I WAS TALKING ABOUT THE COLD WAR TO MY SON: And I found out that I simply couldn’t communicate how the fear of the bomb permeated everything in my youth, even though we didn’t talk about it.  Even stuff like this, Scary Cold War Stuff can’t make the younger people understand how serious it felt.  You see, all our entertainers and newsmedia were convinced we couldn’t escape getting hit.  (Which is why they advocated unilateral surrender.  Ours.)

TO CELEBRATE WINNING 1,237, TRUMP EATS MCDONALD’S, HAS DIET COKE: “This photo was not just funny because Trump is eating McDonalds — it’s also rather ironic because The Donald is on record mocking Diet Coke. In October 2012, he tweeted, ‘I have never seen a thin person drinking Diet Coke.’ Is he mocking himself, as he celebrates his nomination victory?”

Even before the dawn of the TV era, the candidate with the better sense of humor has tended to win – FDR versus Hoover, Truman versus Dewey, Ike versus Stevenson, JFK versus Nixon, Reagan versus Carter, etc.

And now it’s Trump versus Margaret Dumont*. Well, the next several months won’t lack for entertainment, no matter what the outcome.

* Yes I know, that’s an insult to the real Margaret Dumont, who actually was quite funny as the honorary Fifth Marx Brother, unlike the scolding Dowager of Chappaqua.

AS USUAL, THE SOCIAL-JUSTICE STUDENTS ARE PAWNS OF THE FACULTY: Leaked Document Shows Harvard Students, Profs Planning To Make School Even More Liberal. “Leaked notes from an alleged meeting between Harvard Law School (HLS) professors and student activists shows them planning how to coordinate their efforts in order to take the school in a more institutionally left-wing direction. The notes also suggest that at least one professor at Harvard may be concealing the full extent of his liberal views in order to be appointed to positions where he can shape the university’s politics more decisively.”

MORE LIKE THIS, PLEASE: Former House of Commons sergeant-at-arms grabs protester at Dublin commemoration.

Canada’s ambassador to Ireland, best known for his role in shooting dead an armed assailant inside the Parliament buildings in 2014, has once again stepped into an apparent security breach.

Kevin Vickers, the former House of Commons sergeant-at-arms, tackled a protester Thursday in Dublin during a ceremony to remember British soldiers killed in the 1916 Easter Rising.

The Global Affairs Department confirmed the incident, stating that Vickers “intercepted a protester who ran up to the podium” during the commemoration.

Security officers arrested the protester moments later.

A Global Affairs spokesman says Vickers was not injured in the incident.

Vickers, a former RCMP officer, was among those who responded to the October 2014 assault on Parliament Hill by rifle-wielding Michael Zehaf Bibeau, who died in a hail of bullets — including those fired by the sergeant-at-arms from his revolver at close range.

I love the photo.

NEWS YOU CAN USE: Dear Sh*tty Wives: This Is Your Wake-Up Call. “If you constantly berate your husband, find it a chore to have sex with him, and cause fights to get attention, then this advice is for you.”

But will women like that listen?

DEAR YAHOO, FIRE KATIE COURIC: “The case is clear. Katie Couric, a person Yahoo employs to be the face of its news division, was caught in a grotesque deception. Then, when she was publicly exposed, rather than apologizing, she doubled down — defending the choice to cast innocent Americans as ignorant rubes rather than allowing them to speak for themselves. She has lost her credibility. Any news organization that continues to employ her loses its credibility as well.”

Couric no doubt hopes to cease slumming in the Yahoo ghetto and return to broadcast or cable TV. Perhaps she thought this documentary was her ticket out. But any network hiring her has to know she’s now damaged goods and viewers will judge the product of any channel who hires her accordingly.
