BLOWBACK: Top UK Politician Who Branded Donald Trump ‘Racist and Sexist’ May Be Forced To Quit. “John Bercow, the Speaker of the House of Commons, has generated so much anger among some British politicians that he is in effect facing calls to quit after a Conservative MP, James Duddridge, tabled a parliamentary motion of no confidence in him. Such a move against a sitting Speaker is rare in British politics but Duddridge predicted Bercow could be ‘dead in the water’ within days because so many MPs believe he overstepped the mark.”

THE OPEN HATRED IS REVEALING: Katie Pavlich: Progressives, Nordstrom, And The Moronic Crusade Against Ivanka Trump.

The Ivanka Trump brand is a victim of the Grab Your Wallet campaign, organized by leftist agitators who send mobs to intimidate companies and those who dare buy their products. It’s one thing for boycotters to refuse patronage to certain businesses for any reason as individuals, but bullying others into doing the same is a different story. Not to mention, it won’t be Ivanka Trump who suffers most from this wrath but instead everyday people working for the brand.

In their efforts and haste to make a statement about President Trump by going after his daughter, leftists, and particularly feminists, are depleting their own cause for tolerance by attacking a champion for women with a proven track record of female empowerment. They’re also eroding their ideological path into the White House.

They’re horrible, nasty people and they’re revealing themselves as such.

By the way, you can buy Ivanka’s stuff at Amazon, if you’re so inclined.

UPDATE: From the comments: “Out of curiosity, I clicked through the Amazon link you provided. I took a gander at the clothing line offerings – and I promise I didn’t stare too long at the visually appealing models. Her line is really quite attractive. My wife agrees.”

CHUTZPAH: California Asks For $100B Despite Refusal To Enforce Immigration Laws.

California officials may not be happy with President Trump’s immigration orders, but they are eager to get a piece of the $1 trillion infrastructure plan that he has promised.

State officials proposed a list of infrastructure projects on Wednesday that would require $100 billion in federal funds. Some of the projects include improving roads, bridges, levees, ports and public transportation according to the Los Angeles Times.

Although California Democrats have been critical of President Trump’s immigration policies, state officials have praised his massive infrastructure proposal. Trump promised to repair roads and bridges across the country in his inaugural address and California Gov. Jerry Brown responded last month in his State of the State address: “And I say, ‘Amen to that, man. Amen to that, brother.’”

Now that’s a high-speed gravy train.

WELL, SOCIOLOGISTS. A Sociologist’s View Of Free Speech.

That Katherine Cross’ last post was “Why Punching Nazis Is Not Only Ethical, But Imperative” shouldn’t put you off of reading what this sociologist, transfeminist, has to say about free speech. After all, who better to explain the Constitution?

Cross’ post takes liberals to task for ruining free speech by supporting it as a principle rather than a weapon to be used for, and against, evil. . . .

The problem for us is that impressionable people will not be put off by the obvious social justice dog whistles, the devolvement into tropes and logical fallacies, the flagrant mischaracterizations. Hold on to your brain cells, because this is a ride that needs to be taken to appreciate why people will take to the streets, engage in violence, all the while believing that they are the fighters for justice. They mean well, but this is the tripe they’re fed. And they like it.

Punch back twice as hard, as our Lightworker former president said.

HERE’S MORE OF THAT MYTHICAL VOTING FRAUD: Urbana man charged with living, voting in U.S. illegally. “A Mexican national who has lived in Urbana since 2005, allegedly using a stolen identity, was arraigned Thursday on seven federal counts, including four related to voting by an illegal immigrant. . . . An affidavit accompanying the criminal complaint said that authorities were tipped off to Valencia-Sandoval’s real identity last August when the Piatt County sheriff’s office was informed that he had been living under Vasquez’s name for about 11 years. Valencia-Sandoval most recently has worked for an Urbana drywall contractor. Last month, Valencia-Sandoval was arrested at the U.S.-Mexico border in Laredo, Texas, when he attempted to re-enter the country with a Texas birth certificate and state of Illinois ID card bearing the name of Ramiro Guerrora Vasquez.”

INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY: Democrats Are Losing Their War With Trump:

Leaders in the Democratic Party probably should have thought twice before deciding to mount a scorched-earth campaign against President Trump. So far, they’ve failed to stop any of Trump’s picks, or gain public support for their cause. They have, however, succeeded in making themselves look unhinged.

As we write this, not a single Trump Cabinet pick has withdrawn or failed to secure confirmation, which puts him well ahead of President Obama, who was forced to withdraw several of his initial appointments due to scandals. That included Tom Daschle, Obama’s pick for Health and Human Services, who’d failed to pay taxes, and his Commerce pick, Bill Richardson, who was being investigated for allegedly doling out government contracts in exchange for campaign contributions while governor of New Mexico.

The best Democrats have been able to accomplish was to force Vice President Pence to cast the tiebreaking vote to confirm Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.

They’ve also failed to convince a majority — or even a plurality — of the public to oppose any of Trump’s executive orders, according to a Morning Consult/Politico poll, which asked about 11 of his most controversial ones.

In fact, the orders Democrats invested the most time and energy in attacking get the strongest public support.

