THE PRESS WAS ALWAYS CAREFUL TO DESCRIBE TEA PARTY RALLIES AS “OVERWHELMINGLY WHITE,” BUT NEVER DOES THAT WITH THE CLIMATE RALLIES THAT ARE FAR LESS DIVERSE: The Unbearable Whiteness Of Climate Protest.

For white progressives, climate change is a unique issue in which racial guilt plays little to no role. Other issues such as police brutality, income inequality, and even women’s rights and access to abortion are steeped in what they perceive as the racist foundation of our country. On these issues, white protesters in the post-Occupy age feel they bear no small amount of collective guilt. But on climate change, for once, they can be the victim, not just the ally.

And man, are they enjoying it. This is the moment for angry, young white people not only to be angry, but to actually be oppressed. It is their own future that they believe is being stripped from them by failure to accept that if we don’t act in the next eight minutes, all is lost. It is their lives that amorphous and evil global corporate and government powers are endangering.

Finally, they can express righteous indignation not just in support of the rights and lives of others, but to protect themselves. It is their Malcolm X in blue jeans moment, a thrilling opportunity to stick it to the man, whoever that might be. The poster child is not a murdered black youth, but a young girl from Sweden astride a solar-powered boat defending the future of lily-white protesters everywhere.

You have fun kids. Then go get jobs and worry about something important.

ILHAN OMAR STORMS AWAY FROM KID OVER CONVERSATION ABOUT TOLERANCE, ACCORDING TO PARENT:

According to Rachel Campos-Duffy, who has guest-hosted shows as disparate as ABC’s “The View” and Fox News’ “Outnumbered,” last week her children went to the Capitol to vote with their father, Congressman Sean Duffy (R-WI). One of their daughters, Lucia, spotted Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and recognizing who she was, asked to take a picture, triggering an alleged ill-behaved reaction from Omar when Lucia confronted Omar’s lack of tolerance.

Campos-Duffy wrote on Facebook:

In DC today & the kids went to the Capitol building to vote with their Dad. Walking back from voting, my daughter, Lucia, spots Rep. Ilan Omar. She recognized her from a Maroon 5 “Girls Like You” music video & kindly asked to take a picture with her. Here’s how it went down:
Lucia: May I take a picture with you?
Omar: Are you sure your parents are OK with that?
Rachel: Yes, we’re very tolerant people.
Omar: You should be accepting, not tolerant.
Rachel: Right back at you!
Omar storms off. So much for Lucia’s very genuine attempt at bipartisan fan girling over Maroon 5….

Rather unexpectedly* despite being a representative (literally and figuratively) of the Party of Tolerance and Acceptance, neither of those states seem very high on Omar’s list of aspirations.

* In the Bloomberg Business definition of the word, of course.

HMM: Are a Disproportionate Number of Federal Judges Former Government Advocates?

It has been said that the surest way to become a federal judge is to first be a prosecutor. And it is generally perceived that a disproportionate number of federal judges served as government lawyers before donning a robe. Until now, however, no one had ever examined the professional background of every sitting federal judge to see whether that perception is true. So Cato’s Project on Criminal Justice devised a methodology for coding judges’ prior professional experiences and went through the federal judiciary judge by judge to test that perception.

What we found confirms the conventional wisdom: Former government lawyers—and more specifically, lawyers whose formative professional experiences include serving as courtroom advocates for government—are vastly overrepresented on the federal bench. Looking only at former prosecutors versus former criminal defense attorneys (including public defenders), the ratio is four to one. Expanding the parameters to include judges who previously served as courtroom advocates for government in civil cases as well as criminal cases, and comparing that to judges who served as advocates for individuals against government in civil or criminal cases, the ratio is seven to one. As explained below, the disproportion is both striking and concerning

It is. I have some related thoughts in my The Judiciary’s Class War.

LADIES, GENTLEMEN, SMALL BASHFUL DRAGONS, THIS WILL END BADLY. I MEAN, REALLY REALLY BADLY: Going (pro)rogue.

FOR ONE JOSHUA WONG FACES UP TO CHINA. POOR INDOCTRINATED GRETA IS SHOUTING AT THE WOKE IN THE WEST. WHO ALREADY LOVE HER:  Why Greta Thunberg is No Joshua Wong.
