NONSENSE, THEY CAN’T BE RACIST, THEY’RE NOT WHITE: Racist laundry detergent ad in China sparks outrage on social media. “The advertisement for Qiaobi washing powder circulating various online platforms on Friday shows a black man whistling at a young Chinese woman. Acting as if she’s about to kiss him, she puts a detergent capsule in his mouth instead, shoves him into her washing machine, and sits on the lid while the machine gets to work. When he reemerges, he’s no longer black, but a ‘clean’ Chinese man. . . . The commercial, reportedly shown at Chinese cinemas earlier in May, is a spin-off from an Italian advertisement, which shows a white man being forced into a washing machine and a black man emerging out of it, followed by the slogan, ‘Colored is better.'”

BRIAN WILLIAMS: WE USED NUCLEAR WEAPONS AGAINST JAPAN ‘IN ANGER:’

MSNBC’s Brian Williams said the U.S. used nuclear weapons against Japan “in anger” Friday, an expression sure to upset those who recognize the decision potentially saved hundreds of thousands of lives by bringing about a swift end to World War II.

And thus Williams comes full circle; recall a decade ago when he posited not only that the Founding Fathers were terrorists but that they also bore similarities to the Iranian revolutionaries:

Many Americans woke up to a curious story this morning: several of the former Iran Hostages have decided there is a strong resemblance between Iran’s new president and one of their captors more than 25 years ago. The White House and most official branches of government are ducking any substantive comment on this story, and photo analysis is going on at this and other news organizations. It is a story that will be at or near the top of our broadcast and certainly made for a robust debate in our afternoon editorial meeting, when several of us raised the point (I’ll leave it to others to decide germaneness) that several U.S. presidents were at minimum revolutionaries, and probably were considered terrorists of their time by the Crown in England.

Back in February of last year, when Williams’ career as a newsreader was in jeopardy after a military utterance too far, I created a Photoshop of Williams as MacArthur. Like Big Mac himself, no wonder he’s still arguing with Truman’s decisions!

OUR DYSFUNCTIONAL HIGHER-EDUCATION ENVIRONMENT: The Perils Of Writing A Provocative Email At Yale. “People with perfectly mainstream opinions shared them with a journalist but declined to put their name behind them due to a campus climate where anyone could conceivably be the next object of ire and public shaming. Insufficient tolerance for disagreement is undermining campus discourse.”

Proper response to angry Yale students: You’re a joke. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Because, you know, they are. And they should be. And were I the Christakises, I’d be suing the student organizers personally, as an example to others. The culture of impunity must end.

THE FALL OF SALON.COM:

The more stinging critique is about the quality of what Salon publishes – and Goodman’s pieces in particular have reignited lamentations about the site’s downward spiral. Walsh and Miller have been outspoken on Twitter about some of the stories from the site, as have many others. Two guys even created a vicious parody account, @salondotcom, to mock Salon’s increasingly strident brand of leftism, with fake tweets like “Ten signs your cat might be racist” and “Should GMOs come with trigger warnings?”

“It’s really sad,” Talking Points Memo publisher Josh Marshall tweeted last month. “These Salon headlines are like the bastard child of World Net Daily and the LaRouche Times … In retrospect it’s scary to think that Salon was maybe always just one @joanwalsh or @KerryLauerman away from derp oblivion.”

Well, that’s one way to put it, considering that the words Joan Walsh and “derp” go together rather well.

Fiscal overindulgence aside, the content of Salon over the years is a cautionary tale of an ideology that, to borrow from Woody Allen’s shark analogy in Annie Hall, believes it must be constantly moving further leftward to survive. While “Progressivism” may be the dominant ideology in America, as the headlines from the above-mentioned Salon parody account illustrate, intellectually, it’s a dead shark.

DOES OBAMA THINK TRUMAN WAS A WAR CRIMINAL? Listen to Bill Whittle on Hiroshima.

My comment: All this talk about the Hiroshima bombing being a war crime is just virtue-signaling, mostly by people who would regretfully acknowledge the unfortunate necessity of obliterating, say, Texas. . . .

HERE IT COMES: The superbug that doctors have been dreading just reached the U.S.

The antibiotic-resistant strain was found last month in the urine of a 49-year-old Pennsylvania woman. Defense Department researchers determined that she carried a strain of E. coli resistant to the antibiotic colistin, according to a study published Thursday in Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, a publication of the American Society for Microbiology. The authors wrote that the discovery “heralds the emergence of a truly pan-drug resistant bacteria.”

Colistin is the antibiotic of last resort for particularly dangerous types of superbugs, including a family of bacteria known as CRE, which health officials have dubbed “nightmare bacteria.” In some instances, these superbugs kill up to 50 percent of patients who become infected. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has called CRE among the country’s most urgent public health threats.

They’re calling it “the end of the road” for antibiotics.
