THE MASSES NEVER FAIL TO DISAPPOINT THEIR BETTERS: WaPo, NYT Lament Auto Workers Blaming GM—Not Trump—For Layoffs. “Nearly identical articles from the New York Times and Washington Post this week lamented the idea that auto workers blamed General Motors for its factory closures rather than President Donald Trump. . . . Both outlets spoke with members of the Ohio community hurt by the news of G.M.’s decision to close its Lordstown factory, and the findings were similar: People think G.M. would have moved operations out of the region no matter what Trump did and largely credit him for putting up a fight for their community. They appreciate his efforts to help their industry and see G.M. as the culprit. The sentiment appears to have shocked the reporters, who traveled to Ohio because the plant closure had the potential to be a ‘political challenge for Trump.’ The Post expressed frustration that Trump ‘seems able to promise the world yet suffers little damage from supporters when he fails to deliver.'”

PATRIK JONSSON: Is it safe for a black man to be the ‘good guy with a gun’?
On Thanksgiving night, a shooter opened fire at the Riverchase Galleria mall in Hoover, Ala. Police killed one man.
But as has become increasingly clear, Emantic “E.J.” Bradford Jr. was one of the good guys.
The military veteran and legal gun carrier from Hueytown, Ala., was likely killed while trying to protect his fellow citizens, according to eyewitness reports. And for that, his family says, he died ignominiously. Police arrested the alleged shooter Thursday. . . .
The killing of Mr. Bradford is not a stand-alone example. Three days before his death, a young man named Jemel Roberson was buried in Illinois. An aspiring police officer and legal gun-carrier, Mr. Roberson singlehandedly apprehended a mass shooter at Manny’s Blue Room bar in Robbins, where Roberson worked as a security guard. A Midlothian police officer responded, and shot and killed Roberson. In June, Navy veteran Jason Washington was shot and killed by Portland State University police in Oregon, after reportedly trying to stop a fight outside a bar. Witnesses say Washington was trying to de-escalate the situation, including confiscating his friend’s gun. He had a pistol permit. A grand jury declined to indict the two officers involved.
Cops are too trigger-happy, thanks in part to training that treats officer lives as more valuable than anyone else’s. That sort of training brings stereotypes into play. Police need to be better trained — and when they get it wrong, they need to be held accountable, just as an ordinary armed citizen who made the same mistake would be.

NO ONE CAN RESIST US SWEET, SEXY HOMO SAPIENS: Neanderthals and Humans Were Hooking Up Way More Than Anyone Thought.
Way more sex happened between Neanderthals and the ancestors of modern humans across Europe and Asia than scientists originally thought, a new study finds.
Scientists initially thought that interbreeding among the two groups was more isolated to a particular place and time — specifically, when they encountered each other in western Eurasia shortly after modern humans left Africa. This idea stemmed from the fact that the genomes of modern humans from outside Africa are only about 2 percent Neanderthal, on average.
Subsequent research, however, has found that Neanderthal ancestry is 12 to 20 percent higher in modern East Asians compared to modern Europeans. . . .
This scenario of multiple episodes of interbreeding between modern humans and Neanderthals fits in with the emerging view that various human lineages had complex and frequent interactions. For example, recent work found the mysterious human lineage known as the Denisovans apparently contributed to the modern human gene pool at least twice, leaving behind two distinct genetic component — one mostly in Papuan and Australian aboriginal populations, the other primarily in East Asian populations.
“Complex and frequent interactions.” Yeah, baby, do it again!

NO VIOLENT CRIMINALS IN THE MIGRANT CARAVAN? GUESS AGAIN: Critics continually scoff at President Donald Trump’s claim that hundreds of violent criminals are among the estimated 8,500 migrants in the latest caravan, the advance elements of which are in Tijuana, Mexico.
Well, Trump critics, meet 46-year-old Miguel Angel Ramirez, fresh out of a Honduran prison where he served 10 years for homicide and three for robbery. Ramirez was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents late in the evening of November 24, along with two other younger men, after the trio illegally crossed the border from Tijuana, according to LifeZette.
“For those of you who criticized DHS warnings and have inaccurately portrayed the caravan as only innocent asylum seekers, we hope that your reporting reflects these facts moving forward,” Department of Homeland Security Press Secretary Tyler Houlton told journalists in announcing Ramirez’ arrest Friday. I hope he’s not holding his breath.
