DOWNFALL: “[Hillary’s] awful week of news–culminating in [yesterday’s] earth-shattering disclosures from the FBI–could have a much more significant impact on the GOP’s down-ballot races, many of which were already tighter contests than the presidential race. Republican incumbents could benefit disproportionately from swing voters turning against Clinton, even if these new details do not fatally undermine her electoral prospects. If, however, Clinton survives and is inaugurated, she will face a hostile political climate like no newly elected president has faced in decades. Whereas Trump could rebrand the GOP as a progressive and xenophobic party with little appeal to the upcoming generation, Clinton could have as deleterious an effect on the Democratic Party’s brand over the course of four years of scandals, investigations, and tawdry allegations. Perhaps Democrats should be cautious about what they wish for.”

THE HILL: Anger, Disbelief In Clinton Camp. “This has turned into malpractice. It’s an unforced error at this point. I have no idea what Comey is up to but the idea this email issue is popping back up again is outrageous. It never should have occurred in the first place. Someone somewhere should have told her no. And they didn’t and now we’re all paying the price.”

Plus: “Another ally called the campaign’s mood something akin to ‘paralysis,’ and blamed Weiner’s behavior for railroading the campaign. One strategist said the developments would further cement the notion that Clinton has something to hide.” Ya think?

WELL, YES: Camille Paglia: Hillary Clinton is ‘a disaster.’

Outspoken social critic and professor Camille Paglia once liked Hillary Clinton’s personality, but that is no longer the case.

Now, Paglia finds Clinton’s “accomplishments” to be anything but, and will not vote for her.

“It’s an outrage how she’s played the gender card,” Paglia told the Spectator. “She is a woman without accomplishment. ‘I sponsored or co-sponsored 400 bills.’ Oh really? These were bills to rename bridges and so forth. And the things she has accomplished have been like the destabilization of North Africa, causing refugees to flood into Italy …”

The woman is a disaster!” she added.

Paglia also said that women haven’t been running for president not because of some kind of glass ceiling, but because they’re just not drawn to the rigors of what that kind of campaign takes. Paglia added that in 2012, she voted for Green Party candidate Jill Stein.

“So I have already voted for a woman president,” she said.

This is not the first time Paglia has been critical of Clinton. Earlier this year, Paglia knocked Clinton’s “blame-men-first” brand of feminism that “defines women as perpetual victims requiring government protections.”

Paglia defined her own feminism to the Spectator as “street-smart Amazon feminism,” which is a much more appealing term than current modern outrage feminism.

True.

CHANGE: Supreme Court Decides to Enter Transgender Bathroom Debate.

The Supreme Court agreed Friday to step into the heated social debate about whether schools should allow transgender students to use the bathroom of their choice — but the justices could stop short of settling the issue nationwide.

The justices announced that they will hear an appeal in the case of Gavin Grimm, a transgender boy who challenged a Virginia school district policy that prevented him from using the boys’ restroom at his high school.

The Supreme Court’s move puts on hold a lower court order that sided with lawyers for Grimm and the Obama administration and struck down the Gloucester County School Board policy. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit ruled in April that the school board’s policy violates Title IX of a 1974 federal anti-discrimination law.

Hmm.

FUNNY, THEY LOVED HIM NOT LONG AGO: The Hill: Furious liberals lash out at Comey.

Democrats are lashing out at FBI director James Comey for opening a new review into Hillary Clinton’s emails just days before the presidential election, accusing him of malfeasance that threatens to hand the White House to Donald Trump.

Comey on Friday sent a brief letter to Congress stating that the FBI was investigating newly found messages that appeared to be related to its investigation into how Clinton handled classified material as secretary of State.

That bombshell report, coming 11 days before the election, provoked prominent liberals like former Labor Secretary Robert Reich to question the timing of the release and to fume over the lack of details.

Oh, there’ll be details.

UPDATE: Benjamin Wittes: What Comey’s Letter Does and Doesn’t Mean.

TOP LEGAL SCHOLARS WEIGH IN ON impeaching a President immediately after he/she takes office.

You have to be a “civil officer of the United States” to be impeached. Trump’s never been one and won’t be until he’s sworn in, so he couldn’t be impeached before January 20, 2017.

Hillary was Secretary of State. Could she be impeached now for her conduct in that office? Probably, though not certainly. Could she be barred from holding any further office if convicted? Yes. Will this happen? Nope.

UPDATE: Many in the comments are missing the fun in this — the “top legal scholars” were talking about impeaching Trump. Now, on the other hand. . . .

CBS: Poll: National Anthem Protests Leading Cause For NFL Ratings Drop. “The NFL has long been one of the country’s most popular forms of escapist entertainment, and the injection of social and political issues into the broadcasts has turned a number of fans away.”

Unexpectedly!

PAUL MIRENGOFF: Observations on the FBI’s Clinton email “reentry.” “There are three related reasons why Comey would nonetheless reopen the investigation now.”

Related: Paging Joe Klein. “As of this afternoon, this crazy election cycle has gone from a reality TV show to a Joe Klein roman a clef novel that no one would believe. Like the Bill Clinton scandals of the 1990s, if you walked into a Hollywood studio pitching this plot, they’d throw you out the door. One of the interesting things that happened when the FBI news came out earlier today is that the financial markets suddenly lurched.”

THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN IS hitting the Hillary-corruption angle hard. Well, it’s easy!

Plus, a reader emails: “You need to put out there the real scandal: how did FBI not seize laptop used by Clinton’s top aide until now? Suggests DOJ obstructionism/hamstringing.” Yes, yes it does.

2015 FLASHBACK: Donald Trump defiant after calling Anthony Weiner a ‘perv.’

Donald Trump on Saturday stood by his charge that disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner is a “perv,” adding that he “obviously is psychologically disturbed” and alleging that his wife, Huma Abedin, a top adviser to Hillary Clinton, is passing sensitive information to him.

Well, that held up pretty well, as it turns out. . . .
