IT’S LIKE THE BOSS SAYS, AN ARMY OF DAVIDS: Who Goes There?!

DUDE, ALL IT TAKES IS A TAX ON REMITTANCES: Vicente Fox to Trump: When will you understand that I’m not paying for that f***ing wall? And you think there’s a political downside to taxing money sent from the U.S. to Mexico?

Of course, if you’re really mean you could require anyone transferring funds abroad to prove they’re in the United States legally. And I’m pretty sure that could be done by executive order under existing presidential powers.

JOHN HINDERAKER: Today’s Intelligence Report Proves Nothing.

The report constitutes, allegedly, the long-awaited proof that Russia (specifically, Vladimir Putin) meddled in the 2016 presidential election by, most notably, hacking into email accounts of the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton campaign manager John Podesta and distributing emails from those accounts to Wikileaks and others.

Does the report prove that claim? No, it merely states it. There is zero evidence in the report tying the Russian government (or anyone else) to the crude spearfishing effort or to the generic, out-of-date malware that invaded the DNC’s and Podesta’s email systems. Zero. Nada. Zilch.

While failing utterly to provide evidence (let alone persuasive evidence) that Russia intruded into the DNC’s email system, today’s intelligence report is not without interest. The most notable sections of the report are those that tie Russia’s government to a series of left-wing propaganda campaigns in the U.S. No member of the Occupy movement, for instance, can read the report without squirming. If true, it vindicates what we conservatives have been saying for decades, going back to the unilateral disarmament and nuclear freeze movements of the 1950s through 1980s.

Those didn’t constitute a national crisis, because they enhanced Democratic power rather than harming it.

Plus: “Remember the anti-Diebold campaign from the Democrats in 2012? That propaganda effort may have been inspired, and was supported, if today’s report is credible, by Russia’s government.”

And: “Russia has supported environmental groups to try to suppress fracking, which strikes at the heart of Russian economic strength. . . . I personally think that the anti-fracking movement is mostly a creation of the Russian government. That view is at least consistent with today’s report.”

GARY TAUBES HAS A NEW BOOK OUT CALLED The Case Against Sugar.

Here’s a review: “Taubes’s writing is both inflammatory and copiously researched.”

HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE UPDATE, LEGAL EDUCATION EDITION: Rethinking Faculty Hiring At Fourth-Tier Law Schools. “Rather than embracing their responsibility to educate practitioners, they are trying to look, act, and spend like elite schools. They operate as if they are research centers whose purpose is to produce academic scholarship, not places where future lawyers learn their trade. The research center model creates costs for fourth-tier law schools that ultimately fall on the students. Because most fourth-tier schools rely on tuition for operating expenses and capital budgets, students are paying more tuition and taking on more debt to support their professors’ scholarship. Students subsidize these activities but receive little benefit. They are further short-changed when they graduate and discover their professors taught them little about the actual practice of law.”

KNOWN WOLF SYNDROME STRIKES AGAIN at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, but you have to wade ten paragraphs into this article by CBS’s Miami affiliate to find it:

[Esteban Santiago-Ruiz, 26, the suspected gunman in the deadly airport attack] was born to Puerto Rican parents in New Jersey and recently became a father of a baby boy.

He also had military experience.

His aunt, according to nj.com, said after a tour of duty in Iraq, he “lost his mind” and was hospitalized at one point for mental health issues. He was given an honorable discharge from the Alaska National Guard for performance-related issues.

In November 2016, he walked into an FBI office in Anchorage claiming that he was being forced to fight for ISIS and was sent to a psychiatric hospital, officials revealed.

In 2011 or 2012, he was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations for child porn. Three weapons and a computer were seized, but there was not enough evidence to prosecute, according to law enforcement sources.

Santiago also has a record for minor traffic violations and was evicted in 2015 for not paying rent.

And because this administration is nothing without its incredible sense of timing: DHS Secretary: Obama Leaving Homeland Security ‘Much Stronger.’

IN CAMPUS “RAPE” CASES, COLLEGES LEARN THAT WOMEN CAN BE AGGRESSORS, TOO. Gosh, who could have figured that out?

THIS WILL NOT END WELL: The “genderless danshi” — genderless young men — of Japan. “In my generation, women were jealous of men because they could work and do whatever they wanted. But in the younger generation, men are jealous of women because they can express themselves through fashion.”
