WHY DO COURTS DEFER TO COPS?

USS THUNDERBOLT ON PATROL: The photo dates from 2015. On July 25 the Thunderbolt (PC-12) fired on Iranian speedboats manned by members of the Revolutionary Guard. The incident occurred at the northern end of the Persian Gulf, east of Kuwait. The Thunderbolt is a Cyclone-class patrol craft.

RELATED: The latest incident appears to be about 50 kilometers south of Iraq’s offshore oil ports. However, Iranian vessels have played similar “probe and disrupt” games in that area as well as in the Strait of Hormuz. This column dates from 2005. The column doesn’t mention it, but a USN Cyclone-class patrol craft was part of the surface force screening the Iraqi oil ports.

J. ROBERT SMITH: Fire Mueller.

Two words describe the Russian collusion accusations and investigation of President Trump: Sham and injustice. Robert Mueller, the special prosecutor, knows it. Rod Rosenstein, the Obama holdover Deputy Attorney General who appointed Mueller, knows it. Jeff Sessions, a decent man and attorney general who recused himself, knows it.

The Democrats know it. The left knows it. The mainstream media knows it. DC-owned and spine-free Republicans know it. Paul Ryan knows it.

Everybody knows it.

Well, yes. But this is about the Democrat-Media Complex trying to reestablish its dominance by taking down a President on the flimsiest of pretexts, and they do mean to take back what they’ve lost.

THIS WILL END WELL: Erdogan urges Muslims to ‘visit’ and ‘protect’ Jerusalem.

“From here I make a call to all Muslims. Anyone who has the opportunity should visit Jerusalem, Al-Aqsa mosque,” Erdogan said in Ankara. “Come, let’s all protect Jerusalem.”

He was referring to a site, known to Jews as the Temple Mount, which is central to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Israel installed metal detectors at entrances to the mosque compound, which also contains the Dome of the Rock, following an attack on July 14 that killed two Israeli police officers.

Palestinians viewed the security measures as an Israeli attempt to assert further control over the site, and large protests led to deadly clashes.

“They are attempting to take the mosque from Muslim hands on the pretext of fighting terrorism. There is no other explanation,” Erdogan said in a speech to ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) lawmakers in parliament.

Erdogan’s line seems to be that the only real terrorists are the imaginary ones conspiring against his regime.

WEIRD HOW LITTLE PRESS THIS HAS GOTTEN: House Dems’ IT Staffer busted for bank fraud while trying to leave U.S. for Pakistan.

Also: Wasserman Schultz aide arrested trying to leave the country. “A senior House Democratic aide confirmed Awan was still employed by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) as of Tuesday morning. But David Damron, a spokesman for Wasserman Schultz, later said that Awan was fired on Tuesday.” Why was he still on the payroll?

Flashback: House IT Aides Fear Suspects In Hill Breach Are Blackmailing Members With Their Own Data.

Congressional technology aides are baffled that data-theft allegations against four former House IT workers — who were banned from the congressional network — have largely been ignored, and they fear the integrity of sensitive high-level information.

Imran Awan and three relatives were colleagues until police banned them from computer networks at the House of Representatives after suspicion the brothers accessed congressional computers without permission.

Five Capitol Hill technology aides told The Daily Caller News Foundation’s Investigative Group that members of Congress have displayed an inexplicable and intense loyalty towards the suspects who police say victimized them. The baffled aides wonder if the suspects are blackmailing representatives based on the contents of their emails and files, to which they had full access.

“I don’t know what they have, but they have something on someone. It’s been months at this point” with no arrests, said Pat Sowers, who has managed IT for several House offices for 12 years. “Something is rotten in Denmark.”

A manager at a tech-services company that works with Democratic House offices said he approached congressional offices, offering their services at one-fourth the price of Awan and his Pakistani brothers, but the members declined. At the time, he couldn’t understand why his offers were rejected but now he suspects the Awans exerted some type of leverage over members.

“There’s no question about it: If I was accused of a tenth of what these guys are accused of, they’d take me out in handcuffs that same day, and I’d never work again,” he said.

This stinks.

WINNING? Trump Says Apple CEO Has Promised to Build Three Manufacturing Plants in U.S.

Mr. Trump, in a 45-minute interview with The Wall Street Journal, said Mr. Cook promised him Apple would build “three big plants, beautiful plants.” Mr. Trump didn’t elaborate on where those plants would be located or when they would be built.

“I spoke to [Mr. Cook], he’s promised me three big plants—big, big, big,” Mr. Trump said as part of a discussion about business-tax reform and business investment. “I said you know, Tim, unless you start building your plants in this country, I won’t consider my administration an economic success. He called me, and he said they are going forward.”

Apple declined to comment.

Apple almost always declines to comment on its business or product plans.

AGGRESSIVE MASCULINITY? THEY HAVEN’T HAD THAT SPIRIT THERE SINCE 1969. Princeton’s new ‘men’s engagement manager’ to combat aggressive masculinity on campus.

No, really, 1969 was about when my UT Law colleagues Tom Plank and Bob Lloyd left Princeton to go to Vietnam as Marines.

But seriously, this is prima facie evidence that Princeton is a hostile environment for male students on account of their sex: “The job posting implicitly refers to men as perpetrators and women as victims.” (As we know from the CDC itself, this is bullshit. Why does Princeton deny the science?)

For a modest consulting fee, I will happily tutor the Princetonians on how to treat male students with sensitivity and inclusion. Okay, not all that modest.

AWFUL: Jordan releases video showing US troops surrendering before deadly shooting.

A Jordanian military guard hunted down and ruthlessly killed three U.S. Special Forces soldiers as the men held their hands up in surrender, newly released video of the controversial November incident shows – contradicting the Jordan military’s original claim the American troops didn’t follow proper protocol when trying to enter the military base.

Security camera footage released Monday revealed details of the Nov. 4 shooting at King Faisal Air Base in southern Jordan where Staff Sgt. Matthew C. Lewellen, 27, Staff Sgt. Kevin J. McEnroe, 30, and Staff Sgt. James F. Moriarty, 27, were gunned down. The video had previously been shown to the families of the U.S. Army Green Berets.

Jordanian 1st Sgt. Marik al-Tuwayha is seen in the video firing at the four-vehicle U.S. convoy, continuing to pull the trigger even though the American soldiers desperately wave their arms in surrender during the six-minute gun battle. Two of the men get out of their vehicles and take cover behind a barrier – but al-Tuwayha keeps shooting.

Eventually, the Jordanian guard closes in on the men and guns them down.

Jordan has charged al-Tuwayha with premeditated murder.
