CLIMATE DISASTER AVERTED: WORLD TO END FRIDAY DURING KATHY GRIFFIN PRESSER ON BEING BULLIED BY TRUMP FAMILY. “Attorney Lisa Bloom announced she’d be holding a press conference Friday morning with her client, comedian Kathy Griffin, to discuss her ‘controversial’ photo shoot with the president’s bloody severed head and the bullying she’s endured from the Trump family. And suddenly, the failure of the Sweet Meteor of Death to appear on Election Day made perfect sense; it was waiting for this very moment.”

Heh, indeed.®

21ST CENTURY RELATIONSHIPS: “Breadcrumbing.” “Breadcrumbing is one of the newest modern dating terms referring to when someone you’re interested in will flirt with you, especially through sporadic text messages, but has zero intention of starting any sort of relationship with you.”

AMERICAN LAW INSTITUTE REJECTS CAMPUS RAPE POLICIES AS A MODEL FOR REAL-WORLD RAPE LAWS:

An influential group of law professors has once again declined to recommend that state governments enact policies favoring accusers in sexual assault cases, changes that already have been adopted by many colleges and universities.

A proposal that would newly criminalize many sexual activities as assault was offered by two New York University professors at the American Law Institute’s annual conference in Washington last week.

This is the third year in a row that law professors Erin Murphy and Stephen Schulhofer introduced their proposal. Once again, they faced strong backlash as more than 100 opponents wrote a letter detailing their concerns, with several introducing motions to alter the language of the draft.

Little known outside the legal profession, ALI is a professional association of judges, lawyers and legal scholars that has shaped many laws in this country since it was founded in 1923.

Good. And if the ALI ever does propose something like that, friends of liberty should ensure that it no longer enjoys the kind of influence that it formerly did.

IT’S COME TO THIS: Newly Woke Artist Agrees To Burn Own Work:

Unbelievable. It’s hard for me to see the artistic merit in the thing — it’s nothing more than a scaffolding for a hanging, erected here as a political statement — but that is beside the point. The artist’s intent was to protest capital punishment by memorializing seven different hangings. The action by the Dakota [Indian] protesters goes beyond simply objecting to a work of art that they find offensive. What they’ve done here is to successfully intimidated a major museum and an artist into taking down and destroying a work of art that was created in sympathy with the Dakotas’ suffering.

Exit questions: “What does it mean to say that any story is not an artist’s to tell? Says who? How would art be possible if woke hecklers had a veto?”

NEW GOP TV AD FEATURES KATHY GRIFFIN:

Days after Kathy Griffin was fired from CNN’s New Years’ Eve show in the midst of backlash over posing in photos with a mask made up to look like the decapitated head of President Trump, the same photos appeared in a campaign ad created by a Republican super pac. The ad, which also includes behind-the-scenes footage of the Griffin photo shoot, attacks Georgia congressional candidate Democrat Jon Ossoff.

Yet another reason why, much to her initial surprise, Griffin’s fellow leftists were furious with her. While the DNC-MSM’s immediate response may be dismiss the story as “not worth doing,” videos and stills of Griffin holding the effigy of Trump’s severed head will be appearing in loads of GOP videos for both local and national races between now and November of 2020.

KURT SCHLICHTER: The Left Freaks Out As Everything It Tries Makes It Look Stupider.

Name one normal person who has watched the leftist freak out and said, “Yeah, I’m convinced. That severed Trump head Kathy Griffin is hauling around? Really makes you think.” It sure does – normal people think, “Thank you, Lord, for helping America dodge that drunken, malignant bullet the liberals fired at us.”

But then nothing the liberals have done since last November’s humiliation has sought to expand the Democrats’ constricted base to include us normals. Instead, everything they have done seems designed solely to appeal to the coastal snobs and welfare cheats who are already committed to liberal fascism, and to demonstrate to everyone else how right we were to reject that pant-suited Chavez wannbe.

When you watch what they’re doing in response to normal Americans standing up and asserting the right to govern ourselves, you see the progressives making the losers’ choice at every turn. From concocting elaborate Russian fantasies – I keep expecting someone to demand Trump make Moscow General Hospital release his original birth certificate – to applauding performance art designed to make regular people gag, they choose wrong. And we can safely point this out because they’re too smug and/or stupid to listen.

It does seem that way.

THIRST? What’s Fueling the US Whiskey Boom?

The craft beer movement is a major inspiration for the new wave of American whiskies. Sons of Liberty on Rhode Island make a whiskey using a dark toasty malt like you find in a stout. They’ve given it the none-more-American name of Uprising. Not to be outdone, Corsair make a Citra Double IPA whiskey that reeks of hops. It’s all about bringing out big flavors.

Whereas Scottish single malts tend to be aged for at least eight years (though legally only have to be aged for three) American whiskies age faster as the climate is hotter. Balcones Single Malt, winner of best American Single Malt at the World Whiskies Awards last year, is “yard-aged”- in other words left out in the baking heat of Texas where it matures extremely quickly.

One year in the heat of Texas equals about seven in rainy old Scotland. Quicker maturation time means American distillers can bring their products to market sooner therefore they are more responsive to trends.

Hot-aging feels almost like cheating, but I’m looking forward to sampling the results.

THE NEW YORK TIMES FIRES ITS PUBLIC EDITOR FOR RESISTING THE RESISTANCE: Liz Spayd “did her best to be even-handed in the eleven months she held the job,” Kyle Smith writes at NRO. “The angry Left could not forgive this:”

She noted, for instance, in an elementary insight, that a false statement, even one uttered by a person you hate, even a president you hate, is not automatically a “lie.” If you don’t know your false statement is false, it isn’t a lie, and journalists aren’t mind-readers. In a column entitled “Why Readers See the Times as Liberal,” she noted that many a liberal and centrist acolyte of the Times told her that they were seeking other outlets for balance. “A paper whose journalism appeals to only half the country has a dangerously severed public mission,” she said. That such a statement is now considered “controversial” does not reflect well on the media.

Of course, one reason why readers see the Times as “liberal” (read: leftist) is that its first Public Editor told them just that in 2004.

OUTRAGE OVER TRUMP’S CLIMATE DEAL WITHDRAWAL IS LIKE GROUNDHOG DAY:

Keep the pangs of outrage in perspective. We’ve seen this movie many times before. Republican president withdraws from cherished international agreement. Left goes into apoplexy. Rinse and repeat.

It’s like Groundhog Day.

The same thing happened when Bush withdrew the US signature from the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. The Guardian declared it would “provoke anger from the international community, and provide further evidence for what many see as the Bush administration’s increasing unilateralism.” Judge Richard Goldstone, the chief prosecutor at The Hague war crimes tribunal on the former Yugoslavia called it “unprecedented” and “a very backwards step” that “smacks of pettiness” adding, “The US have really isolated themselves and are putting themselves into bed with the likes of China, the Yemen and other undemocratic countries.”

Of course, the left’s outraged cries of “We have only X years left to save the earth from global cooling/global warming/climate change/climate chaos” have been nearly 50 years of Groundhog Day as well.
