QUESTION ASKED AND ANSWERED BY DENNIS PRAGER: Why aren’t most American Jews troubled by the Times’ cartoon?

Why were all American Jews horrified by the anti-Semitic shootings at the California synagogue this past weekend, while most barely had their feathers ruffled by the anti-Semitic cartoon in one of the most influential media in America?

The answer is most American Jews, while ethnically Jewish, are ethically leftist. And ethics trump ethnicity — as they should. For most American Jews, therefore, the Times is far more consonant with their ethical values than are Jewish values (if, by Jewish values, we are talking about the Torah and traditional Jewish religious/moral teachings). So, then, when you combine hatred of the right-wing prime minister of Israel and reverence for the left-wing Times, even a Nazi-like cartoon — if it negatively depicts Benjamin Netanyahu and Donald Trump and is published in The New York Times — is no big deal.

Why, it’s as if “leftism is, in essence, a religion into itself.”

MEANWHILE, COEDS AND FEMALE FACULTY WEAR PUSSYHATS WITH IMPUNITY: Virginia Tech on the hunt for campus penis artists. “A torrent of penis drawings in different locations across the Virginia Tech campus last fall drew numerous bias complaints from students, leaving university administrators grappling for answers as to whether the university had been targeted by a penis-drawing bandit.”

The bias is in treating penis drawings as a species of hate, while exalting pussyhats and Vagina Monologues. Seems like a Title IX violation to me. And I’m glad to see that the male students at Virginia Tech have started fighting back by filing complaints of their own:

When a male student told a female student that the “Reagan-Bush ‘84” T-shirt he was wearing was not “sarcastic,” she yelled “fuck you!” at him. The reporting student, perhaps tongue-in-cheek, suggested this was a slander against his “gender expression, gender identity, race, religion, ethnic origin,” and “color.”

More like this, please. Make the enemy live up to his her own book of rules.

WHAT THEY SAY WHEN THEY THINK NOBODY IS WATCHING: Training sessions for campaign workers and political activists are excellent advance indicators of where their leaders hope to take the rest of us. So a recent poll by the National Democratic Training Academy run by AFSCME and others deserves attention.

Among the multiple candidates included in the poll? Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton, Patrick Howley of Big League Politics reports. And a separate poll by the same group says “we’re polling Top Democrats from your area to determine possible support for a Hillary Clinton 2020 Presidential Ticket.”

KIMBERLEY STRASSEL: For Fear Of William Barr: The attorney general gets attacked because his probe endangers many powerful people.

These attacks aren’t about special counsel Robert Mueller, his report or even the surreal debate over Mr. Barr’s first letter describing the report. The attorney general delivered the transparency Democrats demanded: He quickly released a lightly redacted report, which portrayed the president in a negative light. What do Democrats have to object to?

Some of this is frustration. Democrats foolishly invested two years of political capital in the idea that Mr. Mueller would prove President Trump had colluded with Russia, and Mr. Mueller left them empty-handed. Some of it is personal. Democrats resent that Mr. Barr won’t cower or apologize for doing his job. Some is bitterness that Mr. Barr is performing like a real attorney general, making the call against obstruction-of-justice charges rather than sitting back and letting Democrats have their fun with Mr. Mueller’s obstruction innuendo.

But most of it is likely fear. Mr. Barr made real news in that Senate hearing, and while the press didn’t notice, Democrats did. The attorney general said he’d already assigned people at the Justice Department to assist his investigation of the origins of the Trump-Russia probe. He said his review would be far-reaching—that he was obtaining details from congressional investigations, from the ongoing probe by the department’s inspector general, Michael Horowitz, and even from Mr. Mueller’s work. Mr. Barr said the investigation wouldn’t focus only on the fall 2016 justifications for secret surveillance warrants against Trump team members but would go back months earlier.

He also said he’d focus on the infamous “dossier” concocted by opposition-research firm Fusion GPS and British former spy Christopher Steele, on which the FBI relied so heavily in its probe. Mr. Barr acknowledged his concern that the dossier itself could be Russian disinformation, a possibility he described as not “entirely speculative.” He also revealed that the department has “multiple criminal leak investigations under way” into the disclosure of classified details about the Trump-Russia investigation.

Do not underestimate how many powerful people in Washington have something to lose from Mr. Barr’s probe. Among them: Former and current leaders of the law-enforcement and intelligence communities. The Democratic Party pooh-bahs who paid a foreign national (Mr. Steele) to collect information from Russians and deliver it to the FBI. The government officials who misused their positions to target a presidential campaign. The leakers. The media. More than reputations are at risk. Revelations could lead to lawsuits, formal disciplinary actions, lost jobs, even criminal prosecution.

Well, we can hope.

THE DEMOLITION DERBY:

What do you know but the infraction that cost Maximum Security the Roses at Churchill Downs was “obstruction.” It took the Internet about a nanosecond to start metaphoring it to the 2016 election and related controversies. “Country Horse won the popular vote,” is the way Josh Baro put it in a tweet. If America ran its elections the way the Derby is run, Hillary Clinton would be declared president. Another reason we’re sticking with Maximum Security.

JUSTICE THOMAS’S MOMENT MAY HAVE FINALLY ARRIVED. “Thomas, for the first time, is on a court where there are at least four votes for some “pretty radical” decisions, said political science professor Corey Robin, the author of a Thomas book due out in September. Robin says the question will be whether the court’s more conservative justices — Thomas, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Samuel Alito — can get Chief Justice John Roberts, a more moderate conservative, to go along.”
