OBAMA’S LEGACY: A Chilling Threat of Political Violence in Portland. I keep telling lefties that they don’t want to open that box, and they keep not listening.

Hypothesis: Trump and Sessions are deliberately letting this get out of hand until all decent people will support them when they engage in mass arrests of lefty activists. And given the alternatives, that’s probably the outcome lefty activists should hope for. . . .

HUH. I WONDER WHAT’S DIFFERENT ABOUT THEM AND THE COUNTIES THAT HAD A LOT OF MURDERS? Murders in US very concentrated: 54% of US counties in 2014 had zero murders, 2% of counties have 51% of the murders. But that’s not the only mystery: “When you look at individual counties with a high number of murders, you find large areas with few murders. Take Los Angeles County, with 526 murders in 2014, the most of any county in the US. The county has virtually no murders in the northwestern part of the county. There was only one murder each in Beverly Hills, Hawthorne, and Van Nuys. Clearly, different parts of the county face very different risks of murder.”

JOE BIDEN OFFERS COLLEGE MEN ADVICE ON HOW TO TREAT WOMEN.

Flashback: Biden Swims Naked, Upsetting Female Secret Service Agents:

Agents say that, whether at the vice president’s residence or at his home in Delaware, Biden has a habit of swimming in his pool nude,” Kessler writes in the book – due for release Aug. 5.

“Female Secret Service agents find that offensive,” he writes.

“Biden likes to be revered as everyday Joe,” an unnamed agent told Kessler. “But the reality is no agents want to go on his detail because Biden makes agents’ lives so tough.”

ROSS DOUTHAT: Trump’s First 100 Days: It Could Be Worse. This piece misses most of what’s actually going on, but it’s still telling that this is the take from the NYT’s house conservative. We’re basically on the trajectory that Scott Adams projected months ago: Trump’s Hitler, Trump’s not Hitler but he’s incompetent, Trump’s competent but I don’t like what he’s doing. . . .

FROM PROF. JACOBSON, IN THE CORNELL SUN: Prof. David Collum, Chemistry, is owed an apology and a retraction:

On April 20, 2017, The Cornell Daily Sun published a lengthy letter to the editor from seven graduate students: Kevin Hines, Robert Escriva, Ethan Susca, Mel White, Rose Agger, Kolbeinn Karlsson and Jane Glaubman.

The letter impugned the integrity of Cornell world-renowned Prof. David B. Collum, chemistry in the most serious ways, accusing him of being a rape apologist, misogynistic and unfit for the position of department chair. Several of the letter writers were graduate student union supporters active in the union vote drive. Prof. Collum has been widely criticized by union supporters for opposing the union drive. The letter appears to be payback.

In publishing that letter, The Sun gave a platform to a smear campaign against Prof. Collum in a manner that did not allow Prof. Collum to respond or provide for a verification of the context of the supposed evidence. I have researched several of the key tweets and quotes attributed to Prof. Collum in the letter, and it is clear that the way in which they are presented in the letter is misleading at best, and, in some cases, presents a false portrayal.

As somebody once pointed out, SJWs always lie. I’m glad he used all their names, so that they’ll show up in search engines. I can’t imagine that their role in launching false attacks against a famed chemistry professor will help their job prospects. Nor should it.

JOHN MOORE: The EMP Threat From North Korea Is Real, and Terrifying.

An EMP disaster from a high-altitude blast seems like science fiction: There is a silent flash high in the sky, and everything using electricity just … stops. Cars stop, power goes out, the Internet dies, satellites quit working, landline and mobile phone systems go out, and computers are destroyed. In a moment, we are back to 1850, as was dramatized in William Forstchen’s 2009 novel One Second After. . . .

To nuke one of our cities, the North needs to master ICBM construction, nuclear weapons miniaturization, precision long-range guidance technology, atmospheric re-entry vehicles, and fusing to trigger detonation at the right time after the hazardous re-entry. In contrast, an EMP attack requires only a small, light nuclear weapon and the ability to launch it as a satellite. Once over the U.S., it is detonated.

Already, two satellites launched by North Korea cross the U.S. every day.

If not North Korea, someone else perhaps. If you’re worried, you’ll want a generator, an inverter, a solar battery charger — and plenty of storable food, water, and water filtration.
