I LIKE THE SOUND OF THAT: GOP senator: Let’s cut Obama regulations ‘24/7.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) says the Senate should get to work immediately on repealing President Obama’s regulations.

“I said, ‘let’s not waste our precious resource.’ What we have is a limitation of time,” Johnson told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Wednesday, recounting his swearing-in the day before.

“So I said, ‘the United States Senate, at the appropriate time, for as long as we need to take advantage of the Congressional Review Act, we ought to go 24/7.’ ”

Johnson said he would volunteer to work overnight shifts on the Senate floor to chip away at Obama’s rules.

“It’s a big task. We have such an enormous web of over-regulation. Unwinding this will be difficult,” he said.

“[I’m] willing to pull a night shift. There are plenty of Americans out there working factory shifts. They’re working 24/7, working nights. I’ll preside at 3 o’clock, 4 o’clock if that’s what it’s going to take to overturn and repair the damage done by this over-regulation.”

President-elect Donald Trump vowed last month to gut the Obama administration’s regulations by chipping away at the number of rules on the books.

Chip, slash, blast, whatever.

HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE UPDATE, LEGAL EDUCATION EDITION: Law Schools Do Not Adequately Prepare Students For Legal Practice.

If studies of practicing lawyers and recent law graduates matter, it is clear that law schools are failing, even worse than in preparation for bar admission, to adequately prepare their students for legal practice.

A 2012 study by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) analyzed the job activities of newly-licensed lawyers to determine which knowledge domains and professional skills and abilities are most significant to their job. Acquisition of professional skills and abilities were deemed significantly more important to newly-licensed lawyers than legal knowledge — 25 skills and abilities were deemed more important than the highest rated knowledge domain. The percentages of lawyers using these 25 skills in their work (all rated between 89% to 100%) also were all greater than the percentage using the highest rated knowledge domain (86%). Yet these skills and abilities generally are not developed in traditional doctrinal law classes but in the experiential and first-year legal writing courses that, under the ABA standards, need only account for ten percent of a student’s legal education.

These important skills and abilities are also a small part of the bar exam, which purports to measure competence to begin the practice of law. Although the NCBE study was promoted as the basis for further development of the exam, since the study’s completion the portion of the exam devoted to testing skills remains the same (the 3-hour Multistate Performance Test). The NCBE’s only apparent response to the study’s dramatic finding that professional skills and abilities are what new lawyers need most for competent practice was to add civil procedure (the study’s highest rated knowledge domain) to the Multistate Bar Exam.

A report released this year by Educating Tomorrow’s Lawyers reinforces the disconnect between legal education’s overwhelming focus on legal knowledge and the competencies new lawyers need.

Honestly, two years of law school (one?) and an apprenticeship in a law office is looking better all the time.

HAVE A NICE HELPING OF THOUGHT-CRIME:  This anthology has me, John C. Wright, Nick Cole, Larry Correia and Brad Torgersen and a bunch of less-known but equally superversive people.  Oh, yeah, and an introduction by  Milo Yannopoulos.  Just buying it makes you a thought criminal.  Go for it.  Forbidden Thoughts.  2017’s answer to Dangerous Visions.

UNEXPECTEDLY: ABC, NBC Skip White Chicago Man Being Tortured Live on Facebook by Four African-Americans, while shouting “fuck Trump” and “fuck white people.” Equally unexpectedly, CBS’s coverage left out those last two details:

With ABC and NBC choosing to keep their audiences in the dark on this (at least until Thursday morning), the CBS Evening News was the lone network left to cover it. However, fill-in anchor Josh Elliott could only muster a 27-second news brief that only vaguely described the situation.

“Well, Chicago, which just had one of its most violent years ever, was the scene of another horrifying attack this week. A young man, described as law enforcement sources as developmentally challenged, was beaten, kicked, and tormented for half an hour,” Elliott explained.

He concluded by alluding to the assault being broadcasted on Facebook and how the victim “had been reported missing from his home in the suburbs” but “is now in the hospital and four suspects are in custody.”

CBS’s blackout on the details of this story, and their competitors’ embargo of the story itself, dovetails perfectly with Iowahawk’s observation that “Journalism is about covering important stories. With a pillow, until they stop moving,” and Jim Treacher’s line that in the 21st century, the profession “is all about deciding which facts the public shouldn’t know because they might reflect badly on Democrats.”

