LATE-STAGE SOCIALISM: Venezuelan hospitals are even worse off than we knew, an independent poll shows.
Even providing basic services has become an insurmountable task, according to the poll, with doctors in 79 percent of hospitals saying water is frequently unavailable and in 96 percent saying their kitchens cannot adequately feed patients.
Crumbling hospitals have become frightful snapshots of Venezuela’s deepening economic crisis, with their nonfunctioning bathrooms, unlit halls, lack of instruments needed for all types of surgeries and a crippling scarcity of medicines to treat ailments from kidney disease to HIV. Even usable blood is hard to come by.
Doctors in more than 80 percent of the hospitals polled said their emergency rooms were experiencing intermittent failures. In 15 percent of hospitals, doctors said operating rooms weren’t functioning, and in 80 percent they said rooms were often inoperative.
Seventy-nine percent of hospitals said they lacked basic surgical supplies such as gauze, gloves and compresses, and 84 percent reported having no catheters and tubes.
Ninety-four percent reported a frequent absence of X-ray equipment; 86 percent said they often could not perform ultrasounds; 96 percent said they often couldn’t offer CT scans, and 100 percent said their laboratories were not fully functioning given the scarcity of reagents.

Yes, she basically called half the country racist. Yes, she basically characterized women who voted for Trump as thoughtless vacuums for their husband’s opinions rather than as actual human beings. But I’m still kind of shocked that the comments made the news. Why? Because she has said these things before; we already know that she thinks this way.
During the election, Clinton said that “half” of Donald Trump’s supporters belonged to a “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic . . . basket of deplorables.” In an interview with NPR last year, she talked about women being “under tremendous pressure from fathers and husbands and boyfriends and male employers not to vote for ‘the girl.’” Despite the breathless news coverage, these comments weren’t really news so much as they were what we already know.
After the comments received backlash, Clinton insisted that she “meant no disrespect” by her comments — but she’s lying. Disrespect is exactly what she meant.
Even Clinton’s sorry-not-sorry non-apologies drip with contempt.

HBO’S JOHN OLIVER OBLITERATES CHILDREN’S BOOK BENEFITING HUMAN TRAFFICKING VICTIMS:
Every Monday morning I am greeted with headlines that say John Oliver has eviscerated, owned, slammed, obliterated, and dunked on the latest villain, usually while saying “f—k.” That said, I cannot swear that the show is anything more than a nine-minute clip transmitted to clickbait sites on a weekly basis.
The most recent viral clip focused on the following horror of horrors: Mike Pence’s daughter has come out with a book about his rabbit, Marlon Bundo. Marlon Bundo’s A Day in the Life of the Vice President teaches children about the vice presidency. Proceeds go to a hospital art therapy program called Tracy’s Kids and an abolitionist and anti-human trafficking organization, A21.
Watching his segment, you can actually tell that Oliver at first struggled to explain why the book was worth attacking in the first place.

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS PLACE? BREAKING: Two Marjory Stoneman Douglas students arrested, Broward County deputy put on leave. “Two students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School have been arrested today for bringing weapons to school. A third student is being evaluated for making online threats. . . . On top of everything else, a Broward County deputy was placed on administrative leave for allegedly sleeping on the job.” He was supposed to be guarding the school.

TOOK ‘EM LONG ENOUGH: Minneapolis Officer Charged With Murder in Australian Woman’s Death. “The Minneapolis police officer who fatally shot an unarmed Australian woman last summer, an incident that led to protests and the ouster of the city’s police chief, was jailed Tuesday on charges of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. The shooting of the woman, Justine Damond, by Officer Mohamed Noor on July 15 renewed questions about police conduct and training in a region that has seen a series of police shootings in recent years.”
Of course, they charged the cop who shot Philando Castile, too, and it led to an inexplicable acquittal.

This is an election about whether the people of Pennsylvania hate blacks more than they hate women. And when I say people, I don’t mean people, I mean white men. How ironic is this?
