ANALYSIS: TRUE. Dear America: Your News Media Absolutely Hates You.

Recall the quote from Daniel Patrick Moynihan while Ambassador to the United Nations: “Am I embarrassed to speak for a less than perfect democracy? Not one bit. Find me a better one. Do I suppose there are societies which are free of sin? No, I don’t. Do I think ours is, on balance, incomparably the most hopeful set of human relations the world has? Yes, I do. Have we done obscene things? Yes, we have. How did our people learn about them? They learned about them in the newspapers.” And that is important.

But we cannot say these things when the American media, time and again, illustrates its utter hatred for the nation and its people in those newspapers and on television. Having judged the American project kaput after the election of Donald Trump, they are now stooping to the level of defending the North Koreans – perhaps the most brutal and heinous regime in the world today – thanks to some side-eye from its minister of propaganda, the sister of Kim Jong Un.

Read the whole, damning thing.

MORE LEFTIST HATE, FUELED BY DEMOCRATS’ EXTREMIST VIOLENT RHETORIC: Donald Trump Jr’s wife Vanessa hospitalized after opening letter with white powder inside. “Donald Trump Jr’s wife Vanessa Trump was hospitalized Monday morning after opening a letter with an unidentified white powder inside. The former model, 40, was at her apartment at 405 East 54th street around 10am when she opened the letter and started coughing and feeling nauseous. A source with direct knowledge of the incident told DailyMail.com that the letter was addressed to Donald Jr. but sent to his in-laws’. . . . The incident recalled the scary days after 9/11 when letters containing lethal anthrax spores were sent to the offices of several politicians and media outlets — resulting in five deaths.” She seems to be fine now, but still.

AT AMAZON, save on Flashlights. You can never have too many. A lantern or two is nice to have as well, for power outages.

PUT THE POM-POMS DOWN AND START ACTING LIKE REPORTERS: The commitment to principles over “motives” or “cui bono” is writ large here, and Judicial Watch — generally considered a “right-leaning” outfit — deserves credit for filing this FOIA suit.

Judicial Watch, a local legal watchdog organization, announced Feb. 9 that it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for Secret Service travel-expense records related to expenses incurred protecting President Trump and his family while they traveled between June and October 2017

If only more journalists put their pom-poms down and remembered their mission is to “seek truth and report it” without regard to who it “helps” or “hurts.”

JOSH BLACKMAN on the Judicial Resistance. “The consequence of this jurisprudence is that in effect, President Trump is disabled from exercising his own constitutional authority because of the circumstances in which he became president. If taken to its logical extreme, the president is now disabled from taking any actions that bear on Muslims, Hispanics, Africans, the LGBT community and countless other demographics he has displayed animus towards. That cannot be the rule of law.”

No, and it’s not meant to be. But it means that the judiciary will be, in fact, much less able to restrain Trump — or another president — who chooses simply to ignore it, because it won’t be able to call on a well of general support that transcends narrow partisan politics. Like so many institutions under Trump, the judiciary is squandering its institutional credibility for narrow, and ultimately not very important, partisan gains. And it’s doing that, at bottom, because it just can’t help itself.

Part of this, of course, is that the judiciary, regardless of political party, comes from the social class most horrified by Trump, and by Trump’s voters. Which calls for judicial reform, to address this serious lack of diversity.

MICHAEL WALSH ON SILICON VALLEY: Time to Break Up the Big Four. “Over the past decade, Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google—or, as I call them, ‘the Four’—have aggregated more economic value and influence than nearly any other commercial entity in history. Together, they have a market capitalization of $2.8 trillion (the GDP of France), a staggering 24 percent share of the S&P 500 Top 50, close to the value of every stock traded on the Nasdaq in 2001.” I’m more concerned with their spying and their political influence.

DANGEROUS JOBS: US commandos searching Syria for executed hostages’ remains.

Three officials briefed on the ground searches by U.S. commandos — the first real effort to recover the remains of two American journalists and two American humanitarian aid workers killed from 2014 to 2015 — said they were undertaken on the basis of new intelligence from two ISIS members from London captured last month by Syrian Kurds.

“Intel people are digging hard and directing ground guys to locations,” a counterterrorism official who is not authorized to speak publicly told ABC News.

Two other counterterrorism officials confirmed to ABC News that ground searches have begun and suggested the efforts are limited so far but could be expanded. The remains are believed to be spread out over several sites.

A really dangerous job: It’s Hard to Believe, but Syria’s War Is Getting Even Worse.
