LATE THEM EAT HARE: Venezuela’s ‘Plan Rabbit’ encounters ‘cultural problem.’

The president urged crisis-hit Venezuelans to breed rabbits and eat them as a source of animal protein.

Venezuela is facing record levels of child malnutrition amid persistent food shortages.

An opposition politician said the plan was “a bad joke”.

President Maduro revealed the idea on state television, saying that “for animal protein, which is such an important issue, a ‘rabbit plan’ has been approved because rabbits also breed like rabbits”.

The leader did say that the “rabbit plan” had not got off to a good start and the minister of urban agriculture, Freddy Bernal, said there had been a “cultural problem”.

President Maduro said rabbit kittens had been handed to 15 communities as part of a pilot project by Mr Bernal.

“When he came back, to his surprise he found people had put little bows on their rabbits and were keeping them as pets, it was an early setback to Plan Rabbit.”

“A lot of people gave names to the rabbits, they took them to bed,” Mr Bernal said.

The minister urged Venezuelans to start seeing rabbits “from the point of view of the economic war”.

You can’t make up incredible stories like this one — and in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, you don’t have to, because they’re the only thing not in short supply.

MICKEY KAUS: Don’t buy all the PR-style hooey about ‘dreamers.’

Compared with the general population, dreamers are not especially highly skilled. A recent survey for several pro-dreamer groups, with participants recruited by those groups, found that while most dreamers are not in school, the vast majority work. But their median hourly wage is only $15.34, meaning that many are competing with hard-pressed lower-skilled Americans.

The dreamers you read about have typically been carefully selected for their appeal. They’re valedictorians. They’re first responders. They’re curing diseases. They root for the Yankees. They want to serve in the Army. If dreamers are the poster children for the much larger undocumented population, these are the poster children for the poster children.

Still, taking the dreamers as a whole, not just the dreamiest of them, they represent an appealing group of would-be citizens. So why not show compassion and legalize them? Because, as is often the case, the pursuit of pure compassion comes with harmful side effects.

Plus:

Under “chain migration” rules established in 1965 — ironically as a sop to conservatives, who foolishly thought that they’d boost European inflows — new citizens can bring in their siblings and adult children, who can bring in their siblings and in-laws, until whole villages have moved to the United States. That means today’s 690,000 dreamers would quickly become millions of newcomers, who may well be low-skilled and who would almost certainly include the parents who brought them — the ones who, in theory, are at fault.

Mickey was an immigration hawk before it was cool.

JOURNALISM: The Russians Were Coming! “Scott Shane of the Charity Case NY Times covers the breaking news from Twin Falls Idaho, where Russian interference led to a four person rally in a state Trump won by 31%.”

The real question is, why is Mark Zuckerberg colluding with the Russians to influence elections? I think we need Senate hearings ASAP!

ART OF THE DEAL: Democrats say they have deal with Trump on young immigrants. Well, the last guy to make a deal with Chuck Schumer on immigration was Marco Rubio, and that deal is why Trump is President and not Rubio. Did Trump make a better deal? We’ll see.

FLASHBACK: Hillary Clinton Doesn’t Need White Men. Turns out, she kinda did. And articles like this both helped to feed her complacency, and reminded those white men what a Hillary presidency would probably be like.

SAVAGE: Of Course Hillary Clinton Identifies with Cersei Lannister. They Are the Same Person. “What Happened” invites readers to make an unflattering comparison with the mad queen of Westeros.

What’s the difference between Game of Thrones character Cersei Lannister and failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton? One is an entitled narcissist who quietly supported her lecherous husband (whom she clearly loathed) when it was politically convenient, then insisted it was her turn to rule (even though it wasn’t), chose boot-lickers, ass-kissers, and elitist bankers as her advisors while alienating more competent and better-liked people who might have helped her, exacted petty vengeance on imagined enemies, escaped justice and the judgment of the people by destroying her main rival—the charismatic, income-inequality obsessed populist—with an explosive cheat, and was left confused why so many people in her country would rather be ruled by a complete political unknown who tells it like it is.

The other fucks her twin brother.

Ouch.

INCUMBENT CHARLOTTE MAYOR SUFFERS PRIMARY DEFEAT: “Roberts faced the headwinds of controversial decisions a year ago in the violent and volatile aftermath of the fatal police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott, a 43-year-old black man. The officer who shot Scott was not charged or disciplined in what police and the district attorney later determined was a lawful response to the situation. One person died during protests uptown that lasted for a couple of weeks after Scott’s death. Protesters shattered windows in uptown hotels and office buildings and looted the Charlotte Hornets’ arena team store while confronting police in riot gear. . . . Some Democrats were also frustrated by Roberts’ defiant backing of an LGBT anti-discrimination ordinance that later led to the passage of House Bill 2 in the state legislature. HB2 put North Carolina and Charlotte in the national news for a year and created boycotts as the state was described as discriminatory and backward by a broad alliance of critics who considered the law unfair toward LGBT residents and visitors.”

“PRO-CHOICE’ VS. “PRO-ABORTION”: The Daily Signal ran an interesting item that ought to have libertarians (and the few honest liberals left) asking themselves what “choice” means.

I did not know that the “abortion” pill could be neutralized if a woman changes her mind. According to The Daily Signal, in late July California’s Board of Registered Nursing informed pro-life Heartbeat International that it could award continuing education units for nurses who demonstrate a grasp for the science and patient care involved in counteracting the effects of a chemical abortion. But suddenly:

Acting at the behest of abortion activists in the state Legislature and online media, the board—which is overseen by California’s Department of Consumer Affairs—reversed its decision from just a month prior, demanding that Heartbeat International “cease and desist” educating nurses on a breakthrough medical intervention that can allow a woman to halt a chemical abortion.

Consent is only as good as the transparency of the information provided to the person making the choice. While I consider myself “pro-choice” (with limitations) for libertarian reasons, for abortion to be a truly free choice women must be able to hear all their options. Restricting that information is not “pro-choice,” it’s “pro-abortion.”

Minor correction: “morning-after” changed to “abortion pill” after legions of hysterical leftists who believe that abortion is a “right” that should be subsidized by the public fisc messaged me. FWIW, the thrust of the posting (how can it be “choice” if there is no transparency regarding options) remains unchanged.
