BYRON YORK: 7 points on the anonymous New York Times ‘resistance’ op-ed.

1) It concedes Trump’s accomplishments are big. Early in the piece, the author admits that the Trump administration has had significant success on the issues most important to American voters. . . .

2) Its complaints are small. Why does the author object to Trump? The president is not a true philosophical conservative, he says.

3) It suggests there is a government conspiracy to thwart the president.

So the anonymous writer is Donald Trump?

OPEN THREAD: Display your creativity and insight.

YEAH, PRETTY MUCH:

And while not all the blame falls on Harry Reid, it’s amazing just how much of it does.

BE NOT AFRAID: I’ve written before about how jihadists and anti-Semites have mastered the PR game and co-opted the alleged intelligentsia of Oxbridge and the extreme US left.

But take heart: an Op/Ed in yesterday’s WSJ points out that smugness, a false sense of superiority and a compliant liberal press are all they have. The facts speak for themselves:

In 2012 [Corbyn] approved of a mural that grotesquely depicted Jewish bankers, and he did not reverse himself until earlier this year…In 2012 he appeared on Iranian television to celebrate the release of Palestinian terrorists by Israel in a painful prisoner exchange with Hamas. He referred to the returning convicts as “brothers.”

And most sickening of all:

In 2014 he laid a wreath at the graves of terrorists involved in the murder of Israeli athletes at the Munich Summer Olympics in 1972.

You know, I’m not a Trump guy, but you’ll see no pictures of him hugging an avowed segregationist.

**CORRECTION: last line changed to more accurately describe Strom Thurmond’s legislative history***

TO BOLDLY GO WHERE NO GOY HAS GONE BEFORE! Over at Ed Driscoll.com on the PJ mothership, I have a lengthy review of film scholar Nathan Abrams’ new book, Stanley Kubrick: New York Jewish Intellectual.

(Sorry to mix sci-fi metaphors with the headline.)

CLOSING IN: Prosecutors use grand jury as investigation of Andrew McCabe intensifies.

Federal prosecutors have for months been using a grand jury to investigate former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe — an indication the probe into whether he misled officials exploring his role in a controversial media disclosure has intensified, two people familiar with the matter said.

The grand jury has summoned more than one witness, the people said, and the case is ongoing. The people declined to identify those who had been called to testify. . . .

The investigation into McCabe is as politically charged as they come, and a decision to prosecute him — or not — will draw significant criticism either way.

McCabe — who briefly took command of the FBI after James B. Comey was fired last year — has been a frequent target of criticism from President Trump. His comments, sometimes urging McCabe be investigated, have offered significant support for McCabe’s argument that he is being treated unfairly and the examination of him is tainted by partisanship.

The special counsel’s office, though, has charged several former Trump campaign officials for allegedly misleading investigators examining Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. If the Justice Department were to decline to take up the case against the FBI’s former No. 2 official, that could fuel outrage from conservatives who feel federal law enforcement has been unfairly aggressive toward their party. Using a grand jury could give federal prosecutors some political cover to argue they pursued the case using the most forceful tools available to them and still came up empty-handed.

The ass-covering angle to this story is strong.

MEH. IT’S ONLY NOTEWORTHY WHEN REPUBLICANS HAVE TIES TO EXTREMISTS. Democrat hit for teaching at ‘terror high’ that graduated would be Bush assassin. “A Democrat running against a key House Republican is getting socked for teaching at an Islamic school dubbed ‘terror high’ for producing potential attackers including a valedictorian jailed for plotting to assassinate former President George W. Bush. In a new TV ad being released Thursday, Virginia Democrat Abigail Spanberger is accused of looking the other way at the Saudi-funded school while she ‘cashed her paychecks like nothing was wrong.'”

THIS IS STARTING TO BE A SERIOUS ISSUE: What Happens If We Reach Sperm Count Zero?

Last summer a group of researchers from Hebrew University and Mount Sinai medical school published a study showing that sperm counts in the U.S., Europe, Australia, and New Zealand have fallen by more than 50 percent over the past four decades. (They judged data from the rest of the world to be insufficient to draw conclusions from, but there are studies suggesting that the trend could be worldwide.) That is to say: We are producing half the sperm our grandfathers did. We are half as fertile.

The Hebrew University/Mount Sinai paper was a meta-analysis by a team of epidemiologists, clinicians, and researchers that culled data from 185 studies, which examined semen from almost 43,000 men. It showed that the human race is apparently on a trend line toward becoming unable to reproduce itself. Sperm counts went from 99 million sperm per milliliter of semen in 1973 to 47 million per milliliter in 2011, and the decline has been accelerating. Would 40 more years—or fewer—bring us all the way to zero? . . .

Testosterone levels have also dropped precipitously, with effects beginning in utero and extending into adulthood. One of the most significant markers of an organism’s sex is something called anogenital distance (AGD)—the measurement between the anus and the genitals. Male AGD is typically twice the length of female, a much more dramatic difference than height or weight or musculature. Lower testosterone leads to a shorter AGD, and a measurement lower than the median correlates to a man being seven times as likely to be subfertile and gives him a greater likelihood of having undescended testicles, testicular tumors, and a smaller penis. “What you are seeing in a number of systems, other developmental systems, is that the sex differences are shrinking,” Swan told me. Men are producing less sperm. They’re also becoming less male.

The thing that I’ve noticed is that you see more 20- and 30-something guys with feminine fat-distribution. Not the frat-guy John Belushi beer belly, but kind of an overall softness. I’ve wondered for a while if that indicates something hormonal is going on.

WHOA: TWITTER HAS BANNED ALEX JONES AND INFOWARS — PERMANENTLY.

Although as Harry Khachatrian of the Daily Wire tweets, “Twitter just permanently banned Alex Jones and InfoWars for ‘violating its abusive behaviour policy’ — Louis Farrakhan and Hamas still have twitter accounts.”

DOUBLE WHAMMY: A few weeks ago I posted about New York City small business owner Eli Amsel, whose business was under threat from minimum wage laws. Now he is facing an even more existential threat to his plastic bag business thanks to a “who has the bigger Green credentials” fight between Andrew Cuomo and Cynthia Nixon. My colleague Angela Logomasini has the full story here.

SEEN ON FACEBOOK: “President Trump’s unemployment rate is so low, even Colin Kaepernick found a job!”

RIP: Burt Reynolds has died at the age of 82 following a heart attack.

So many enjoyable movies, but it isn’t difficult to pick a favorite. And the best part of Smokey and the Bandit is that it expressed Americanness joyously and unapologetically, and Burt’s charming insouciance was a big part of that.
