HOO BOY: DEMOCRATS’ ARIZONA SENATE NOMINEE CAUGHT ON TAPE BASHING…ARIZONA.

The “crazy” lines aren’t helpful, especially when she attributes her state’s supposed insanity to one factor: “They’re called Republicans,” eliciting laughter and applause from a leftist crowd.  Remember, she’s trying to run as a moderate, cross-partisan uniter.  Part of her potential victory coalition must include a chunk of Republican voters.  But the most brutal line is this one, delivered in an out-of-state speech to liberal activists:

“I want to talk to you about some of the things that I think that you can do to stop your state from becoming Arizona.”

Sinema is asking Arizonans to elect her to represent them. She thinks they’re crazy people and that other states should go out of their way to avoid being like her own constituents.

Last month CNN reported on the anti-war group* which Sinema co-founded in the early 2000s. The group promoted itself with flyers which depicted a U.S. soldier as a skeleton with a machine gun and which encouraged people to resist “U.S. terror in Iraq and the Middle East.” Sinema claimed she hadn’t drawn the flyers and didn’t approve them but another poster featuring a black tank with a US flag which read “STOP the OILigarchy” featured her personal email address as a point of contact.

Sinema is currently presenting herself as a centrist Democrat who often doesn’t side with the far left. This interview is from a month ago. Her pitch is that she’s running in a purple state and party labels don’t really matter to Arizonans. In other words, please don’t hold my party label against me.

HERSCHEL WALKER CALLS FOR CNN TO FIRE DON LEMON OVER ‘RACIST’ KANYE WEST CRITICISM.

Sellers’ remark prompted laughter from Lemon and fellow panelist Tara Setmayer, who followed up by saying West is “the token negro of the Trump administration.”

Walker, who has openly supported Trump, is also an outspoken advocate for mental health issues – which were also mocked during the segment. Walker took to Twitter to express his disbelief.

“Went to bed appalled over Don Lemon’s despicable behavior laughing at Tara Setmayer and Bakari Sellers’ awful remarks about Kanye West’s visit with [Trump]! Woke up wondering why CNN doesn’t take all three off the air?” Walker tweeted, adding the hashtag “#Shameful.”

Well, it’s not like Walker has worked with Trump on a day to day basis – oh, wait:

In this March 8, 1984, file photo, Donald Trump shakes hands with Herschel Walker in New York after agreement on a 4-year contract with the New Jersey Generals USFL football team. The New Jersey Generals have been largely forgotten, but Trump’s ownership of the team was formative in his evolution as a public figure and peerless self-publicist. With money and swagger, he led a shaky and relatively low-budget spring football league, the USFL, into a showdown with the NFL. (AP Photo and Caption.)

HERE’S THE CASE THAT COULD END ABORTION: There being nothing in the 1973 decision defining how an abortion must be performed, it seems logical to assume the newly installed conservative majority on the Supreme Court could find one of those constitutional “penumbra” thingies to do the job.

At least, that’s the view of the legal experts LifeZette’s Brendan Kirby talked to about a certain Alabama law — the Alabama Unborn Child Protection from Dismemberment Act of 2016 — that banned slicing the unborn child into pieces that are then suctioned out of the uterus.

Actually, they don’t talk about penumbras. They’re all about precedents and law stuff like that. I just said it because I thought it might be worth a chuckle. And we all need a chuckle in the morning these days, right?

MEMO TO CALIFORNIA GOP: VOTE SOCIALIST? “There has been speculation that Feinstein launched the late stunt on Kavanaugh because she was worried about losing to de Leon. It would be the height of irony if it was Republicans delivered a humiliating blow and ignominious end to her long career as a result of that bad faith act. I know it is an unnatural act for good California Republicans—all ten of us that are left—to vote for a socialist, but think about it. I doubt Chuck Schumer would really thrill to having Kevin de Leon in his caucus.”

And don’t miss the appearance by Hans Gruber at the end of Steve Hayward’s post.

UPDATE (FROM GLENN): I dunno, I considered recommending this but then remembered when the Germans put Lenin on the train to Moscow.

As Victor Davis Hanson noted in January of 2016:

A few hours before delivering that State of the Union, President Obama met with rapper Kendrick Lamar. Obama announced that Lamar’s hit “How Much a Dollar Cost” was his favorite song of 2015. The song comes from the album To Pimp a Butterfly; the album cover shows a crowd of young African-American men massed in front of the White House. In celebratory fashion, all are gripping champagne bottles and hundred-dollar bills; in front of them lies the corpse of a white judge, with two Xs drawn over his closed eyes. So why wouldn’t the president’s advisors at least have advised him that such a gratuitous White House sanction might be incongruous with a visual message of racial hatred? Was Obama seeking cultural authenticity, of the sort he seeks by wearing a T-shirt, with his baseball cap on backwards and thumb up?

To play the old “what if” game that is necessary in the bewildering age of Obama: what if President George W. Bush had invited to the White House a controversial country Western singer, known for using the f- and n- words liberally in his music and celebrating attacks on Bureau of Land Management officers?

Last year veteran libertarian-leaning blogger “Neontaster” tweeted:

Though I’m not sure if Kanye dropping the mf-word in the Oval Office trumps (sorry) supporting an artist featuring murder at the White House on his cover. Certainly, past occupants of the White House have uttered equally colorful language.

UPDATE: Kanye’s mf-bomb? “Close but no cigar compared to what Clinton did there,” Dana Loesch tweets.

ANTISOCIAL MEDIA: Teens Are Being Bullied ‘Constantly’ on Instagram.

While Millennials relied on Facebook to navigate high school and college, connect with friends, and express themselves online, Gen Z’s networks exist almost entirely on Instagram. According to a recent study by the Pew Research Center, 72 percent of teens use the platform, which now has more than 1 billion monthly users. Instagram allows teens to chat with people they know, meet new people, stay in touch with friends from camp or sports, and bond by sharing photos or having discussions.

But when those friendships go south, the app can become a portal of pain. According to a recent Pew survey, 59 percent of teens have been bullied online, and according to a 2017 survey conducted by Ditch the Label, a nonprofit anti-bullying group, more than one in five 12-to-20-year-olds experience bullying specifically on Instagram. “Instagram is a good place sometimes,” said Riley, a 14-year-old who, like most kids in this story, asked to be referred to by her first name only, “but there’s a lot of drama, bullying, and gossip to go along with it.”

As the parents of two Gen Z kids, my wife and my solution to this problem is in two parts. First, we’re trying to raise our boys to have earned self-esteem instead of this participation trophy attitude. And second, we just don’t allow them to have any social media accounts.

JIM TREACHER ON JOURNALISM: It’s Only an ‘Angry Mob’ if It’s Made Up of Republicans. “So far, nobody has been killed by the #Resistance. But not for lack of trying. Just ask Steve Scalise. Remember him? Remember when a Bernie Bro named James T. Hodgkinson tried to murder him and a bunch of other Republicans at their baseball practice? Remember how the media swept his name under the rug? Rand Paul remembers.”