Fully 55% approve of Trump’s executive order putting a temporary hold on visas and refugees from terror-prone countries. Only 38% disapprove it. (The IBD/TIPP poll found that 51% support Trump’s order on refugees.) The same share approves of Trump’s order to revoke funding for sanctuary cities. A majority (54%) also back Trump’s call to freeze all federal regulations.

This is a stunning failure on the part of Democrats to sway public opinion, despite having the full support of sign-wielding activists, several corporate executives, most celebrities and the entire mainstream press.

As for the press, their unrelenting campaign against Trump — and their determination to label just about everything he says as a lie — has backfired as well. An Emerson College poll found that the public views the Trump administration as more truthful than the news media, with 48% saying Trump is truthful, compared with only 39% who say the media are being truthful.

Reasonableness and self-control will take you a long way. If you possess them to begin with.

EIGHT YEARS AGO, ON INSTAPUNDIT:

JACOB SULLUM:

Just as the PATRIOT Act was a grab bag of legal changes that law enforcement and intelligence agencies had been seeking for years, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is a grab bag of expenditures that leftish Democrats have long wanted, repackaged for the crisis du jour. In both cases, instilling fear was the key to suspending skepticism and cutting off debate.

Yep. Here’s what I wrote on September 14, 2001:

I have no doubt, even as I write this, that longstanding bureaucratic wish lists are being transformed into “essential” anti-terrorist precautions. I also have no doubt that most of them won’t do any more good than the dumb “are you a terrorist?” questions immigration officials have been asking embarking passengers for years.

That’s how it worked out, and the main result was job security for bureaucrats. We’ll be lucky if this bill is only as bad as the Patriot Act . . . .

We weren’t that lucky.

THEY SHOULD BE PROSECUTED. Despite Berkeley Denials, Claims Surface of Student Rioters.

The “anti-fascist” group has come out to refute the claims made by University of California, Berkeley professor Robert Reich and the university’s administration and the police that only “outside agitators” participated in the riot last week at the university, claiming the rioters were indeed students of Berkeley.

A site called It’s Going Down, which provides a “platform for revolutionary anarchist, anti-fascist and autonomous anti-capitalist movements”, has published a first-person account about the violence that erupted at UC Berkeley after Milo Yiannopoulos’ speech was cancelled because of safety fears.

The author of the article dismisses the statements made by people claiming Berkeley students didn’t participate in the riots or they were hired by Yiannopoulos himself, writing “Of course there were students engaging in militant and combative tactics that night.”

Hardly a shocking claim.

The perpetrators of Postmodernism have gone beyond parody with their ridiculous posing, but it’s no longer harmless. From on high, the supplicants of the art world are receiving their orders: the culture must stop changing so the current power brokers remain in charge.

RESEARCH SHOCKER: Muslim study group surprised to find Alabamans don’t hate Muslims.

UPDATE: Indeed: “What Woldt discovered was not the prejudices of the small-town southern white American but instead the prejudices and stereotypes of contemporary leftist academia. Woldt expected to find prejudice not because she had already seen it but because her education indoctrinated her to expect it in others.”

This seems less surprising now.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO RAPE! (CONT’D): Woman busted for livestreaming rape of 4-year-old boy. “India Kirksey, 20, has been charged with felony rape, news station WCPO reported. She was arraigned Monday in court, and is being held on a $350,000 bond.”

LIKE MOST GRIFTERS, SID’S ALSO SURPRISINGLY GULLIBLE: Sidney Blumenthal taken in by Fred Trump campaign ads that appear to be fake.

A pair of racially charged videos that purport to be campaign ads created for Donald Trump’s father in 1969 appear to be well-produced hoaxes, according to a POLITICO review of YouTube records and those of the group that posted them.

Long-time Clinton confidant Sidney Blumenthal referenced the videos in a recent essay about Trump published in the London Review of Books:

“In 1969, Fred Trump plotted to run for mayor of New York against John Lindsay, a silk-stocking liberal Republican. The reason was simple: in the wake of a New York State Investigations Commission inquiry that uncovered Fred’s overbilling scams, the Lindsay administration had deprived him of a development deal at Coney Island. He made two test television commercials. One of them, called ‘Dope Man’, featured a drug-addled black youth wandering the streets. ‘With four more years of John Lindsay,’ the narrator intoned, ‘he will be coming to your neighbourhood soon.’ The ad flashed to the anxious faces of two well-dressed white women. ‘Vote for Fred Trump. He’s for us.’ The other commercial, ‘Real New Yorkers’, showed scenes of ‘real’ people from across the city, all of them white. Fred Trump, the narrator said, ‘is a real New Yorker too’. In the end he didn’t run, but his campaign themes were bequeathed to his son.”

But the videos were not actually created by Fred Trump’s campaign, because the campaign never existed. Terry Golway, a senior editor at POLITICO who has written extensively about the history of New York City politics, said that he cannot recall Fred Trump ever being mentioned as a potential candidate to run against Lindsay in 1969.

The London Review of Books has since removed that paragraph from Blumenthal’s essay and issued a correction: “A paragraph referring to Fred Trump’s campaign for mayor of New York, although it accurately reflected Trump’s racial attitudes and his hostility towards Mayor John Lindsay, has been removed because the campaign ads referred to appear to be clever fakes.”

The Washington Post’s Glenn Kessler, who writes the paper’s “Fact Check” column, also shared the videos on Twitter, before later deleting the tweets.
