MAKING BABIES FROM SCRATCH: “Now, not only do males seem expendable, females, at least living females, could one day be expendable too.”

TEST DRIVE: 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. “‘Speed kills’ is an old trope trotted out by those well-meaning souls who probably haven’t ever actually gone fast. It’s a dictum intended to guilt drivers into socially responsible behavior. We went 183.3 mph in Chevy’s new Corvette ZR1 at the Texas Mile. Not once did we feel guilty.”

755 horsepower. We do live in a golden age of muscle.

LOUIS FARRAKHAN IS BIGOTED SLEAZE, SO TRUMP FANS CERTAINLY SHOULDN’T BRAG ABOUT THIS, But nonetheless, the fact that he’s saying positive things about Trump is terrible news for the Democrats, who can’t afford even modest defections among black voters.

UPDATE: Ouch.

EVERGREEN:

GOOD ADVICE: Study: Leave tablets, smartphones out of bedroom for better sleep. I think it’s best to keep them on charge as much as possible when you don’t actually have to use them. And I’ve had a mini-vacation this weekend, as the touchscreen failed suddenly on my iPhone X. Apple was quite handsome in honoring the warranty (it’s only a couple of months old) but “overnighting” a new phone on the holiday weekend means I won’t actually get it until tomorrow. And you know, I don’t miss it all that much . . . .

YES: Is Shingles Contagious?

Shingles, the painful and blistery rash that arises when the chickenpox virus becomes reactivated, can be contagious, but only for people who are not already immune to chickenpox. Those who have never had chickenpox or been vaccinated against it are at risk for developing chickenpox — not shingles — if they come in contact with fluid from the blisters of a shingles patient.

The blisters are contagious until they crust over, “and people should keep them covered,” said Dr. Pritish K. Tosh, an infectious disease specialist with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

He noted that it’s important to “make sure people who are at risk not come in contact with these lesions.” Those at risk include anyone who has never had chickenpox or has not yet been vaccinated. Special caution should be taken with pregnant women or those with a compromised immune system, who may not know whether they are immune to the disease.

I’m planning to get the new Shingles vaccine soon.

ANALYSIS: TRUE. Democrats’ Sudden Concern For Gas Prices Is A Dodge To Hide Their Anti-Wallet Policies.

Unfortunately for the left, it’s not hard to see what the party line was on gas prices back in the day. In 2008, before becoming Barack Obama’s Energy Secretary, Steven Chu said, “we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe,” which at the time was between $7 and $9 per gallon. The Obama Administration made pursuing high energy prices  their prime directive.

Flashbacks:

Obama goes full YOLO: Proposes raising gas prices in final budget.

● “In 2008, then-Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar — now the secretary of the Department of the Interior in charge of the leasing of federal oil lands — refused to vote for any new offshore drilling. In a Senate exchange with Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Salazar objected to allowing any drilling on America’s outer continental shelf — even if gas prices reached $10 a gallon. We can now see why the president appointed Salazar, inasmuch as Obama recently promised the Brazilians that he would be eager to buy their newfound offshore oil — while prohibiting similar such exploration here at home.”

NBC, the Washington Post, and the New York Times in lockstep call for higher gas taxes.

● 2008 L.A. Times headline: “The joy of $8 gas.”

● 2012 CNN headline: “Rising gas prices aren’t as bad as you think.”

Reid draws line against Keystone.

Exit quote: “Under my plan, energy costs will necessarily skyrocket…”

IS TODAY THE CLINTONS’ LAST PRE-INDICTMENT MEMORIAL DAY? Yes, there are grounds for skepticism about whether the Clintons will ever face the music, but, as Charles Ortel points out today in LifeZette, the evidence is rapidly becoming overwhelming.
