HMM: September U.S. Auto Sales Expected To Collapse.

Jeremy Acevedo, Edmunds’ manager of industry analysis, stated: “Vehicle replacement demand following Hurricane Harvey bolstered auto sales last September, and Hurricane Florence has had a very limited impact on auto sales this month, which are the primary reasons why we’re seeing this year-over-year decline. With that said, a SAAR of 17 million is certainly not an unhealthy number — September is still shaping up to be a robust month for sales.”

As is often the case, the story isn’t nearly as bad as the headline promises.

WHEN THE LEFT IS CAUGHT WITH ITS HAND IN THE COOKIE JAR, IT DEFAULTS TO “YOU SOUND ANGRY.” HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE HEARD THIS TONE POLICING?  MSNBC Legal Analyst: Kavanaugh’s Opening Statement Was ‘Kind of Scary,’ a ‘Temper Tantrum’.  Next they’re going to tell us to “educate ourselves.  Look, it’s not that the left is malicious — though they are — or that they’re enamored of political solutions that fill mass graves — though they are — it’s that, somehow, SOMEHOW they manage to make these things sound boring.

OKAY, BUT WHY WAS SHE THERE TO TESTIFY AT ALL? THERE IS ZERO PROOF OF HER STORY.  IN THE ABSENCE OF PROOF, SHE’S AT BEST A DELUSIONAL WOMAN. WE DON’T HAVE TO LISTEN TO EVERY DELUSIONAL WOMAN, DO WE? ALSO, LET’S IMAGINE THAT EVERYTHING SHE SAYS IS TRUE. WHAT HAPPENED? SHE GOT FELT UP.  STILL NOT A CRIME.  SHUT UP CHRISSY AND GO HOME ALREADY:  5 Big Problems with Christine Blasey Ford’s Testimony at the Kavanaugh Hearings.

CONFIRM BRETT KAVANAUGH: The Judge rightly called out the politics of ‘search and destroy.’

She still can’t recall the home where the assault took place, how she got there or how she got home that evening. She has no witnesses who say she told them about the alleged assault at the time—until she first spoke of it at a couples therapy session 30 years later in 2012. Mr. Kavanaugh’s name doesn’t appear in the notes of her therapist.

As for Judge Kavanaugh, his self-defense was as powerful and emotional as the moment demanded. If he was angry at times, imagine how you would feel if you were so accused and were innocent as he says he is. To deny the allegations as he did—invoking his children and parents and so many others who know him—and be lying would mean that he is a sociopath. If he were found to be lying, he would be impeached and probably prosecuted. Nothing in his long record in public life betrays the kind of behavior he is accused of against women.

Had he not been as forceful, his opponents would have said he looked guilty. Because he called the Democrats out for their character assassination, the critics now say he lacks the right temperament. The truth is that there is no answer, and no demeanor, that Brett Kavanaugh could offer that the left would credit. Their goal isn’t the truth. They want to destroy Judge Kavanaugh.

Senate Republicans should understand that these are the real political stakes. This nomination isn’t only about the fate of a single man whose reputation can be discarded like some tabloid celebrity. This is about the future of the Supreme Court and who will control the Senate. If Republicans reject Mr. Kavanaugh based on what we know now, millions of voters will rightly be furious.

But as important, a rejection will bring dishonor to the Senate. It will validate the ambush and smear politics that Democrats are using. And it will turn Supreme Court nominations over to the justice of the social-media mob and the politics of accusation. It’s time for Senators to stand up and confirm Brett Kavanaugh.

According to a tweet by CNN’s Phil Mattingly, “Plan is for the Judiciary Committee to vote tomorrow. Motion to proceed on the Senate floor on Saturday at noon, per senators leaving the meeting.”

DON’T COUNT YOUR VOTES UNTIL THEY’RE CAST, BUT GOOD: Breaking: We Have The Votes. “All the Republicans are voting yes. Also, in the rumor mill, several Democrats may break ranks and back Kavanaugh. That’s the ball game, folks.”

DAVID HARSANYI: Kavanaugh, Ford, emotion — and evidence.

A friend on Facebook — who’s anti-Kavanaugh for Fourth Amendment reasons — observes that the witch-trial today was so outrageous that it even got Lindsey Graham to side with the Republicans.

HEH:

Had he received a normal confirmation, I suspect Kavanaugh would have been a bit of an establishment squish. I rather doubt that he’ll be that now.
