PRIVACY: You may soon have the right to know when you’ve been hacked.

Speaking at a panel hosted by the National Cyber Security Alliance, a public-private partnership for online security and privacy, the acting Federal Trade Commission Chairman Maureen Ohlhausen said legislation may soon be on the way. The FTC regulates businesses to protect consumers, and can penalize hacked companies under Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act — even though it wasn’t originally written for online issues — because it targets companies for “unfair or deceptive acts or practices.” Although 47 out of 50 U.S. states have their own data breach laws, no federal requirements exist.

“Congress, over the past several years, has been interested in having a national data security and breach notification law, and that is coming back of interest again,” Ohlhausen said. “That could be a very useful tool for the FTC, and has been supported by the FTC on a bipartisan basis for a number of years.”

Maybe the public should also have the right to know when our elected and cabinet-level officeholders have been hacked.

LIEL LEIBOVITZ: Tale of Trump Advisor’s Alleged Nazi Ties Unravels.

Where to begin? Even if you take the Nazis at their word—which is inadvisable, as I realized from the very first time I watched Casablanca at the age of 9—you’ll notice that Pintér isn’t saying that he’d witnessed Gorka’s swearing in; he’s merely saying that he’d met the man because he was an associate of Gorka’s father Paul, a renowned member of the nationalist anti-Communist resistance.

Gorka himself told me that the allegations are flat-out false.

“I have never been a member of the Vitez Rend. I have never taken an oath of loyalty to the Vitez Rend. Since childhood, I have occasionally worn my father’s medal and used the ‘v.’ initial to honor his struggle against totalitarianism.” It’s a perfectly plausible explanation, and you’d have to be of a very specific mindset to still pursue allegations of Nazi affiliation.

Why didn’t Gorka simply tell this to The Forward? A source close to the White House, who was briefed on how the administration treated this story, explained things a little more to me.

“These guys genuinely believed that the allegations were so blatantly false and so aggressively poorly-sourced, that no responsible journalist would ever publish them,” the source told me on the phone. “Is Seb Gorka, whose family literally bears the scars of anti-fascist fights, a secret Nazi cultist? Come on now.”

Fear not. We’ll have a new Literally Hitler before the weekend is over.

HOW TO TELL WHEN A REPUBLICAN IS IN THE WHITE HOUSE: Violent threats against the president are OK now?

Turn on TV or browse your newsfeeds on social media, and you will be bombarded with polemics about the sky falling and credible threats of violence against conservative figures.

The FBI investigated a threat to kill Milo Yiannoupolis for the audacity to want to speak on a college campus. Threats against former Labor Secretary nominee Andy Puzder’s wife caused him to withdraw himself from consideration. Multiple intimidatory remarks haunted members of the Trump-voting Electoral College. President Trump has been the target of declarations of violence on a near daily basis.

And yet, when it comes to this constant flow of threats, there seems to be little outrage from the nation’s leading journalists and pundits.

Social media shines almost every day with a new dimwitted threat against Trump and his presidency. “Comedienne” Sarah Silverman called for a military coup. Madonna told protesters she “thought” about blowing up the White House. Violence seems to break out every time a conservative comes to speak at a college campus. Rosie O’Donnell talks about “stopping” Trump on Twitter.

Snoop Dogg has done his best to get back on people’s radars since 1998 with his new music video in which he assassinates a clown dressed as Trump. Even if it was just a stunt by the 45-year-old rapper to stay relevant, it was still completely crass and unacceptable.

Leftists will miss civility when it’s gone. Related: Bow Wow tweets he wants to ‘pimp’ out Melania Trump over Snoop-Trump feud.

The rapper said in a since-deleted tweet Wednesday, “Ayo @realDonaldTrump shut your punk a– up talking s–t about my uncle @SnoopDogg before we pimp your wife and make her work for us.”

They told me if Donald Trump were elected, racism and misogyny would reign supreme. And they were right!

THE OPTICS ARE TERRIBLE: Okay, the wording is too, but they can’t help themselves, they’re CNN.  Image Problem.

IT WORKS ON FAT MICE; SURELY IT WILL WORK ON FAT PEOPLE:Your dreams of effort-free exercise are about to come true. (Note most of MY dreams about exercise involve sea-side walks, will which remain a dream unless California REALLY does slide into the sea as Paul Ehrlich “predicted” decades ago.  Fortunately his predictions about geology are as “good” as his predictions about human population growth or metal prices.)

PAUL MIRENGOFF: Hawaii judge’s ruling could lead to constitutional crisis. Plus: “By accepting the use of preelection statements to impeach and limit executive policy, the 9th Circuit is taking a dangerous step. The states’ argument is in essence that Trump is a bigot, and thus his winning presidential campaign in fact impeaches him from exercising key constitutional and statutory powers, such as administering the immigration laws.”

If campaign statements have judicial weight, can we file a petition for rehearing with the Supreme Court on the ObamaCare case, based on Obama’s (broken) promises about keeping your plan and lowering your premiums?
