? Yes, yes it is.”

YOU’RE GONNA NEED A BIGGER BLOG: American Jews Are in Total Denial about the Democratic Party.

Although as Dennis Prager wrote years ago, “Despite their secularism, Jews may be the most religious ethnic group in the world. The problem is that their religion is rarely Judaism; rather it is every ‘ism’ of the Left. These include liberalism, socialism, feminism, Marxism and environmentalism. Jews involved in these movements believe in them with the same ideological fervor and same suspension of critical reason with which many religious people believe in their religion. It is therefore usually as hard to shake a liberal Jew’s belief in the Left and in the Democratic Party as it is to shake an evangelical Christian’s belief in Christianity. The big difference, however, is that the Christian believer acknowledges his Christianity is a belief, whereas the believer in liberalism views his belief as entirely the product of rational inquiry.”
