ANY WEAPON TO HAND: New York Times Targets Brett Kavanaugh’s Wife. “When Stephen Breyer, Ruth Ginsburg, Sonia Sotamayor and Elena Kagan were appointed to the Court, did the Times, or the Associated Press, try to investigate documents sent or received by their family members?” Of course not, because shut up.

OUCH:

OPEN THREAD: Play nice.

THIS ISN’T THE REGTECH I WAS PROMISED: Anti-smoking activists *hate* vaping, despite the demonstrable reduction in harm thanks to the technology (my wife gave up smoking cigarettes thanks to vaping). There has been an aggressive astroturf campaign aimed at the FDA in favor of anti-vaping regulations – and by astroturf I mean “submitting 255,000 fake comments from a single Internet bot.”

My colleague Michelle Minton has written a bunch on vaping and its role in harm reduction.

WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE, BRITAIN? Authorities force Uyghur butchers to use chained-knives. “Having already instituted an Orwellian policy of marking new knives with QR tracking codes in an effort to thwart knife attacks by Uyghur separatists, Chinese authorities are taking a low-tech approach as well. They are chaining knives to workstations in the butcher-shops in at least one market in the Xinjiang Province.”

Weird that this is happening in both Britain and China. What could the common factor be?

UH OH: Erectile Dysfunction Drug Trial Involving Pregnant Women Stopped After 11 Newborns Die. “The Dutch study was examining the possible benefits of the medication, which increases blood flow, on improving the growth of fetuses in mothers with poorly developed placentas, Reuters reports. But the drug may have resulted in lethal damage to the babies’ lungs. . . . Among the treatment group, 17 babies developed lung conditions that reportedly caused high blood pressure in the lungs and may have been the result of reduced oxygen levels. Eleven of these newborns died. In the control group, three newborns developed lung conditions, and none died.”
