HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE UPDATE: Enrollment Shortfalls Spread to More Colleges.
A broad swath of private colleges across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic regions are expected to miss their enrollment goals for the fall semester. That growing trend now includes some institutions that have rarely, if ever, had to worry about filling classes.
Bucknell University, for example, expects that its freshman class this fall will be about 2 percent smaller than planned, or a total of roughly 960 students, said William T. Conley, its vice president for enrollment management. . . .
“I do get the sense that more than a handful of highly selective colleges missed their enrollment targets this year,” said Robert Massa, who still talks with enrollment professionals across the country after a 45-year career in financial aid and admissions. He retired from Drew University in February.
Ithaca College, which enrolls nearly 5,500 undergraduates, is larger and less selective than Bucknell, admitting about 70 percent of its undergraduate applicants. But the college, in upstate New York, will have some 175 fewer freshmen and $4.6 million less in tuition revenue than planned, said its president, Shirley M. Collado.
Several other college officials and higher-education consultants confirmed that they are seeing enrollment problems at numerous institutions.
The reasons for the enrollment shortfalls, said Massa and others, are complex and tied to several factors. Those include the declining number of high-school students across the regions, families’ increasing sensitivity to tuition and other costs, questions about the overall value of a college degree, and the ease with which students can apply to and consider multiple colleges.
If only there had been some sort of warning. It’s telling, though, that the idea of increasing sensitivity to costs, and of questions about the value of a college degree, now get matter-of-fact treatment, where these ideas were controversial not long ago.

WHY IS BURGER KING POLITICIZING THEIR BRAND? Farage Fallout: Burger King UK Accused of Promoting Political Violence in Scotland With Tweets Promoting “Fun” Milkshakes.
As a result of past incidents of this nature, authorities in Edinburgh asked a local McDonald’s not to sell milkshakes this past Friday ahead of a planned Farage event:
Police ordered a McDonald’s in Scotland to stop selling milkshakes over fears people would dunk them over Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage, staff said, after a flurry of incidents have left prominent far-right activists doused in the creamy liquid.
Farage, the leader of the Brexit Party, was holding an event in Edinburgh on Friday ahead of next week’s European elections.
But police were concerned that protesters would buy milkshakes from a McDonald’s a few hundred meters away with the intention of pouring them on the hardline Brexiteer’s head.In response, Burger King UK tweeted this out, prompting some to suggest they were encouraging the milkshakers:
They tried to walk this back in a subsequent tweet claiming, “We’d never endorse violence — or wasting our delicious milkshakes!” But they are encouraging violence. As Jim Treacher writes, “Lefties Sure Do Love Political Violence.”
FASTER, PLEASE: Mark Meadows Says ‘Declassification is right around the corner.’
Republican Congressman and House Oversight Committee Member Mark Meadows there will be more information showing that President Trump was set up by senior officials with the FBI and DOJ. He made the comments Monday on “Fox & Friends,” adding that the declassification of documents will reveal it.
Meadows cited instances where members of the Trump campaign were taped and recorded. He specifically referred to former Trump Campaign Advisor George Papadopoulos. Papadopoulos has been vocal about being set up by the FBI.
Moreover, the North Carolina Congressman explained that ‘the American people will be astonished’ when Trump declassifies more information. For example, the classified FISA interviews, Bruce Ohr 302 FBI interviews and the so called “Gang of Eight” binder.
Former House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy said Sunday, the new information could reveal “game-changer” evidence further disproving the collusion narrative.
Meadows said he is confident the President will act soon.
Yesterday would not be too soon.

LIZ SHELD’S MORNING BRIEF: Rep. Doug Collins Dumps Testimony Transcripts.
Last night, Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) released a boatload of closed-door testimony transcripts.
“The American people deserve transparency,” Collins said in a statement Monday. “They deserve to know what transpired in the highest levels of the FBI at the origin of the probe of President Trump’s campaign.”
“Out of an abundance of caution, these transcripts have a limited number of narrowly tailored redactions, relating only to confidential sources and methods, non-public information about ongoing investigations and non-material personal information,” Collins said.

WILLIAMS COLLEGE STUDENTS PUT DAVID IRVING TO SHAME: Holocaust Revisionism at Williams College. Williams students are quoted as claiming that the Palestinians are facing worse oppression than Jews during the Holocaust, because “unlike the seemingly unending Israeli occupation of the West Bank, ‘the purpose of these [World War II] ghettos were basically to control, segregate, and separate the Jewish people for short periods of time.'” Apparently, having even a modicum of knowledge of twentieth century history, or the ability to put current events in a reasonable context, are not prerequisites for admission this “elite” college.

IT’S COME TO THIS: Former associate White House counsel Ian Bassin suggests that people harass a law firm’s clients because a partner at the law firm is zealously protecting client confidentiality. CONTAINMENT: US fighter jets just landed in Sweden to practice fighting in a new kind of airspace.
The looming proliferation of air defense systems, including sales of the Russian-made S-300 and S-400, means that allied pilots must prepare for the possibility of fighting in future airspaces unlike anything they faced in the permissive environments of Afghanistan and Iraq.
Airmen and F-16C Fighting Falcons from the 157th Fighter Squadron out of McEntire Joint National Guard Base, Columbia, South Carolina, arrived in the region Thursday for the first day of Arctic Challenge Exercise 19 taking place throughout Norway, Sweden and Finland.
“There’s some unique training airspace we don’t get to train with in South Carolina. Being just 50 miles south of the Arctic Circle, the high latitude means nearly 20 hours of daylight. That together with the cool weather, will set us up for some essential training.” said Maj. Shaun Hoeltje, an F-16 pilot from the South Carolina Air National Guard, in an Air Forces Europe news release.
