‘VIVA LE RESISTANCE’: Mueller Team Attorney Sent Anti-Trump Texts.

The attorney’s messages show that he was distressed at the FBI’s decision in October 2016 to re-open the investigation into Clinton’s emails. Democrats have claimed that decision hurt Clinton at the polls.

The FBI lawyer also suggested that he would work to resist the Trump administration.

“Is it making you rethink your commitment to the Trump administration?” one FBI lawyer wrote on Nov. 22, 2016.

“Hell no. Viva le resistance,” the future Mueller attorney responded.

“THERE’S F—ING NO ONE ELSE:” Dems say Obama return from sidelines is overdue.

The desire among Democrats for Obama to take a more leading role in the midterm fight and party building in general is just getting stronger, particularly with the lack of alternatives.

“There’s f—ing no one else,” one frustrated Democratic strategist said. “Bill Clinton is toxic, [former President] Carter is too old, and there’s no one else around for miles.”

How did that happen?

MORE NEWS FROM CAYMAN: The water, by the way, was cooler than usual — a temperature of 80-82 degrees, where usually this time of year it would be more like 84. I was actually kinda cold at times, and couldn’t figure out why, until Nat Robb’s lovely Finnish assistant Aria pointed out that my wetsuit was kind of hanging on me, and thus not insulating very well. (She’s from Finland, but is very into warm wetsuits — “I hate to be cold,” she says. “Why do you think I left Finland for the tropics?”) Time to go down a size, I guess. I was actually more comfortable in a 1 mil “tropical” wetsuit that fit than a 3/2 that didn’t. And apparently global warming isn’t striking Cayman.

There’s an awful lot of development on Cayman, and I’m not crazy about it. I want the Caymanians to make a good living, but the amount of new construction is freakishly huge. There was a real inflection point after Hurricane Ivan, when lots of small, old buildings were washed away, and the government was desperate for capital infusions and allowed them to be replaced with much bigger new buildings. I guess if it gets too busy for me, I can always head over to the Brac.

Plus: “One concern is that PrEP does not protect against other sexually transmitted infections. As use of the pill spreads, some clinicians are detecting more cases of diseases such as gonorrhea, as well as drug resistance to them, according to Dr. Paul Volberding, the director of the AIDS Research Institute at the University of California, San Francisco.”

What’s amazing about this column is that Bruni understands exactly how we’ll get more Trump, but remains clueless as to how we got any Trump in the first place.

Plus: “Former Assistant Attorney General Peter Kadzik Should Have Recused. While Hillary was under investigation, Kadzik tried to get his son a job on Hillary’s campaign. He also sent an email to John Podesta, head of the Clinton campaign, which included the schedule of the release of Clinton’s emails in FOIA litigation.”

And note this, which is prosecutable as bribery, because. . . it’s bribery: “FBI Employees Leaked To The Press Regularly. According to the IG report, “We identified numerous FBI employees, at all levels of the organization and with no official reason to be in contact with the media, who were nevertheless in frequent contact with reporters.” FBI agents received ‘benefits from reporters’ as well, including golf outings, drinks and meals.”

CAYMAN LIONFISH REPORT: I’ve talked about eating invasive species before, and it seems to be working. I tried to get lionfish at a couple of places that had them on the menu, but they were out. Our waitress at the Saltwater Grille told me that they’ve been hunted to the point that they’ve become downright scarce. There’s one restaurant that always has them, but it’s way on the East End. I only saw a couple on the whole trip, and they were hiding out in swim-throughs and tunnels. Word is that they’re more plentiful when you get down below recreational-diver depths, but this still means that the better parts of the reef ecosystem are being protected.

NO “OBAMA KENNELS” FOUND BY MSNBC REPORTER (AND EVEN DURING THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION, CONDITIONS WEREN’T SO BAD): As Glenn noted earlier today, MSNBC reporter Jacob Soboroff didn’t find any “Obama kennels” on his visit to the children’s shelter in Brownsville. That’s consistent with what the US Comm’n on Civil Rights saw (but failed to write about) when it toured actual detention facilities during the Obama Administration. In my personal statement to the report, I pointed out that the Commission’s majority had anticipated finding “egregious human rights and constitutional violations.” But as far as I could see, it hadn’t found them. I wrote:

[A] funny thing happened on the way to exposing “egregious human rights and constitutional violations.” The detention centers weren’t nearly as bad as we had been led to believe. Indeed, the Karnes facility was surprisingly attractive for a detention center.

Some of our Commission members and staff appeared to be quite surprised at the quality of treatment they saw. When we were led to a room at the Karnes facility that contained rows and rows of brand new brand-name clothing and told that new arrivals were permitted to select six outfits for themselves and each of their children, the looks on the faces of my colleagues were of astonishment. Questions were asked: “These clothes aren’t new, are they?” Yes, they are new, the tour guide explained. “I guess they are donated, right?” No, the tour guide replied, they are purchased by GEO (the private company that owns and manages the Karnes facility in cooperation with ICE).

The detention facility I’m referring to was for “families” (which means mothers and their minor children). But there are only so many beds in those facilities. When they fill up, other arrangements have to be made.

What I hope my fellow Commissioners got from this (although I’m not sure they did) was not to believe everything they hear about “egregious human rights violations” at immigration facilities. For example, the Commission heard testimony that the food at one of the facilities was full of maggots. But the evidence (as discussed in my Statement) made this highly unlikely.