Related: “The Left’s insane hatred of Donald Trump has spun out of control, and there have been far too many instances of this sort of depraved violence,” John Hinderaker writes at Power Line. “I don’t want to hear another damn word about ‘hate crimes’ against minorities supposedly inspired by Donald Trump’s campaign or election, not unless they equal this level of depravity.”

THEY TOLD ME IF WE ELECTED TRUMP, RACIAL HATE CRIMES WOULD ABOUND. AND THEY WERE RIGHT! Chicago Police: 4 in custody after man tied up, tortured on Facebook Live.

Chicago investigators are questioning four African-Americans after a Facebook Live video shows a group of people torturing a white mentally disabled man while someone yelled “F*** Trump!” and “F*** white people!”

Chicago police were made aware of the video Tuesday afternoon. A young African American woman streamed the video live on Facebook showing at least four people holding the young white man hostage.

“The video is reprehensible,” said police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

“It’s sickening. You know it makes you wonder what would make individuals treat somebody like that,” Police Supt. Eddie Johnson added.

In the video, the victim is repeatedly kicked and hit, his scalp is cut, all while he is tied up with his mouth taped shut.

I blame the Democrats’ inflammatory racial rhetoric.

UPDATE: The video is available at Heavy.com.

Video Shows Black Teens Torturing Mentally Disabled White Kid. “The video itself lasts for 30 minutes, during which the victim—who is tied up, with his mouth taped shut—is abused in numerous ways. The perpetrators cut his hair with a knife until his head bleeds, flick cigarette ashes on him, and threaten him. They occasionally utter things like, “Fuck Donald Trump, fuck white people.” At one point, the video recorder—a black woman whose name is easily identifiable—suggests putting the victim out of his misery.”

In Rahm Emanuel’s Chicago.

And this remains evergreen, alas:

STAUNCH EPA OPPONENT TAKES HELM OF SENATE’S TOP OVERSIGHT PANEL:

[Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo.] said the committee’s “early” priorities will be:

  • Confirming Trump nominee Scott Pruitt as administrator of the EPA.
  • Pass “badly needed reforms to problematic EPA regulations issued over the past eight years.”
  • Finding ways to “better empower rural communities by addressing aging roads, bridges and dams.”

That last bullet point shouldn’t be a problem at all. While early in Obama’s first term, then-Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Interior Deanna Archuleta (D-NM) promised that at least during the Obama administration, “You will never see another federal dam,” dam building still enjoys wide support on both sides of the aisle – just ask NBC’s Rachel Maddow (and presumably her commercial’s director as well, Maddow’s fellow archleftist, Spike Lee):

A REAL “UP YOURS” TO TRUMP: Obama taps Harvard for new “War on Men” Czar.

College men, meet Mia Karvonides, your new worst nightmare.

Currently she’s the head of the “Title IX and Gender Equity” office at Harvard University, charged with ensuring there is no safe space for men anywhere at Harvard.

For example, recently Ms. Karvonides helped persecute the members of the men’s soccer team for their “thought crime” of (privately, in a document circulated only amongst themselves) evaluating members of the women’s soccer team based on their sex appeal. (For critical takes on the persecution, which included the cancellation of the rest of the men’s soccer season based on events that had occurred years earlier, see Breitbart, Legal Insurrection, College Fix, Daily Caller, Total Frat Move, and Reddit.)

Intent on taking this “War on Men” national, President Obama and his minions have engineered the appointment of Ms. Karvonides, effective Jan. 17, to serve as the federal government’s top official in charge of enforcing Title IX against all colleges and universities, according to a Harvard Crimson story broken about 5 p.m. (Eastern time) today: “Title IX Officer Mia Karvonides to Leave Harvard.”

Under the direction of Ms. Karvonides soon, in the immortal words of David Burge, all college students born with the shame of having a penis — not just those at Harvard — may have new hope of being reeducated not to be a man.

Trump should just fire her and let her fight him in court if she wants. As one of my law professors said about the big case on Presidential removal power, Humphrey’s Executor, the name of the case tells the real story.
